Pollygraph (interviews with romance and erotica authors): Anna Antonia

All anyone really wants is to truly be seen & loved—even if they’re a little mad, bad, and dangerous in how they go about it.
Sounds great - why not take some more space and tell me more?
Take a billionaire with an unhealthy fixation on his first love and a woman who’s never allowed herself to fully trust and you have “Mad for You”. The novel explores an unconventional, second chance romance between these two people who fell in love years before but were too afraid to let themselves be really seen and understood by the other.
Where does it fall on the scale between sweet romance and down'n'dirty erotica?
The first book leans more towards sensual romance but the second one promises to take a darker trip towards down’n’dirty erotica. And I can’t wait!

What do you think is the attraction of the super-wealthy lover (yes, there's the money, I know, but what else?)? Why do we like so much to read about them?
I think on a simplistic level it calls to our universal need for security, but it really boils down to power. Super-wealthy lovers are alpha to the max because of what it took to acquire their wealth. The woman who captures his attention also captures that power. It’s the ultimate aphrodisiac.
What makes a good erotic romance novel for you?
A good erotic romance novel, for me, is one that explores the psychological as well as the physical aspects of a couple’s relationship. The more layers it contains, the better. When a writer lets me peek into the mindset of her characters, it makes the sexual that much hotter. We are able to understand why the Hero is possessive or why the Heroine is afraid to trust, but neither are able to resist the lure of the other.
Mad for You has been released as part of the Insatiable Reads Summer Tour. Which other IR authors should we look out for?
I couldn’t even begin to choose.

What's your ideal writing day?
My ideal writing day starts with a comfy pair of socks, snacks, and a great movie playing in the background. Oh, and a clean house. (Rarely do I manage to get that part done first.)
What's the perfect gift for a super-wealthy lover - or admirer - to give?
His time and full attention.
Where's the most romantic place for a vacation, no expense spared?
Turtle Island in Fiji. Only a maximum of 14 couples are allowed on the island at a time, with each couple having a private beach all to themselves. It’s exquisitely beautiful and is truly paradise on Earth. Fun fact: the movie “The Blue Lagoon” was filmed there.
What have you read recently?
Kresley Cole’s “Lothaire”. I’m new to her series, and reading out of order, but I’m really enjoying it so far.
And finally, a variant on that opening question: in no more than 140 characters, tell readers why they should buy your book.
Can Gabriel & Emma’s obsessed & damaged romance still be true love when it defies logic & borders on insane? Come find out. #MadforYou
Mad For You by Anna Antonia
I had gone to high school with Gabriel Gordon. Despite his heavenly name and matching beauty, Gabriel was anything but angelic. Rich, spoiled, and far too cynical for his age, he could easily charm the skirt off a prim beauty or a young teacher or two. Gabriel Gordon was mad, bad, and ...well, you probably know the rest.
The years hadn't changed him, despite taking over his father's company and expanding it into a multinational corporation. Unfortunately, it was just my luck that I found myself working in Gabriel's building. Although I had managed to avoid him for the better part of a month, a chance encounter in the elevator proved he was still an arrogant man who showed far too much interest in the shape of my mouth and nape of my neck.
From then on, Gabriel bedeviled me, teased me, and more often than not, made me want to throw things at his head. Still, just as in high school, I couldn't help but see the pain behind his lazy grin and the shadows in his crystalline gaze. When Gabriel confessed his love for me, I should have been the happiest woman in the world. Too bad I couldn't believe him...
Emma Adams had always considered herself level-headed, even-tempered, and most of all, sane. So how did she become someone who couldn't seem to push Gabriel Gordon away? No matter how sweet his words could be or how easily passion exploded between them, getting involved with the outrageously wealthy playboy had to be the height of insanity. Given their tumultuous natures and personal demons, there was only way a relationship between them could survive: in madness.

