“Deceitful Love” – An Italian Thriller with Dramatic Touches and Sentimental Undertones on Netflix
“Deceitful Love” is an Italian miniseries starring Monica Guerritore and Giacomo Gianniotti.
“Deceitful Love” is a thriller that transports us to the realms of classic cinema, set against the picturesque backdrop of the Italian coast. The series revolves around a woman who falls in love with a young fortune hunter who seemingly appears out of nowhere to seduce her. This young man, however, leaves a trail of substantial debts behind him, and the entire family vehemently opposes the mother’s new suitor.
About the Series“Deceitful Love” aims to be a classic series throughout, relying heavily on the story and characters rather than on any unique or consistent cinematic craftsmanship. The series places a greater emphasis on family dynamics and character development rather than the staging, adhering to the conventional television thriller tropes in its storytelling approach. Had it incorporated a richer cinematic content, “Deceitful Love” might have been slightly more compelling.
Nonetheless, every story has its audience, and this one undoubtedly will too. If you enjoy family dramas, tales filled with secrets, and narratives with a dramatic inclination, “Deceitful Love” might appeal to you. The characters are well-defined, and the series maintains a good balance in its ensemble storytelling.
Each episode delivers a narrative surprise and unfolds around the pivotal event that sets everything in motion: a woman entering into a serious romance with a young man who aims to take her money. From this point, the plot delves into family dynamics, their dramas, and ongoing financial issues. Rest assured, this is not a soap opera; it is a thriller imbued with some elements of melodrama but primarily driven by suspense and intrigue. It does not, however, indulge in elaborate cinematic or aesthetic arguments.
Our OpinionWhile not the best series on Netflix, “Deceitful Love” will likely be entertaining for a certain audience seeking a thriller with dramatic undertones. It succeeds in its aim to entertain without harboring lofty ambitions of becoming a landmark in cinematic history.
In conclusion, “Deceitful Love” offers a blend of drama, suspense, and well-rounded characters, making it a suitable watch for those interested in family-oriented thrillers. With a narrative filled with twists and turns, it ensures an engaging viewing experience, even if it doesn’t break new ground in the genre.

“Ali Wong: Single Lady” – Stand-up on Netflix: Recently Divorced? This Comedy Special Will Feel Incredibly Relatable
Ali Wong stars in “Single Lady” is a Netflix stand-up special.
The delightful Ali Wong takes the stage in Los Angeles with her latest stand-up comedy special, tackling a subject that has become all too common in today’s society: divorce. Ali Wong, who went through a divorce herself in 2022, now shares her post-divorce journey with audiences, recounting the series of hilariously awkward and often cringe-worthy dates that followed that life-altering experience.
What happens to us after a divorce? The dating world suddenly feels alien, and we all encounter bizarre and eccentric characters along the way. Ali Wong’s charming and witty storytelling transforms these encounters into comedic gold, making the otherwise daunting and sometimes painful process of navigating post-divorce life seem genuinely funny.
“Single Lady” is a collection of humorous anecdotes delivered with a keen sense of irony and wit. In today’s world, many of us have endured a divorce that ranged from mildly unsettling to downright traumatic. Most of us have, to some extent, attempted to rebuild our lives within the often perplexing realm of modern dating.

“The Radleys” – A Unique Vampire Comedy
“The Radleys,” directed by Euros Lyn and starring Damian Lewis and Kelly MacDonald, is a distinctive comedy that offers a fresh take on the vampire genre. This British production by Sky arrives without much fanfare or controversy, yet it presents an intriguing central concept: a seemingly typical suburban bourgeois family that, beneath the surface, is actually a family of vampires. This premise naturally leads to fascinating psychological challenges for the two adolescent members of the family who, deep down, feel different from everyone else—because they are.
“The Radleys” stands out as a lighthearted comedy that avoids extravagant situations and doesn’t aim to push viewers out of their comfort zones. In fact, its charm lies in doing the opposite: starting from an extravagant and fantastical scenario (vampires) and bringing it into the comfortable, familiar world of British middle-class life.

“The Radleys” deserves praise for crafting an original and distinctive comedy. Does it succeed as a comedy? It might not satisfy comedy purists who believe that a comedy’s primary purpose is to provoke laughter. It’s possible that “The Radleys” was never intended to be a side-splitting comedy, but rather a nuanced exploration of social maladaptation, using the vampire motif to delve into the realm of social and cultural comedy. Will it appeal to fans of this genre? Probably not, since “The Radleys” aims to be more of an experimental piece and a challenge to societal norms than the conventional vampire movie one might expect.
The film cleverly engages with the audience by consistently subverting expectations and establishing an interesting interplay of genres. This, at the very least, makes it an intriguing experiment worth noting. The movie features commendable performances from all its cast members, maintains a deliberate pace, and is well-executed with a solid script. However, and we must emphasize this, it may not resonate with everyone due to its metaphorical layers and the primary narrative experiment it undertakes.
Our OpinionIs it worth giving “The Radleys” a chance? If you’re looking for a traditional vampire movie, the answer is no—you’ll likely be disappointed. If you’re in search of a comedy that will leave you in stitches, again, this film might not be for you. However, if you’re open to something different, a film with an unusual message and a distinctive approach, “The Radleys” offers a worthwhile opportunity to experience a unique cinematic endeavor.

