Extract: Jenny Goes Dogging

There was a small cluster of cars pulled up towards one end of the parking area. Kids here for a beach party, she thought at first. But no. Three of them were family cars, the fourth a Beetle – not the souped-up bangers most teenagers had as their first cars.It was clearly some kind of gathering, though.Intrigued, she kept glancing in their direction as she headed through the dunes. There was definitely something odd about the gathering. Two of the cars had their interior lights on, and that made her realize how quickly dusk had settled.Closer, she stayed among the dunes rather than following the path down through the car park. Settling on her knees at the crest of one dune, she peered through the marram grass.Four or five people were gathered around a silver car, and for a moment she thought there was some kind of confrontation going on.The car was lit up inside, but even so it was hard to see what was going on.Bare flesh, she saw. A man, sitting back with his shirt open. And in his lap... a head bobbed up and down. Lots of blonde hair. There was a woman giving him head, and the people gathered around – four men and a woman – were watching!Had the couple in the car come here for some quiet – perhaps illicit – fun and this group seen what was happening?Jenny kneeled in the sand, wondering what to do. Did they need help? Should she phone the police? But what would she say...?As she pondered this, the woman in the group of onlookers turned and rested her backside on the front of the car, her long white skirt hitched up. One of the men went to her, fumbling at his trousers, and then he was thrusting against her, his bare white buttocks almost luminous in the evening light. One of the other men was masturbating.Jenny watched his fist pumping fast along the length of his shaft. Now she was intensely aware of how close she was to all this. She could see the swollen purple head of the man's dick each time he jerked his fist down his shaft. She could see the tension in the way he stood. He was a wiry man, maybe her age or a little older. His head was tipped back as he wanked and she felt sure that he was going to come at any moment.Standing as he was, his semen would spit out over the couple on the car bonnet, and as if she sensed this, the woman there twisted to face the masturbating man and reached out a hand towards him.Jenny was pressing her thighs together now, clenching and unclenching, the seam of her jeans hard against her clit. She slid a hand down and pressed, rolling her hips so that she ground against her hand.Around at the far side of the car, the other woman had opened a door and was now standing bent over at the waist. Still sucking the man inside, now one of the other men took her from behind, fucking her savagely so that the whole car shook.(continues)

Pollygraph (interviews with erotica authors): Maxwell Avoi

Why erotica?
My usual response to this question is "Why not?"

But to be more specific, writing erotica is just fun. I getto explore my kinks and story ideas that I've had for a long time, and now Iget paid for it. When I first started writing erotica, I didn't get paid, but Istill wrote.
What kinds of erotica do you write?
Generally I write transgender transformation erotica, with afantasy or sci-fi emphasis. Sometimes I branch out into non-TG stuff, andoccasionally I even do realistic erotica, but generally it's the transformationstuff.

Tell us about your experiences as an erotica author. Whathave the big challenges and successes been?
Well, I've only been doing this since August of 2011. Thebiggest thing for me was the realization that yes, I CAN do this, and that Ihadn't latched onto something that was going to let me down after a month ortwo. Posting my first bundle (Variations) was a real thrill, and so was thefirst time that I broke the $1000-in-one-month mark. That was pretty recent, actually, just in December. I've gotten to work with other authors, joining inon anthologies that have been both financially nice and great for exposure.

Do you write in other genres, too?
Occasionally, but it's always sci-fi or fantasy. I'm a nerd.

Do the people around you know what you write? How have theyreacted, or how would they react? My family knows, and they're amused that I'm doing so wellat it. A couple of my friends know, but I've been careful to tell the peoplewho react exactly the way that I hoped they would: roll their eyes, make a fewjokes, then move on without really worrying about it. It's like the old sayingsays: those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

Tell us about your most recent titles.
I just put out a story called "The Dragon and the(Virgin) Princess," which is a story told from the point of view of ayoung dragon who knows that he has to get a Virgin Princess to complete hishoard and be taken seriously by the older dragons. He figures that Princessescome from castles, so when a knight comes to challenge him, the dragon mistakesthe knight for a princess. Unfortunately, the knight is the wrong, well, shape,so the dragon uses his magic to reshape the knight into the image of thebeautiful princess that he's assembled from the minds of the humans ("tinycreatures") around him. It's not the best day that the knight ever had.The whole thing is done for humor, and I had a BLAST writing it.