Pollygraph (interviews with romance and new adult authors): Helena Newbury

A troubled dance student falls for the millionaire who hires her as his muse.
I'm hooked already - tell me more.
It's set in and around Fenbrook Academy - a top performing arts college in New York where dancers, musicians and actors all rub shoulders. It's a place where you see ballerinas sitting in the cafeteria next to guys running lines from CSI, and where rock guitarists have to get along with violin players.
It's a story of Natasha and Darrell, two lovers who struggle to deal with big personal issues. What were these issues and how hard was it to write about them?
Both characters are trapped by their pasts. Natasha is consumed by guilt and self-harms as a way to deal with it. Darrell looks, at first glance, as if he has it all. He's a multi-millionaire designer with a mansion, a fast bike and plenty of parties to go to. But his drive comes from anger, and it's eating him up from the inside. When he meets Natasha, he's close to burning out, and his anger has led to him doing some very dark things...
Dance For Me has been described as New Adult: what does that label mean to you?
I believe that Young Adult is about becoming an adult. New Adult is: I'm an adult - now what? It's about dreams colliding with reality - your life doesn't turn out the way you wanted it, or it does and you discover it's no longer what you want. You're dealing with that on your own, flying solo for the first time now that your parents have stepped back, making your own mistakes and living with the consequences.
The novel has been released as part of the Insatiable Reads Summer Tour. Which other IR authors should we look out for?
Andra Brynn has a book out called Where I End and You Begin which I was privileged to beta read. That's an amazing book, about a college student who's perilously close to coming off the rails, and the man who might just be able to save her. It has everything: great characters, some very original settings (the characters go urban exploring, so it's all tumbledown houses and abandoned buildings) and very deft handling of some painful issues. The writing is superb - go and check out an extract and you'll see what I mean.
Nadia Simonenko has Foundout, which is the sequel to Lost. It's a release day purchase for me because I loved the first book.
What's your perfect writing day?
Get up early, get some words crunched before breakfast, do maybe three one hour sessions in the morning, cook lunch, another three sessions in the afternoon with breaks for coffee and the gym and stop in time to still have a free evening.
And your perfect evening out?
One of those warm summer evenings where the sky stays light and full of promise and you can sit outside with a candlelit meal.
Summer or winter?
Winter as long as there's somewhere warm and snug and preferably underground to cuddle up with alcohol. Summer as long as I'm not stuck indoors.
What have you read recently?
After Math by Denise Grover Swank, which I really enjoyed.
And finally, a variant on that opening question: in no more than 140 characters, tell readers why they should buy your book.
A ballerina, in leotard, tights and pointe shoes, clings to the back of a muscled biker as they speed through the New York streets. If you like that image, you'll like the book.
Dance For Me (Fenbrook Academy #1)
by Helena Newbury
Natasha is one of the most promising ballet dancers at the prestigious Fenbrook Academy of Performing Arts and she’s just landed a life-changing audition. But no one knows the guilt she carries...or the damage it makes her inflict on herself when she’s alone.
Darrell is a multi-millionaire designer at 25. But past traumas have pushed him into isolation and the intense pressure of his work has brought him to the edge of burnout. Seeking inspiration, he sees Natasha dance and hires her as his muse.
As she dances for him, the two become entwined in a passionate but troubled relationship. He starts to see the pain inside her and helps her gradually lower her defenses...but Darrell has demons of his own. Can two broken people save each other? Or will the darkness they’re hiding consume them both?
This New Adult Romance is recommended for 17+ due to mature themes, sexual situations and language.

Author Bio
I’m a New Adult Romance author who loves writing about what happens when love and dreams collide with the real world. I wrote my first novel, Dance for Me, in daily chunks in a very busy, very noisy coffee shop, which meant I had to order a black Americano every hour, on the hour, to keep my seat and wound up wired on caffeine most days. Unlike my characters, I can’t dance.

