Checking In: Has it really been that long?
I’ve only just looked at my last blog entry and realized that it was posted on May 1st – nearly three months ago!
I’ve had quite a lot going on this year, which at least partially excuses my lack of attention to the public face of “Jamie Sullivan”: I’ve gotten married, planned two (!) weddings, and moved countries.
Here’s a photo from my wedding back in the spring (I’m all gussied up!):
However, I’ve tried not to let that distract me from my writing too much. I’ve put my latest novel on the back...

The Only Way: News Roundup
First, congratulations to Rose, who won last week’s giveaway of The Only Way! And thanks to everyone who entered.
To accompany the sketch I did of Ruby, I did another very quick sketch, this time of Hart:
Hart is a tomboy. She’s never been really feminine the way some of her peers are, but that doesn’t mean she’s all attitude and swagger. Hart’s main driving motivation is her desire to care for and protect her family.
The Only Way was just reviewed by Lynne from Frances and Lynne, and she had so...

The Only Way Giveaway
The Only Way comes out in exactly one week (March 19th).
Summary:
In the Gutter, there are only two ways for a girl to earn a living—among the trash or on her back. When Hart decides that’s not good enough for her, she takes on the high stakes world of no-holds-barred fighting. There’s just one problem: women aren’t allowed in the ring.
Hair cut short and dressed in her father’s old clothes, Hart ventures into the Alley and the world of arena fighting. There she meets Ruby, the daughter of the A...

The Only Way – Available for Preorder!
The Only Way comes out in two weeks – and is currently 15% off for preorders!
An excerpt:
“It’s late.”
Hart watched her mother pace the small room, nervous eyes fixed on the door. The other kids were tucked into the bed in the corner, long asleep. The church bells in the Alley had stopped chiming at midnight, so it was hard to say how late it really was.
It felt late, though.
“It’s probably just running long,” she told her mother, trying to sound more confident than she felt. “Or maybe he’s gone c...

Grammar!
I’m in the middle of the VERY LAST, ABSOLUTELY FINAL (hopefully) edits ofThe Only Way. The galleys are in much better shape than some of my previous works – I did a better job both before submitting and on previous edits cleaning the manuscript up.
But, of course, I still found some errors. Particularly, I noticed I have a problem with dangling or misplaced modifiers.
This error is defined as any modifier – a descriptive word, phrase, or clause – that appears to be modifying the wrong part of t...

How To Convince Editors You’re Nuts
When I submitted the manuscript for The Only Way, it was the first time I ever did so without having another set of eyes look over the piece first. Naturally, this meant I was even more nervous than usual. I hadn’t had any of the normal feedback about characterization, pacing, or plot. I had gone over the manuscript many times, but that didn’t mean I wasn’t missing something major.
When The Only Way was accepted by Less Than Three Press, I was relieved, but still sure that I would have some ma...

Giveaway!
I’ve just received author copies of Fairytales Slashed: Volume 5 – and now I want to give one to you!
This is an awesome, HUGE book, with seven new takes on classic fairy tales:
Part of Your World (Jamie Sullivan) is the tale of a man adrift, his dreams of music all but lost, and his only solace found in taking his boat out to sea for a few hours. Deep beneath the water, the lonely Ren looks up at the surface he is not supposed to breach …
In Beast (Jamie Sullivan), the very last thing Beau expe...
