Garment District Arts Festival

Art in the Garment District NYC
Excited to be a part of the 2018 Garment District Arts Festival in NYC. 

From October 18-20, the Festival celebrates art in the Garment District with gallery exhibitions, open studios, receptions, art experiences and public installations.

I am one of twelve artists who are part of Makers Way - a free, interactive art experience taking place on Saturday October 20 outside on Broadway between 39th and 40th Streets in Manhattan. Between the hours of 11am and 5pm I will be doing make and takes using the Gelli Plate.

The Exquisite Corpse: Part I

I recently had the pleasure of co-teaching a five-day workshop with Holly Dean in Burritt's Rapids, Ontario - just outside of Ottawa. The workshop was originally called The Exquisite Corpse...but almost nobody signed up. We changed the name to Lovely Creatures and filled the seats.
Burritt's Rapids is a small town that was quaint and peaceful. We taught at the community center and couldn't be happier with the space.


It was hot outside but nice and cool on the inside. And we were able to provide everybody with their own table - always a bonus at a workshop.

The concept of the Exquisite Corpse is based on an old parlor game, later popularized by a group of surrealist artists. Three people participate and draw on the same piece of paper - without seeing what the other has drawn. One draws a head, one a torso, and one a set of legs. The drawing is then unfolded and hilarity ensues. Here is an example, completed with a group of local artists after the workshop ended. I drew the torso.

For our workshop, we put a twist of this concept. Every participant made a seven-page, flip book divided vertically into three equal sections - one each for heads, torsos and legs. Everybody also made their own box to house the book. For the images, we used collage pieces rather than drawings.

We painted, ink, embossed, and collaged. Here are some pages in progress.

It has been so exciting to see what all you creative people out there are doing with Baked Texture, my new embossing powder for artists from Emerald Creek. My hope with these powders was that people would find non-traditional ways to use them. And you haven't disappointed.

Linda Cain is an absolute magician and alchemist with Baked Texture. Among her many creations are embellishments which ultimately find a home in her artwork. Take a look and be amazed....

Linda Cain I'd swear that these were old metal pieces rather than chipboard covered by Linda with Baked Texture. She used Ancient Amber, Deep Sea and Patina Oxide.
And look at what she has done with Vintage Beeswax.
Here she has mixed Patina Oxide and Chunky Rust
These beads were first painted with my PaperArtsy paints in Midnight, Terracotta and Mahogany, then rolled in ink and covered with a variety of Baked Texture.
A blend of my PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics and Baked Textures.
Clearly Linda is a master at pumping up the volume by using Baked Texture on embellishments. But she is also a whiz at... 
...creating surface texture with Baked Texture, mixing Dirty Sand with micro beads and glass glitter...
...traditional stamp effects, here using Chunky Rust.

Passport to Creativity

I am honored and thrilled to be featured in the Fall 2018 issue of Creative Scrapbooker, a paper crafting magazine from Canada. 

Along with Gina Krupsky, owner of Gina K. Designs, I am included in the Passport to Creativity section.
