CANARY Blurb Celebration (Win and signed ARC of CANARY)

CANARY has gotten some great author blurbs lately.  If you haven't seen them yet, here's what has been said:

"A searing and tender portrait of the complexities of high school friendships, dating and privilege. CANARY is a testament to the power of hard-won truths."
~Daisy Whitney, author of THE MOCKINGBIRDS and WHEN YOU WERE HERE

"The subtle way Rachele Alpine addresses love, loss, popularity, and friendship makes this book a realistic and arresting read. For anyone who ever struggled with frenemies and fitting in, CANARY is an important addition to contemporary YA discussions."
~Jennifer Brown, author of THE HATE LIST

"Rachele Alpine's CANARY sings the truth about what happens when we put our high school heroes on a pedestal and give them the power to act like villains."
~Erin Jade Lange, author of BUTTER

"Alpine’s Canary is a deeply-felt, poignant account of someone trying to find strength in a world that has hurled its worst at her. Alpine has created a compelling narrator in Kate and the challenges she must face are both realistic and heartbreaking."
~Colleen Clayton, author of WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

I'm ecstatic that CANARY has gotten so much love from some of my favorite authors.  It really is exciting when someone whose writing you admire also likes your own!

I think this calls for a contest!

Here is what is up for grabs:

1 signed ARC of CANARY (woo-hoo!)

2 books of your choice from the authors who have blurbed CANARY

The contest runs until midnight on February 5...good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

CANARY Blurb: Daisy Whitney, Author of THE MOCKINGBIRDS

Sorry for the blurb overload these last few weeks, but Canary is getting lots of author love (yay!).  I have one more blurb to announce, and this one made me scream out loud and do a happy dance around my living.

Are you ready for it???

Daisy Whitney blurbed Canary!

I love her book The Mockingbirds (and its companion The Rivals).  The Mockingbirds is one of my go to books when I'm trying to hook my students to reading, and it has a lot of similar themes as Canary.  I am just beside myself that she's endorsed it.

Here's what Daisy said about it:

"A searing and tender portrait of the complexities of high school friendships, dating and privilege. CANARY is a testament to the power of hard-won truths."

~Daisy Whitney, author of The Mockingbirds and When You Were Here

Pretty snazzy, huh?!?

I am so excited about this and hope you are too!  Make sure to check back here on Monday.  I am giving a away a prize pack that will include an ARC of Canary and books from all the authors who have provided blurbs so far (Daisy Whitney, Jennifer Brown, Erin Jade Lange, and Colleen Clayton)!

*And make sure the read the description for her forthcoming book WHEN YOU WERE HERE.  I am dying to read this, especially since I traveled through Japan seven years ago and am fascinated by the culture.

The ARCs Are Here! The ARCs Are Here!

If you follow my Facebook page, you've probably seen me post a few pictures of my CANARY advance copies.

I apologize if it's a lot of ARC overload, but I just can't stop staring at them!  They are amazing and beautiful, and I'm loving that name on the spine that looks an awful lot like mine!

Check back at my blog on Monday, because I'm planning to announce a contest of awesome proportions.  A giveaway featuring books from all of the authors who have blurbed CANARY so far and an advance copy of CANARY (because you all want one of them, right!?).

In preparation of the big contest, my advance copies have been getting ready for their big moment:
Chilling on my bookshelf with all the other books. Spending some quality time with Radley (who does not look impressed!) Working out, so they look good for you. Getting ready for a relaxing bubble bath. Watching one of their favorite shows (hey, don't judge!). Getting some beauty sleep. So check back on Monday...maybe one of these copies will end up in your mailbox!

CANARY Blurb: Jennifer Brown, author of THE HATE LIST

I feel like I've been writing a lot of posts lately about CANARY blurbs, but I'm not complaining!  And hopefully you aren't too!  I can't wait until all of you finally get to read it!

CANARY received another wonderful blurb from Jennifer Brown, author of THE HATE LIST, BITTER END, PERFECT ESCAPE, and the forthcoming THOUSAND WORDS.  My students love Jennifer's books, and I'm so happy she liked CANARY!

Here's what she had to say:

"The subtle way Rachele Alpine addresses love, loss, popularity, and friendship makes this book a realistic and arresting read. For anyone who ever struggled with frenemies and fitting in, CANARY is an important addition to contemporary YA discussions."

~Jennifer Brown, author of THE HATE LIST

And just in case you missed my other blurbs, here is Erin Jade Lange's blurb (author of BUTTER) and Colleen Clayton's blurb (author of WHAT HAPPENS NEXT).

Newbery and Printz Award Predictions

In a little over a week, the Mid-Winter ALA (American Library Association) Meeting will happen, which is when the Newbery (middle grade) and Printz (YA) award winners are announced.  I wait for these awards eagerly, because I pretty much always fall in love with their choices ( Looking for Alaska !!!) and have discovered some books that I may not have read otherwise.  Books like Please Ignore Vera Dietz (King), Stolen (Christopher), Nothing (Teller).

This year I've read some pretty great books, so I want to venture a guess on what I hope will be nominated.  I may be totally off, but even if I am, you should read these books anyways!

Printz Award:

Ask the Passengers (A.S. King)
I think this one is going to take the award.  It is so amazing and I haven't stopped thinking about it yet.  Gah!  The book was pure brilliance and I envy King's writing so so much.

The Fault in Our Stars (John Green)
How could I not think of John Green?  His books rock my world, and this book has been getting lots and lots of attention since it's come out.  It's not my favorite Green book, but I sure did sob like a baby all the way through it.

Newbery Award:

Wonder (R.J. Palacio)
I want this book to win so so so bad.  I love this book so hard, and can only think of how great it would be if such a positive book won the Newbury.  After I finished this book, I bought three more copies of it to give to people and told about a million more people to read it.

See You At Harry's (Jo Knowles)
This is the type of book you need to read with a box of tissues next to you.  It was so sad, but among all the tears, there is also such hope and humor.  This is a book about family and loss and love.  It's beautiful.

And I haven't read this one yet, but it's on my TBR list.  I've heard nothing but amazing things about it, including Newbury talk...

The One and Only Ivan (Katherine Applegate)

What do you think?  Have you read any books this year that you'd like to see get one of these awards?

You've Got Questions? I've Got Answers!

I feel like I've been neglecting my dear old blog lately.

The truth is, I've been busy and while I'd love to blog more regularly, I've been having a hard time coming up with blog posts ideas.

So maybe you could help?

I thought I'd open my blog up to questions from you. Ask away. Everything is fair game! Ask about writing, publishing, interests, life, anything your heart desires! And if I answer your question (which I must likely will), I'll send you a CANARY bookmark. Yay! Loading...

CANARY BLURB: Erin Jade Lange, Author of BUTTER!

Remember when CANARY got this totally awesome blurb from Colleen Clayton???

Well, guess what?

It got another one!!!

Erin Jade Lange, author of one of my favorite books this year, BUTTER, blurbed CANARY!

This is what she has to say:

"Rachele Alpine's CANARY sings the truth about what happens when we put our high school heroes on a pedestal and give them the power to act like villains."

~Erin Jade Lange, author of BUTTER

Woo-hoo!

Check back next week, because I have one more blurb to share!  And then I think it will be time to have a contest.  I'm thinking books from the three authors who have blurbed CANARY so far and an ARC of CANARY!  How does that sound!?!