Pollygraph (interviews with romance authors): Emme Rollins

She's crazy for a rock star. He's crazy enough to become one. Sometimes the best things in life are crazy.
I'm liking the sound of that - why not take some more space and tell me more?
Here's a little blurb to give you an idea of what you're getting with Dear Rockstar:
Sara is obsessed with rock star Tyler Vincent, and as she works to complete her senior year, she’s determined to find a way to meet him—although her best friend, Aimee, keeps telling her to find a different escape from her desperately violent home life.
Complications arise when Dale, the mysterious new transfer student, sets his sights on Sara, and she falls for this rock-star-in-the-making in spite of her better judgment. When Sara wins a contest, she is faced with a choice—travel to Tyler Vincent’s home town to meet him, or stay and support Dale in a Battle-of-the-Bands hosted by MTV.
Their triangulated relationship is pushed to its breaking point, but there is another, deeper secret that Dale’s been keeping that just may break things wide open...
Turn up your collar, feather your hair, and splash on some Polo, because we’re going back to the ‘80’s when MTV played music videos, there was no such thing as American Idol, and becoming a star meant doing nothing short of crazy for that one, big break.
What's your experience of the rock band scene? Were you ever in a band? If not, would you like to have been?
I can't even sing karaoke! And the only instrument I ever played was the recorder in kindergarten. I'm just not musically inclined, I'm afraid, so if I ever tried out for American Idol, it would only be as comic relief. If I could choose one thing I could do well that I don't, though, it would be one of those two things - either to sing or play an instrument. And I'm one of those women who turns into a thirteen-year-old girl at concerts, squeeing like mad. I'm such a sucker for a man with a guitar! So while I've never been in a band, I hugely admire those who are musically talented - big, big fan!
Who is the perfect rock star heart-throb? Did you model Tyler Vincent on anyone?
For me, personally, it was Jim Morrison from The Doors, who was before my time, but a sexier man never lived. I can't think of any man who exuded sex more than he did. But no, Tyler Vincent isn't really modeled on anyone specific. He is his own man, through and through!
If you were limited to five tracks, what would your perfect playlist be?
The Doors - People are Strange
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Flooding Down in Texas
Dave Matthews - Crash
Robert Plant - All the King's Horses
Allison Krauss - Down to the River to Pray
What makes a good erotic romance novel for you?
Lots of sexual tension, drama, angst and a happy ever after, of course! That, and characters you can really relate to. Real people, not cardboard cutouts.
Dear Rockstar has been released as part of the Insatiable Reads Summer Tour. Which other IR authors should we look out for?
There are some big names on the tour - Julia Kent, for example, who just hit the USA Today Bestseller list with her "new adult" novel, Random Acts of Crazy. Her book, Suspiciously Obedient, is sure to make readers happy! But there are some new names, I think, you'll be seeing around a lot more, writers that may just knock the socks off the reading world, like Andra Brynn (Where I End and You Begin) and Anna Antonia (Mad for You)!
What's your perfect writing day?
Words on a page. Or, I guess, on a screen. If I write that day, it's a good day!
What have you read recently?
I'm in the middle of N0S4ATU by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son) and I just recently finished Katy Evans' Real (Oh Remington Tate, you are a God! What a fabulous writer of sexual tension Katy is!) and The Girl in 6E, which I can highly recommend as a fabulous new adult book!
And finally, a variant on that opening question: in no more than 140 characters, tell readers why they should buy your book.
Love, secrets, obsession and rock n roll! Need I say more?

Spotlight: His Passion, Her Temptation by Malia Mallory #romance #excerpt #billionaire #bdsm

His Need, Her Desire (Book 1) is currently FREE at most retail outlets.Amazon | Amazon UK | Barnes & Noble | iTunes | All Romance | Kobo | Bookstrand

Granger Pharma executive Monica Granger is hiding her relationship from her family. She has to. Her lover is the son of her father's biggest business rival. Ben Coron is more than Monica can resist; he's everything she's ever wanted—including dominant in bed.
But when Coron Health makes a play for Granger Pharma, Monica's relationship—and her life—blow wide open. She loses her job, and her family rejects her. Someone's stealing Granger's vital trade secrets, and worse, Monica's brother is dodging attempts on his life.
Their passion is too strong to keep Monica and Ben apart for long. They must thwart the takeover and heal the rift between their families. If they don't, they'll never trust one another enough to pursue the dominance and submission they both need.
His Passion, Her Temptation Excerpt
"So, do you want to eat now … or later?" Monica's smile turned seductive.
"Well, I think I might need you first." His hand reached to touch the silkiness of her hair.
"I agree. Food can wait." Monica pulled his head down and kissed him, greedy to taste his lips.
Without breaking the kiss, Ben guided her out of the hallway into the living room.
Monica slipped her finger under the edge of his collar. "You know, it doesn't seem fair that you get to call all the shots."
"Oh? I call all the shots?" Ben's hands roamed to her rear and squeezed.
"Yes … you decide when and how …" Monica licked the edge of his lip.
"One, that isn’t quite true, and two, I haven't heard you complaining." He gave her a playful pinch on the ass.
"Oh no, I'm not complaining." Her hand moved to the front of his pants, cupping him.
"Then what?" His hands slid down to the back of her thighs.
"I thought it might be fun to … try a little something else." She rubbed him through the fabric of his pants.
"What did you have in mind?" Ben swept his hands up her back and tangled his fingers in her hair.
Monica tilted her head back. "Do you recall that night before I left for Hawaii?"
"I do believe it is burned into my memory."
"Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be interesting to reverse things." Monica observed his face for a reaction.
"Reverse things?"
"Oh yes." Her finger laid a trail down the front of his chest. "You," she poked him gently, "would do as I say."
"I see. Are you finding you have a dominant streak?" he teased.
"I'm not sure, but I have a desire to find out." The thought of taking charge appealed to Monica, not all the time, but perhaps occasionally.
Ben smiled. "That sounds … enticing."
"I hoped you'd think so." Monica walked around him, patting his ass with her palm.
"How would you start?"
"I'd tell you to disrobe for my viewing pleasure." Monica enjoyed looking at the hard planes of Ben's body, so different from her own curves.
"Shall I?"
"Oh, yes." Monica crossed the few steps to the seating area and settled herself into an upholstered chair.
Ben approached Monica and then turned his back toward her. He loosened his tie and pulled it free, tossing it over his shoulder in Monica's direction before unbuttoning his shirt and letting the fabric fall to the floor. He turned slightly and caught her eye. Monica flushed under his wicked gaze.