Do you have a favourite, or favourites, among your stories?
I'll always have a soft spot for "Pollymorphed."It was one of my first, and one of my faves, I'm not sure why. I think overallmy favorite story of mine is "Twice Around." It was some of my betterwriting, and it's gotten some good feedback.

How do you normally go about writing an erotic story? Isthere much, ahem, research involved...?
Heh. Research. Sorry, part of me is still fourteen. Anyway! My story process is to come up with an idea of how a change might take place, and then explore it. Sometimes it really surprises me, and sometimes it flatwon't work. I'm not an outliner, except when I write the fairy tale retellingslike "Cat's Black Boots" or the upcoming "Silken Jane."Those have a pretty well-established formula and story, and I like to try tokeep true to that.

Do you have any favourite erotica authors?
Yes, but I mostly know screen names. There are a lot of realgems in sites like Fictionmania. I strongly recommend Morpheus, Ed Miller, orStephanie on that site. There are others, but those three are the ones thatcome to mind first. As far as those who are publishing for sale, S. Wolf isprobably my fave right now; he goes into sci-fi and fantasy a lot, so itappeals. I love some Gia Blue, some Sarah Salari. It's hard to choose, honestly, because I like bits and pieces of most authors. Also I hang out witha lot of them online, so I'd hate to upset anyone. You're all wonderful!

And finally, what can we expect to see from you soon?
Currently in the editing process are "SilkenJane," a retelling of Iron John with rather more transgendertransformation and sex, "Granted," a story about a company thatgrants wishes, and something I'm currently calling "The Shirt Story,"about magical shirts that change the wearer. I REALLY suck at titles.

Pollygraph (inteviews with erotica authors): Kali Lowe

Why erotica?

It's fun to write and people love to read it!
Erotica, I'm hoping, will eventually let me make a living doing something I love. I've always loved to write, and if I can manage to find success in erotica, I can see myself branching out creatively in all directions. Erotica, for me, means freedom in a lot of different ways.

What kinds of erotica do you write?I write erotica shorts, usually around 4,000 words. They're quick stories about situations that lead to sex. That's it! That said, I do prefer to avoid cliches and have more interesting setups, and I like to inject just a little bit of humor and wit into my writing. But above all, I want to write what people want to read and whatever gets them really hot, and I imagine I'll eventually test the waters in a lot of different subgenres. So far, I haven't tried to specialize.

Tell us about your experiences as an erotica author. What have the big challenges and successes been?I've only been in the business for about a month, but it's been a very exciting month which has far exceeded my expectations. It's totally a rollercoaster, though. Everything can seem great one week, and the next week it's the end of the world. The greatest challenge is learning to look past the temporary highs and lows and think about my growth over time. Self-publishing, regardless of genre, requires long-term thinking, which isn't something that comes easily. It's natural to want instant gratification and quick success, but that's rare and happens only to the very lucky. For the rest of us, it's a lot of hard work.

Of course, writing erotica faces a lot of external threats as well, some of which have hit us hard in the last month. As independent, prolific, and adaptive authors, we're a huge threat to larger publishers, and our subject matter makes us an easy target. Censorship can never win in the end, though. People will always want to read about sex, and we'll still be willing to write about it.
Do you write in other genres, too? Oh, yes. I suspect that very few erotica authors write only erotica. Similarly, I'm sure a lot of respected, mainstream authors have a secret pen name or two for the naughtier side of publishing. Sex is a huge part of people's lives, and if you can write, it's perfectly natural to write about sex.

