How to Get All of Your Pitch Emails Opened and Answered

Hola12

We will in the interconnected Information Age. Never has there been a time in history with so much access and opportunity for entrepreneurs. The Internet and social media have opened doors that were previously held closed by gatekeepers. Locking in new opportunities for your business, however, still has to go through an old school — but never vanishing medium — email.

As an entrepreneur, you will send all kinds of pitch emails to a variety of people and companies. If you have ever gotten a pitch email, you realize a vast majority of these emails did not get much thought beforehand or they are copy and paste emails. You would never give these emails the time of day because there is no benefit for you. You may have even sent one or two of these emails. If you want your emails opened — and a chance to land some new opportunities for your business — here are five things you should do in the email.

1. Impactful subject line.

Start with a subject that stands out from everyone else in their inbox. Most subject lines are designed to flatter. The thought is that if you can make the person feel good about themselves, they will be more responsive to what you are asking for. In theory, this should work, but it doesn’t in the real world. When you are approaching a busy person, they scan the subject lines in their inbox. If your subject line is just like everyone else, you will quickly get passed over.

The best subject lines are specific. They come from you doing research on the person you are approaching and referencing something they have done. When you can say, “I love your work on a certain publication,” or, “I loved your thoughts on…” Your subject line stands out and is more likely to get their attention. Do some research and craft a subject line that will make the person want to click and learn more.

2. Continue the thought.

Continue the thought in the first paragraph with how you were specifically impacted. Once you have done your research and crafted a strong subject line, continue the thought in the first paragraph. Expand on the thought with how you were moved or how what they did changed you a little bit. Don’t lie and don’t exaggerate, but spend some time thinking about how what they did applies to your life. Each of us has a desire to make an impact on the world, so it’s nice when we can hear of that happening in someone’s life.

3. Be an expert.

Show that you are in expert in your industry. The second paragraph is all about showing you are someone who knows what you are talking about. You have probably gotten an email about SEO services or website work from some company you have never heard of in another country. The reason you delete that kind of email right away is because you aren’t convinced they are experts.

Use the second paragraph to talk about how you are an expert but don’t do it in a way that makes you sound like a snob. Show your work history and what you are currently doing. Show that if you are given the opportunity you are seeking, you won’t squander it with rookie mistakes.

4. Have a call to action.

The email itself should be two, maybe three paragraphs at the most. The last paragraph should be a call to action. It should tell the person what you are looking for — the next steps so to speak. Make it clear that you want what you are seeking. Be confident. Confidence is sexy and something we are drawn to as humans. Confidently say, “I want this, I will be good at this, and if given the chance, it will benefit you, too.”

5. No attachments or hyperlinks.

This should be common sense, but sadly, it’s the norm. With viruses and malicious software, it’s rare for someone to open an attachment from someone they don’t know. Do not send attachments unless the person specifically asked you to. Send everything in the body of the email whenever possible. It saves them time and is less stressful.

You can pitch and land great opportunities for your business if you approach the email in the right away. The key is to stand out from what has been done for years. Email will always be around but that doesn’t mean you can’t adopt new and better techniques. Pitch in a better way and grow your business.

$1,000 in 30 Days Online

5503731565_903bf587e6_z I sent this to my email list the other day, but the feedback was so much that I thought I would share it with the larger audience. If you would like in-depth help in getting to $1,000, check out my new class

I am currently traveling. In the last three weeks, I have been in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mexico City, Mexico, Panama City, Panama, and Medellin, Colombia. I’m in the process of scaling back and focusing only on the things I want to do in my life and business. I have scaled back one-on-one coaching, I’ve said no to speaking gigs and a few consulting contracts, and I am selective where I write. I want to use my time wisely going forward and only do the things that get me towards my biggest life goals.

The First $1,000 Online

If you are just starting out, I’m glad you are reading this. If you have been at this for a while but haven’t made money, I am also glad you are reading this. Making money online is not easy but it also isn’t hard. Too many dreamers start an online business and give up before they get to real income. I remember being excited about selling a $4.97 eBook. Five years later, I signed a $15,000 speaking contract this past week.

First, you need someone to try to sell to. You may be saying, “Duh,” but the most common reason why an online business doesn’t grow is because there is no audience. Even if your audience is small, you can still make some money. For the purposes of what I am teaching today, let’s say your audience is zero. Get your first few email subscribers from your social networks. Go on all the social networks and tell your friends about the new venture you are starting and all the free goodies they’ll get when they sign up for your email list. You can also write a compelling post and try to share it on large traffic sites such as Reddit or Stumbled Upon.