What prompted you to set up this site?I’ve wanted my own site for a few years now, but I was content with the way sites like Apple (iBooks) and Amazon (Kindle) handled the many books that were appearing on the scene. Then, suddenly, Amazon decided to start filtering our work. Instead of banning them or censoring them, these companies decided to hide them away. When you try to search for these stories today, in a lot of cases you will only find them if you’re armed with the author's name or the ASIN number of the book. So, as new readers come along, they have no idea about these books and never come across them.
I was earning almost $4,000 a month with Amazon alone until they began to hide my stories with their ADULT filter. I’m now earning $350 a month and I’m only earning that because of all the people that know I exist. I consider myself an honest man and I was and still am angry with how I and other authors are being treated. It was us and all the other indie authors who put these companies on the map, yet they felt like they could treat us badly just because we write erotic stories.
Enough is enough, that’s what I thought when I received my January check from Amazon. If I don’t do something about this, they will get away with it, because who’s going to come forward and defend the erotic authors from being treated like this. Oh, people will be annoyed that their favorite authors are being hidden away, but they won’t say anything about it, except maybe a line or two on Facebook.
I figured, well, if these companies don’t want the money that erotic stories provide, I’ll gladly take it off their hands. I then set about creating my own site. I knew straight away that I’d have to be special in order to compete with these giants. I knew I had to have a way to attract the readers. With that in mind, I quickly decided to give the readers offers that none of these companies would even consider, let alone actually do.
On my site the readers can pick up deals like “buy one and get one free.” They will find free books and bargain pages. In time, I will create other enticements for the readers to enjoy. At the moment, I’m new and discoverable, but I can see a time, (with the help of the customers) when I am successful. When that happens, I’m going to look into the possibility of paperback books, with sensible prices instead of the inflated ones you see from Amazon and Apple. I’m sick to death with being ripped off by these companies. Instead of just complaining about it all though, I’m doing something about it. All I need is customer support and I will try to change the way it is today.
Isn't it a bit odd that hugely successful multinationals like Amazon make large amounts of money from adult material, yet bury it away - or at least some of it - in such a haphazard manner? I wish they’d realize that there is a market for these stories and treat them accordingly. Instead, they treat them as if no one really wants them, which isn’t true. I find it hard to believe that we live in the 21st century sometimes when I see them treating these stories the way they do.
Do you think there should be any kind of filter, or labeling, or is the fact that books are categorized as 'erotica' more than enough? What should Amazon and the others be doing?Yes, I think what they should’ve done from day one is to make it clear that these stories are for mature people. They should’ve isolated them away from the mainstream books, and made people aware that adults could find them on adult pages. In other words, a site within a site that catered for adults only. But instead, they treat us as if they know best and we should just follow along like little children and do as we are told.
Are there any authors featured on your site who have been hit hardest by this?Every erotic author I know, which is over a hundred, has been affected by this. One author, who I know well, recently said this about why these companies are doing what they’re doing.
How about your own titles? Tell us about some of your own favorites that are now filtered and so that bit harder to find. They are too numerous to mention here, but I’ll tell you about a couple of books that are filtered. They are bundles, made up with short erotic stories and are called “Gangbang Stories 1 and 2” the titles say it all really. lol
And finally, where's your writing taking you at the moment? Are you moving in any particular direction with your current work, or is it more a case of following where the stories lead?I’m still writing erotica, mainly because I enjoy writing it but partly because I’ve found success in the stories that I write. At the moment, I’m trying to write a supernatural erotic novel, but this new site is getting in my way. I need to get it up and running so that I can concentrate on my writing again. I’m also into translations and have paid for my first book to be translated into German. I’m waiting to see how that one does before I commit to doing any more, as it’s quite an expensive procedure. I have invested a lot of money in audio books as well and I’m glad to say that some of those books are doing well.