I've been writing for my entire life, beginning with one page, single paragraph stories painstakingly typed on the family typewriter when I was eight years old. I usually write short stories in the science fiction or fantasy genres. I also have a huge fantasy novel that I've fully intended to finish for, oh, about nine years now. One of these days!
Do the people around you know what you write? How have they reacted, or how would they react?A few people know, but usually I just say "Oh, I've started self-publishing" and then carefully dodge the question of genre. I'm certainly not ashamed (you can't afford shame in this business) but it would be a very awkward conversation. Among my friends, it's basically turned into a running joke, so no problem there. I have a lot of open-minded friends.

Tell us about your most recent titles.
I've written two stories in a new "Sex In Space" series. They're about a female space explorer named Zarah whose job is to set foot on potentially dangerous Earth-like planets before anyone else does. Someone has to be first, right? They're a lot of fun to write because science fiction lets you do about anything, and I've been taking full advantage of that.

I've always enjoyed writing science fiction, and I knew when I started this business that I would eventually meld that with erotica. I've had good, early success with those titles, and I'm very glad that people are enjoying them. Science fiction erotica is definitely something I'll continue to write.
Do you have a favourite, or favourites, among your stories?I've been surprised by how much I've liked a few of my stories once I've finished writing them. One is "Night Visitor," a story about ghost sex. I know that people enjoy paranormal erotica and I wanted to try writing it myself, but I was afraid that it would just turn out silly. But it took on a life of its own, and ended up being an emotional little story about a woman coming to terms with a hard breakup that, you know, just happens to have ghost sex at the end. It may not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed writing it!

My other favorite is "Anal Favor," which is about a woman who wants to try anal sex with her boyfriend, but doesn't want it to be one of those awkward first times. The logical solution? Ask her male best friend to give her her first anal experience instead. I was surprised to find myself writing a sweet little ending to this story, and I like the transformation in the relationship of the main characters.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I enjoy it when I'm trying to write a simple erotica short and my characters surprise me by coming to life, just a little, and telling a bit of their own story in between all the hot sex.
How do you normally go about writing an erotic story? Is there much, ahem, research involved...?My first step is to brainstorm ideas and think about which characters to put in which situations: a sort of mental assessment where I just ask myself, "What's turning me on today?" I like to always have something new to think about in terms of sex, so I'm always trying to think up new ideas. And sometimes an idea just strikes me out of nowhere. "Sex In Space: The Aphrodisiac Flower" originated with a throwaway joke that a friend made, and I just went all the way with it.

As for research... well, yes, sometimes! Only erotica authors can look at porn and be able to call it work. Sometimes you need to know how the position you want to describe would really work. If you're lucky, you might even have a partner to try it out with. Naked research: just another reason why we have the best job.
Do you have any favourite erotica authors?Even as new to this as I am, I increasingly see erotica authors as colleagues and friends rather than just other writers. There is really no sense of competition in this business; we all help each other out constantly, and it's an amazing little community. In particular, I'd like to mention Kitty Meaker, Lula Lisbon, Zara Black, Erika L. Foster, and all the rest of us who started in 2012. We're basically a support group, and we're all each other's cheerleaders. Carl East, Selena Kitt, and the other big names in the business, I don't know as well but they're my heroes and they're awesome for taking the time to dispense advice to us newbies. And last but not least, Delilah Fawkes is amazing, full of excellent advice and always ready with an encouraging word when we need it the most. I wouldn't have gotten anywhere in this business without her.

Oh, and yes, they can all write a good, hot story, too!
And finally, what can we expect to see from you soon?I tend to write stories in triplets, and it's looking like my next three are going to be about sex in public. In my next release, a shy woman attending her bachelorette party comes out of her shell and ends up having a bit too much fun with the male stripper hired by her friends. It'll be called "Stripped by the Stripper" and it should be coming out any day now.

Free erotica titles

Now that we have near-instant reporting through the likes of Amazon, authors spend far too much of their time watching the figures tick over. I'm as guilty as most, and I know I should check less often.

But in the last few weeks it's been very exciting to see the success of one particular title.

Private Party, part of my Girls' Club series, went free at Amazon in the US in late February. In its first week or so that book was downloaded more than 2,000 times and it was soon lodged in and around the top 20 for free erotica, where it has remained ever since.