You can get even better and targeted subscribers by landing a guest post on a small to medium size blog—don’t do after the big boys just yet. You can also leverage large media publications (which I teach about a lot) but that will take a few weeks. The point is to get your first 50 to 100 people on your email list. With those numbers, you can get to $1,000.

Next, after you have a few people to market to, you have to add value. No one will buy from you if they can’t see how you can help them. You give value from the free content you put out. That can be blog posts, videos, or podcasts. The value always comes before the sale. Show people through your free content that you want to help and have the knowledge to do it.

Next, you have to figure out what you’re going to sell and how many different options can get you to $500. The quickest way is through services such as coaching. If you are starting out, you’ll probably charge around $100 an hour. Get one client or five to pay you $100 and you get to $500. The next quickest way is through a class. You have probably seen me advertise my Exposure through Large Publication’s class.

The class is $497. If you had a class that was that price or close, you could get to $1,000 easily. If you want to know how to structure a class, check out the page for my exposure class. This go-around, I limited the class to 30 and 24 people have already signed up. You can do the math but that gets you to $1,000. Other than these two ways, there are some longer-term ways such as a membership website or a course, but those are going to take a ton of time to put together.
Lastly, after you have some people to talk to, have given them value, and know what you want to sell, you then have to market what you are selling. You can do that as I am doing here in this newsletter, you can host a webinar and upsell at the end, or you can run social media ads to a sales page. But, you won’t make the first $1,000 if you don’t sell.

You can do this. You can get to $1,000 and beyond. Use the first $1,000 to scale your dream business/lifestyle to something more. Again, if you need help, check out my new class.

What Being Homeless Taught Me About Life

yo

As soon as I heard the bottle break, I instantly jumped up. Living on the streets you learn to sleep lightly in case someone wants to harm you. I was staying in a rougher part of Milwaukee where a couple of other homeless kids were raped. I didn’t want to be there but it was the only area where I knew the police wouldn’t bother me.

A homeless man was high and had dropped his beer but I couldn’t fall back asleep at that point. I had been homeless for about two weeks and I was just getting adjusted to my new reality. As I sat on the cold sidewalk, I thought about all the hopes and dreams I had—they were now out the window. My only goal at that point was survival.

I grew up in a deeply religious home and when I couldn’t follow a lot of the legalistic rules, I was thrown out of an abusive home at 17 years old. The first few days on the streets I didn’t think I would make it. I thought about committing suicide and just ending all the misery I was feeling. It was another kid who showed me the ropes and gave me a little bit of hope. He would end up being killed four months later.

After two weeks, I realized I was the only one who could help me. If I was going to get off the streets, I had to do something. I went to every company I could find and applied for a job. I ended up getting three jobs in a two-week period. None of them paid well, but it was much needed income. I started the process of overcoming my situation.

Life Lessons

I did make enough money to get my own place and off the streets. I did make enough money to go back and get my GED. I would go on to work fourteen different jobs that paid well enough over the years but were not even close to my dream. I lived in survival mode for over 15 years before my circumstances would again force my hand.

Today, life is fairly good. I have some issues to work out but I’m happy to wake up every day living out my dream. A conversation with a good friend made me realize that I haven’t thought about the days of being homeless in too long. I have glossed over the experience—probably because it was so painful. But, that time in my life shaped who I am and how I show up in this world.

You have to rely on you. In life, you will need help. You will need family, friends, a good mastermind group, and support. But, at the end of the day, you have to rely on you. There is an inner strength in each of us and you have to tap into that during the hard times. You have to be the best version of yourself physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. You are the only one who can physically take the actions that help you get there.

You can’t let your thoughts consume you. Our minds can be a wonderful and scary place. You can play out entire scenarios in your mind that aren’t true. When you are dealing with difficult situations, you play out things in your mind that may not be true and may never come true. You have to be the master of your thoughts and keep them in check when you feel them getting out of control.

You deserve better. Difficult situations make us feel like we’re crap. We start to believe we don’t deserve to be happy, but it’s just a lie. You deserve happiness and tranquility in your life. You deserve to overcome what is holding you back. You deserve to live a life of freedom.

It’s going to be a hard road back. During the time when I overcome being on the streets, and even today, I am finding this truth out. It is not easy to get back or even to a better place. In our minds, we know it’s hard, but we fail to remember that during the rebuilding journey. Know going into this that this will probably be one of the hardest things you do in your life.

I was on the streets for three months. Not a long time in the grand scheme of things, but it was long enough to live every day terrified of what could happen to me. I overcame that and so much to get to where I am today. It feels good to spend time remembering and letting those memories empower me to keep pushing forward.