If you had to sum up your new novel, Where I End and You Begin, in a single tweet of 140 characters, what would it be?
Bad girl + good boy = unlikely friendship, but forbidden attraction and the ghosts of the past threaten to destroy their fragile connection.
Sounds intriguing - why not take some more space and tell me more?
WELL. Where I End and You Beginrevolves around a young woman named Bianca, who drinks too much and sleeps with too many guys in an effort to avoid the extreme feelings that stem from a deeply traumatic event in her past. Her coping mechanisms--such as they are--cause her to get in deep trouble in school, and she has to accept help from a very unlikely place, namely a straight-laced Nice Boy, in an attempt to haul herself out of the hole she's dug. They become tenuous friends, though she's not used to being friends with guys without trying to get in bed with them, so when she finds out that her Nice Boy is an aspiring priest going through a crisis of faith, things get intense.
Where I End and You Begin has been described as New Adult: what does that label mean to you?
It's all about becoming a new person, which is essentially the point of any novel, but since the stories take place during the time that we are inundated by firsts, the emotional intensity is off the charts because everything is so new, and sometimes scary, and definitely out of our comfort zone. And, unfortunately for many people, the lessons learned in childhood are inadequate at best, and downright harmful at worst, so to me, New Adult is all about relearning to become a person. Take my heroine, Bianca. Her maladaptive behaviors, learned in response to her past grief, are self-sabotaging. She is stuck in an in-between state, with a twisted and painful childhood on one side, and a future full of possibilities on the other. Whether that future will be good or bad depends on whether or not she can unlearn the harmful lessons and replace them with better ones, essentially becoming a new person. I mean, it's right there in the name! New Adult.
It's New Adult with a dark edge, though, isn't it: the story of a young woman who has made a mess of her life. Did you find it difficult to write about her traumas?
Sometimes. Having to recall and relive some of those feelings so I can accurately put them down on paper is definitely a challenge in that recalling those feelings also recalls the bad behaviors I've grown out of, and I grew out of those behaviors for a reason! I don't want to go back to them. Luckily I wrote the book in 12 days, so I didn't have to linger long in those dark places.
In the book you tell us that in Japan, they say there's a red thread of fate that binds people who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. It may tangle, it may knot, it may stretch or fray, but it will never break. It is a future as indelible as the past. Do you believe in fate?
In a way. There are things happening right now that will converge at some point in the future, altering our lives forever, but what we learn and how we respond is up to us. The challenges happening to us right now are always in flux, but it was, perhaps, inevitable that we would have to face them.
What makes a good romance novel for you?
A slooooooow burn. Lots of sexual tension. High stakes. And denial to the very end! Also I hate it when characters confess their love. I always roll my eyes, because I'm a jerk like that. Love is in actions, not words. It should be obvious without saying it. But those books are pretty rare.
Where I End and You Begin has been released as part of the Insatiable Reads Summer Tour. Which other IR authors should we look out for?
Oh, all of them? Haha, no, but seriously, I've had the privilege of reading quite a few of the books pre-release. Helena Newbury, Nadia Simonenko, Tabi Wollstonecraft, and M.G. Morgan have some great dark NA coming out. Look forward to all of those!
What's your ideal writing day?
70 degrees, rainy, and no one to bother me.
And finally, a variant on that opening question: in no more than 140 characters, tell readers why they should buy your book.
To relive your broken hearts, and, maybe, your mendings, too. <3

Where I End and You Begin
by Andra Brynn
In Japan, they say there’s a red thread of fate that binds people who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. It may tangle, it may knot, it may stretch or fray, but it will never break. It is a future as indelible as the past. I hope that isn't true. I pity anyone destined to meet me.
For Bianca Ray, the past is always catching up, one way or another. Now in her third semester at college, it's doing it again. Too much drinking has led to plummeting grades and rising absences, putting her scholarships in peril. When she makes it clear that she needs help—all over the floor of her history class—she’s given one last chance to shape up: seek therapy and bring her grades up by the end of the semester, or she’s out.
Enter Catholic seminarian Daniel McGuire. The last thing Bianca wants is an aspiring priest to counsel her on how to live her life, but the handsome graduate student is different from the holy rollers she fled from at home. Gentle and unobtrusive, he helps her pick up the pieces and find a new way to live: not running from the past, but facing it head on.
But opening up her heart to release the pain means that something else can come in. As Bianca and Daniel grow closer, their relationship moves onto dangerous ground. When they finally cross the line, the fragile courage Bianca has built up threatens to fail her. Can she exorcise the ghosts of her past, or will they catch hold and drag her down where not even Daniel can reach her?