In March, downloads will top 10,000 for that title alone.

I love that so many readers have taken an interest in one of my titles. I hope that they'll enjoy it. And, of course, I hope that this will be a gateway book, and readers will go on to buy my other stories.

It'd be lovely if Amazon would make Private Party free at their UK and other stores, too, but that's very hard for me to influence. It'll happen soon, I hope.

In the meantime, just for the weekend of 31 March and 1st April I've made Forbidden Fruit free, the opening story in my Knee-tremblers series.

Happy reading!

Extract: Forbidden Fruit (Knee-tremblers series)

Tell me: am I a bitch? Am I a double-crossing slut? No. On second thoughts, don't tell me. I know the answer.I met Reuben for the first time at a dinner party at Heidi's apartment. Maybe a dozen of us were there, each with some or other connection to our host.Katie was there. She was new, had only been at the law firm for a couple of months. She was our records manager, so I came into contact with her on a regular basis and in that short time we'd moved from nods and smiles to coffees and lunches.I knew she was an espresso in the morning, skinny latte in the afternoon kind of a girl. I knew she liked riding, and had her own stable somewhere out of the city. I knew she'd joined the firm to try to kick-start a new beginning for her and her waste of space husband. I knew far too much about their marriage. But until that dinner party, I'd never met the man himself. Her husband. Reuben.I knew he liked Katie in expensive lingerie. I knew he liked risky sex – in a lift once, or outdoors, or at parties. I knew he loved Katie to go down on him, but she had never really liked it and only gave in because he got moody if she didn't.But she'd never told me he was so hot! In his Armani suit, his tie loosened, his jaw dark with the day's stubble, and those dark, brooding eyes, all it took was a look. She'd told me what it was like to be fucked by him, the intensity, the power of his body, the passion. And when his eyes met mine I realised I knew too much already. Was I a bitch already, just for looking? Just for imagining what it must be like?My first fantasy image, as I was introduced to him and felt the firm shake of his hand and met that melting look: rough, uncaring sex, me against a wall, my skirt drawn up, one leg curled around him as he positioned himself and I felt hardness pressing against me, parting my lips, entering. Pumping like a piston and I'm trying not to cry out and... That was what flashed through my head.He released my hand, said, "Hi," and smiled. "Katie's told me all about you."I smiled back and tried to calm my racing heart. "Oh," I said, "and she's told me all about you too."Does that make me a bitch? A slut? Just for thinking, for imagining?Or was it what we did later that evening that tipped the balance?

Pollygraph (interviews with erotica authors): Kitty Meaker

Why erotica?
I've always enjoyed reading erotica, and when I found out there was such a demand for it in the ebook market, I thought, "I could help fill that demand!" It turns out that writing erotica is as much fun as reading it, and getting paid to do it is just an added perk!

What kinds of erotica do you write?
As many kinds as possible, although I seem to be naturally attracted to writing about younger ladies with older men. But I'm not opposed to ladies with ladies, or men with men, or any combination in between! I'm currently working on some paranormal stories, and getting to use my imagination to deal with stories about ghosts and aliens has been really fun!

Tell us about your experiences as an erotica author. What have the big challenges and successes been?
The biggest challenge is one that most writers face: self-doubt. When I have a slow sales day or just can't write as much as I'd like, it's easy to think that I'm not any good at this. But I keep plugging along and as soon as I publish a new story, I feel good about writing again!

Do you write in other genres, too?
I write just about anything when it comes to erotica, but I don't write much outside of erotica. What I do write is for myself, and I don't publish it. Perhaps someday I'll put it out there for the world to see... but my erotica is much more interesting!

Do the people around you know what you write? How have they reacted, or how would they react?
My family knows, and they're supportive.

Tell us about your most recent titles.
I recently put together the Hot Sex Collection - four reasonably priced bundles that collect the best stories from over 15 erotica authors. I have a story in each bundle, so it's a great way for someone to check out my stuff!

Do you have a favourite, or favourites, among your stories?
Teenage Shave Party is my favorite story, and it's the favorite among readers as well. A group of college girls getting together for their first-time shaves, and then having raunchy sex with each other... what's not to love?