No matter where you are or what you’re going through, know there is hope.

In a couple of weeks, my signature class, Exposure through Large Publications will start (July 19th). This go-around, the material will be deeper and more specific based off of what I have learned getting over 300 people into 14 different publications. Because of the depth I will get into, I’m limiting how many people can take the class to 30. There are 10 spots left.

If you are interested in writing for the largest websites in the world and leveraging the exposure for book sales, building a HUGE email list, booking paid speaking, booking consulting at companies, creating a sustainable online business, and much more, private message me or email at kconstable29@gmail.com. Details on the class here:http://stopchasinginfluencers.com/large-publications/

Why My Marriage Ended and How Life Fell Apart

196658877_71731581f9_z This is going to be a very hard article to write and release publicly but I know it is necessary. There have been a ton of rumors about me in the last two months. It’s time to tell my side of what happened. I have always kept it real over these last five years and that is what I will do here.

2015 was a breakthrough year in my business. Because I wrote for some of the largest websites in the world, I started getting a crazy amount of offers to speak at conferences and companies all over the world. I traveled over 250,000 miles in 2015 to speak. My business grew by 125% very quickly. It should have been exciting, but it was all too fast, and it burnt me out.

As I started to travel more to speak, the distance affected my marriage. I had spent 16 years always being with the same person, having to spend extended times away brought out jealousy, anger, frustration, temptation, money struggles, lying, and MANY fights. Over a three-year period, I watched my marriage crumble and I was too proud to do anything about it.

By the time I went back to Hawaii in early January of this year (2016), the marriage was over. It was very awkward and there was a realization on both sides that what we once had was now over. It would have been nice if things had ended civilly, but they didn’t. If you follow me online, you have seen a variety of attacks on all the publications I write for, on this blog (it was even hacked), and in every part of my business. My coaching clients were contacted and lies were spread, the publications were contacted, and there were a bunch of lies on social media.

In mid-January, I went back to Panama to train at a company. As I left, we agreed that the marriage was over and that each of us would try to move on and put all our focus on the kids. I went to Panama to train for a month. I did not expect to do anything but work. During the third week of training, I met someone. I went out for dinner with friends at the company and I was introduced to what I thought was a nice woman.

We started a friendship that grew into a relationship by late February. I want to make something very clear, we did NOT have sex. I did NOT leave my wife for this woman. There was NO overlap. Yes, the timing is too close for comfort (more on that in a bit), but it was AFTER my marriage was over—after both of us agreed it was over. I was in a relationship with this woman for five months. The relationship is now over and sadly, it ended very badly.

I want to explain something. Ever since I was 15 years old, I have been in relationships—I have NEVER had any time being single. When my marriage ended, I was looking for what I was very used to experiencing. I wanted that feeling of being with someone long term. I wanted that comfort. I jumped into a very unhealthy relationship right away. WAY too soon for where I was at emotionally.

That relationship is what caused me to be depressed and in a funk for two months. I thought I was madly in love with this woman and she took advantage of that. Let’s just say my wallet is a lot lighter now. The woman even beat me up after I ended the relationship-like literally punched and choked me. I made MANY stupid decisions in the name of love. I wish I could go back and do things over, but that is not a reality.

As of today, I am single, living in Medellin, Colombia. My kids are in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I plan to spend a lot of time there. I miss my kids more than anything in this world. I stay here in Medellin because I have a consulting contract with a company here and the cost of living is VERY low. I like life here. It is a good place for me to heal and learn how to love myself again.

The Rumors

Let me address the rumors. NO. I did not leave my family penniless in Hawaii. I was the one that was penniless because of a deceitful woman. I had to trick my wife out of money just to survive.

I did not leave my wife for another woman. The relationship started after the marriage was over. NO. I did not get married. Check the web, call the embassies, and check far and wide. I am not married to anyone outside of the marriage you know about and I have written about. We are currently going through a nasty divorce.

At this point, I am recovering from everything. I am trying to rebuild everything I let fall apart when I was so focused on an unhealthy relationship. I am focused on my kids, my clients, and anyone who reads my stuff. I still have a goal to change this world for the better.

I am sure there are many questions. I try to keep it real. Ask questions in the comments and I will answer honestly. If there are any of my ex’s people trying to derail the conversation, I will delete them from my blog.

Yes, I am still qualified to help you despite a failed marriage and some VERY stupid decisions. I still know and understand the tactical side of all of this. I also have a new perspective on relationships. A lot more to come on that in future posts.

Questions?

Are You Ready to Quit Your Job?

