Random Acts of Trust is the second in the Random series. The first book, Random Acts of Crazy, was a menage romance, but your new book is a traditional, male-female romance. Why?

Because when I imagined the characters of Sam and Amy and their high-school-level love, I came away with a sense that they were meant for each other. It’s that simple: I couldn’t imagine them any other way, while the characters in my first book, Random Acts of Crazy, lent themselves to a threesome romance.

What is the major theme in Random Acts of Trust?

That you aren’t bound by your parents’ secrets. In some of my earlier books I’ve explored the theme of not being forced to continue your parents’ choices – but in Random Acts of Trust, both Sam and Amy come from families with big secrets that their parents are trying desperately to keep. These family secrets dictate so much of who they are – and breaking free from that is a major theme.

The phone scene – where did you come up with that?

Ha! Readers are REALLY reacting to the scene where Amy gets her smartphone caught in her — as Darla calls it — “hoohaw.” When I first learned about vibrator apps for the iPhone, I thought it was the weirdest idea I’d ever heard. And one day, this crazy thought hit me: what if an…exuberant…woman got her phone stuck in herself while using it as a vibrator? And there you have it — the increasingly famous phone-in-the-vagina scene. It also gave me a chance to bring in Dr. Alex Derjian, a gynecologist, from my book It’s Complicated. I have a small crush on Dr. Perfect (shhhh…don’t tell anyone), and wanted to find a way to cross my series!

Why make Sam and Liam strippers?

When I was in college, one of my female roommates was a “strip-o-gram” stripper. She would go topless and she made PILES of money, but she also talked about the business itself: the “extras” some strippers would do for money, how she needed to protect herself from overly-excited customers, and so on. Sam is in a desperate bind for money, and Liam — well, Liam’s in it for the glory.