How do you normally go about writing an erotic story? Is there much, ahem, research involved...?
I find myself going to Google once or twice for every story to make sure I get some little detail right, but I mostly write from personal experience or having read about it in someone else's story. I find it's best to write from experience, and since becoming an erotica writer I find myself willing to try a lot more than I have in the past!

Do you have any favourite erotica authors?
Too many to name, but if I had to choose a couple of names, I'd go with Delilah Fawkes and Erika Foster. They really inspire me!

And finally, what can we expect to see from you soon?
A story about ghosts, a story about aliens, and a story about robots! They say to "write what you know"... and I know that I like things a little paranormal! These stories have been so much fun to write that I expect I'll be writing more paranormal stories in the future... at least after I take care of my next big idea!

Soundbite review: Once a Cuckold by Katie Cramer

This one opens with Tom hiding outside, spying on his wife as she has sex with a stranger. All very well: this is what he'd arranged. The trouble is, she was meant to be having sex with a different stranger. This opening is a hallmark of Katie Cramer at work: it's hot and horny, but it's more than that - it sets up an intriguing situation, a puzzle that you just have to solve.

That the author manages to construct a story that's both clever and very sexy out of a marriage where the husband is inadequate is impressive: Tom is not at all well endowed, and he's not as young or handsome as the stud he watches screwing his wife; he can't even get it up until he watches his wife with someone else. This is smut of a higher class than most, and I'm definitely going to seek out more of Cramer's Cuckold stories.

Let's play tag

How do you find the books that might interest you on Amazon? You can browse by category, and by bestseller lists, you can look for authors you've enjoyed before, or you can just search. One of the ways Amazon keeps its searches accurate is by looking for tags that people can add to a book's page. And one of the things readers and friends can do to help an author is to add those tags. (Did you notice the hint there? Subtle or what?)

How to add those tags?

Just scroll down a book's page until you see the tags section, then you can add your own tags or simply click the existing tags if you agree with them. Even easier, when you're looking at a book's Amazon page, if you press 't' twice in rapid succession, you'll get a pop-up window where you can past a list of comma-separated tags (up to 15). While you're there, you can always click the 'like' button, too - another way to help an author you like.

If anyone would like to tag my books, I'd be very grateful, and just to make it easier for you, here's a set of links with suitable tags:

Extract: Danger Fucks - XXX with my Ex

So... what would you do if you walked in on someone having sex? What if it was your ex, a man who still had the power to make you wet with eye contact alone? What if it was your ex with – Mel... that was Mel! Were they together, or was this just a spur of the moment party fuck? And if they were together why didn't I know? So. Yes. Anyway. What would you do if you walked in on your seriously hot ex while he's going down on your old friend Mel?I'm over him, of course. It's been months and we've both moved on.I'm hardly at all turned on just standing there for a moment too long while he tongues her with his usual attention to detail. You'd turn away, wouldn't you? You'd quietly retreat, easing the door closed. Walk away. Turn a blind eye. At most you might mention it to the girls downstairs and make one or two jokey comments when the two of them finally emerged.Anyone in their right mind would do that. But me... Sometimes I just push the boundaries, take silly risks.Me: I stand in that doorway for a moment too long. I'm there long enough for Mel to start tossing her head from side to side as he steps up the intensity with his tongue.Twisting and writhing, she's lost to the moment – has she just come? I think she might have! – and then her eyes open and she sees me. I feel my eyes open wide, and I raise a hand apologetically. I'm just about to take a step backwards when Mel closes her eyes and starts to throw her head from side to side again. Maybe she hasn't just come. Maybe he's doing that thing where he keeps taking you right to the edge and then pausing. So what would you do if you walked in on a couple having sex, stayed too long and then you were seen? This is new territory for me and I'm not sure how to react. When Mel opens her eyes again she smiles. She's enjoying it, enjoying having an audience, probably getting an extra kick out of the knowledge that I know exactly what she's experiencing. There's a change then, and Mel groans. He's stopped the long licking and now his head isn't moving. His tongue is doing all the work. He'll be doing that rapid flicking thing now, his tongue lapping at the hard bud of her clit. I can see that she's gripping fistfuls of duvet and her back is arching. She's really close. As I say, I like to push the boundaries sometimes. I like to take risks. And so, as my ex works Mel's clit with his fast-flicking tongue, I step into the room, gently close the door and approach them.