6163800137_fa141873a6_z

For years, I dreamed of the day when I would tell my employer I was tired and done, and leaving for a dream work situation. This dream was just my dreams until I realized that I was going to have to take action if my dream were ever going to become a reality. It took two and a half years, but I was able to quit. I now live a life I mostly love.

I know that are many people who read my blog, and in general in society today, that would love to quit a job they hate. Many do quit but do it prematurely and risk turning their dream into a nightmare. I have had new coaching clients come to me when they quit without a plan; it is not a place of strength. Before you quit your job, make sure you have a foundation of these four things.

1. Have an emergency fund in place that can get you through most unexpected circumstances.

The stats on Americans and emergency funds are scary. Most emergencies would wipe the average person out. If you are thinking about quitting a job, the emergency fund should be even larger than the standard. You should have an emergency fund that withstands the inconsistency in income that sometimes comes from owning a business—especially a lifestyle business.

I can’t tell you what the magic number is, I can only tell you to be prepared for anything. Having a strong mindset is important, but that doesn’t mean you ignore common sense. I’m not telling you to wait until you are a millionaire, but I am saying have something to fall back on.

2. Have a proven and consistent income situation in place.

Just because you make a couple of bucks for a few months doesn’t mean you have a proven lifestyle business. This kind of business can be a roller coaster ride if you don’t know what you are doing. You can make a lot of money quickly and make nothing the next month.

Make sure your lifestyle business has a track record of making money for more than just a few months. Make sure that you have multiple streams of income. Don’t be dependent on any one thing for your income or you could be in a bad place if that one thing vanishes. Let your lifestyle business prove itself before you quit your job.

3. Have a clear plan for growth each year.

In addition to already making money, you need a plan to grow the dream. What works today doesn’t mean it will work tomorrow. You need to be diverse and think of your business as a business. Spend some time planning marketing strategies that will bring new business. Spend time planning how you can diversify your income even more.

4. Don’t get lazy.

You work very hard when building a dream on the side. You need to keep that same work ethic even after you are living the dream. You can get tired and frustrated on this journey. You can take a break. You can regroup and re-plan, but never get lazy.

Life would be great if everything worked out just like it does in the movies, but that’s not a reality. You have to be smart before you do something that could ruin your life or the life of your family. Have a strong foundation in place and then quit your job for something you’ve always dreamed of doing. It took years, but I did it. I am confident you can, too.

Are you working on quitting your job?

P.S. I had no wifi yesterday in my home in Medellin, Colombia. This meant that I could not host my Lifestyle Business 101 Masterclass. The class will now be three hours and on Tuesday night, June 14th. Everyone who takes the class will now have access to all of the samples documents and PDF’s.

The class will teach you how to write for large publications, how to book paid speaking, how to book consulting at companies, and how to create consistent and scalable income in your lifestyle business. If you want to take the class or just get the recording and docs, email me at kconstable29@gmail.com for next steps.

My Website Got Hacked

12370999_922142641204507_3909197481275068814_o

I got an email the other night from my website with a new post. The problem was I didn’t write or release the post. Someone used my actual login to access my website and send out a malicious post. The post was pretty sad and my real readers knew right away it was not from me.

I wish I could tell you that it was a stranger, but sadly, it was probably someone working with a person I used to be in a relationship with. I had made a cheat sheet of all my passwords and logins in case I died. My guess is that is how my website was accessed.

The last two months have been hard. It has involved the end of a relationship, attacks on my reputation with half-truths and outright lies, deep depression, financial loss, and more. I thought I had gotten to a place of being civil, but I guess I was wrong.

Be Real

The one thing that has saved me is I have built and open and honest business over the last five years. I have always tried to be transparent and real with what I am going through. Many people know me. They were there in the beginning and have watched this whole process.

It is hard to be real. You worry about what people will think about you and you worry about losing people. But, people respect you much more when you are not afraid to tell it how it is. They will respect you when you are willing to admit that you are human and are going through some things.

I will continue to be real. I wish I could break down exactly what did and is happening, but I could get in trouble legally, so I can only share bits and pieces. I can tell you that I now live in Medellin, Colombia, and my life is a lot different. I am very happy as I write this.

I still write, speak, coach, and consult. I still work hard to help people make their dreams a reality. I still want to help you build a business and life you love. I won’t change that part of my life.

The lesson that I hope you take away is that life is complicated. Sometimes things happen that are out of your control, but you control how you react. You have to control your reactions and not let them derail your progress. Know that there will always be people who want to bring you down. Some people have no life and nothing better to do, so they want to hurt what you are doing. Those people will go nowhere in life—don’t let them win.