Pollygraph (interviews with erotica authors): Aubrey Watt

Aubrey wasn't willing to foolaround. "You wanna talk?" she said down the phone. "You talk inthe flesh, you hear me?" Always eager to keep our purveyors of smut sweet,I despatched my American operative, Sally Jones, to conduct the interview.
Aubrey walked into the interview room and sat on the metalfolding chair. Her dress was tight as the orifices in her stories, but Ifelt more professional in my tailored D&G two-button suit, clipboard tucked smartly under my elbow. [image error]
"I hear you've got some questions," she said, crossing her legs deliberately one over the other. She was cool as ice, thatwas for sure, and I knew it was going to be hard to wring true answers fromthose red laced panties.
"Relax, doll," I said. "This might take awhile." I crossed my own legs, flashing the soles of my Louboutin pumps.Sexier than underwear, if you ask me.
"Well, alright then." Her voice was a rumbledipped in honey. "Don't keep me waiting, sugar. Let's have the firstone."
"Of all the genres of all the artforms in this crazymessed-up world," I said, leaning forward in my chair,"why did youchoose to self-publish erotica?"
She cocked her head to one side, her hair falling over hereyes. "It's hot, and it sells." She pursed her lips, blotting herfire-engine red lipstick and looking me straight in the eyes. "And I cango to work naked."
The dame was right about one thing. It was hot. Some mightsay too hot.
"This PayPal fiasco," I said. "You knowanything about it?"
"I ain't heard nothing but some censors got frisky andstarted burning URLs. It's a shame, really. We're just a buncha booky broadstrying to make it in this hard world," she purred, and for a second Ialmost believed her.
"So you're all on the up and up?" I asked."None of the hard stuff?"
"And even if I did, what's it to you? Ain't nothingwrong with getting your kicks in fantasyland." She pouted. "All thepeople who know I write sex stories love it."
"Even your mother?"
She arched her brow. "Especially mymother."
"What kinda stuff do you write?" I peeredat her to see if she would tell me the truth.
"Cowboys, soldiers, undercover strippers." Herheavy lids blinked at me. "The undercover stripper story is my favorite, but I've only been doing it a coupla months and I still got a ways to go.My favorite romance novel when I was a just a girl was Scents byJohanna Kingsley. I'd love to be able to write the way she does."
"How do you write these things, anyway?" I askedas if I didn't already know, as if I hadn't already done one or two myself.
"It's just getting motivated to put pen to paper,"she said. "The ideas come easy. I'm always thinking about cocks."
Her hand flew up to her mouth as she realized what she hadsaid. I smiled at her and tapped the clipboard with the pen. "Alwayscocks, huh?"
She was cute when she tried not to blush. "I really dolove writing sexy stories. And even better is making the covers for them.Sometimes I'll just spend hours drooling over those fine manbodies..."
"Okay, okay, let's keep it dry here. So what'snext?" I shook my hair out behind me and poised my pen over my paper. Thiswas gonna be gold, I just knew it.
"I'm writing a longer novella called To Make a Man.It's about a digitally intelligent humanoid who finds love."
"A digiwhat now?" My brow furrowed in a confusedyet sexy way. My readers are usually up on the latest whiz-gadgetrybut this was something altogether new.
"Never mind about that," she said. "Just tell'em where to find me and I'll tell 'em when I'm done writing it."
"You got it, darling," I said, tucking my pen intomy cleavage. The dame stood up to leave, all legs and business, and I openedthe door for her.
"Thanks for coming in," I said, "Anythingelse I think of, I'll give you a shout."
"Don't be a stranger," she said, and walked intothe dark alley and out of my life.