David Zwirner’s October Highlights in London: Frieze London and Oscar Murillo’s Exhibition
David Zwirner is delighted to announce its participation in the twenty-first edition of Frieze London, taking place this October.
At the London gallery, visitors will have the opportunity to experience “A Balancing Act Between Collapse and Spirit,” Oscar Murillo’s eighth solo exhibition at David Zwirner and his third at the London venue. This new body of work follows Murillo’s installation, “The Flooded Garden,” showcased in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern during the summer.
At Frieze London, located at Booth D13, David Zwirner will present new paintings by Rose Wylie in celebration of the artist’s ninetieth birthday. Additionally, new and historic works by Steven Shearer will be prominently featured, including paintings and works on paper, in a specially dedicated section of the booth. The gallery will also exhibit pieces by notable artists such as Francis Alÿs, Katherine Bernhardt, Joe Bradley, Noah Davis, Marcel Dzama, Sasha Gordon, Barbara Kruger, Yayoi Kusama, Chris Ofili, Walter Price, Thomas Ruff, Wolfgang Tillmans, Jordan Wolfson, and Lisa Yuskavage.
David Zwirner will showcase four new paintings by Rose Wylie, including a diptych titled “Lilith and Gucci Boy” (2024). According to mythology, Lilith was created from the same clay as Adam and was expelled from the Garden of Eden for defying her husband, subsequently demonized. Wylie’s diptych honors Lilith’s defiance by inscribing “the first feminist” across the panels. The portrayal of Lilith here is inspired by a drawing Wylie made of the Queen of the Night relief, an ancient Babylonian terra-cotta plaque housed in the British Museum’s collection.
Steven Shearer will receive focused attention in a specially designed room by the artist. This presentation will feature nineteen works on paper and two paintings, highlighting the diversity of Shearer’s extensive archive of thousands of images and clippings. Themes such as sleep, which recur throughout his oeuvre, will be explored. The faces, figures, and objects in Shearer’s compositions are composites of those he has encountered, with his drawing practice serving as a laboratory for experimenting with various styles and mediums.
The gallery will also debut a new painting by Sasha Gordon, a recent addition to the gallery who is co-represented with Matthew Brown. The painting, titled “Cyclops” (2024), is part of an ongoing series that narrates the origin stories of the alternative universes depicted in Gordon’s work. The composition shows Gordon’s avatar crouching naked, wearing only nude slingback heels, in a wood-paneled interior. Deviating from her usual expressive self-portraits, this work features her face obscured by dark hair, with only one eye visible, staring out at the viewer. Gordon is set to have a solo exhibition at the gallery’s 19th Street location in New York in September 2025.
One of the final paintings by American artist Noah Davis (1983–2015), titled “Untitled” (2015), will also be on view. The painting is based on a found photograph, a common source for Davis’s work. It depicts a man reclining on a bed, his face blurred as if fading from memory. Barbican Art Gallery is set to open the largest institutional survey of Davis’s work to date in February 2025, featuring over fifty works that span his career. This major touring exhibition will provide a comprehensive overview of Davis’s extraordinary practice in painting, curating, and community-building as the cofounder of The Underground Museum. The exhibition is currently on view at DAS MINSK, Potsdam, and will travel to the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles later in 2025.
A postcard-sized painting by Francis Alÿs titled “Kharkiv, Ukraine” (2023) will also be featured. Since 2011, Alÿs has been examining the role of the artist in war, whether embedded with soldiers or among civilians in cities or temporary camps. This painting, created in Kharkiv, Ukraine, depicts a partially destroyed building with a lone bicyclist in the foreground, rendered in muted grey tones that underscore the daily reality of life in a war-torn region. Alÿs was recently the subject of a major solo exhibition titled “Ricochets” at Barbican Art Gallery, his largest institutional show in the UK in nearly fifteen years. The exhibition presented Alÿs’s critically acclaimed series “Children’s Games” (1999–) alongside a significant new body of work.
The gallery will also present four new paintings by Walter Price, who joined David Zwirner in May this year. Among the works on view will be “Yo clown ass think you can walk on water too huh?” (2024), the central piece in a series featuring clown motifs and a varied blue palette. The azures, aquamarines, cobalts, turquoises, and ceruleans evoke a range of emotions from sadness to the whimsical, and connect to art-historical blue periods or the endless expanses of water and sky. David Zwirner will debut Price’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, titled “Pearl Lines,” opening on November 16, 2024.
A new painting by Chris Ofili, “Waterfall—showers” (2022–2024), will also be exhibited. In this work, the satyr—a usually marginal figure in Greek mythology—takes center stage, embracing a female companion in front of a waterfall. The couple is cloaked from view by a radiant lattice of colorful orbs that flood the composition, resembling divine rainfall. Ofili’s commission for Tate Britain, “Requiem,” a mural on the museum’s North Staircase, was unveiled in 2023 and will remain on extended view for ten years. Spanning three walls, this major site-specific work pays tribute to fellow artist Khadija Saye and commemorates the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy.
Barbara Kruger will also have a new work on display. “Untitled (How dare you not be me)” (2024) relates to a large-scale vinyl wall installation that debuted at the 2024 exhibition “David Zwirner: 30 Years,” celebrating the opening of the gallery’s Los Angeles location. The phrase “How dare you not be me” also appeared as an inscription on a metal floor plaque at Kruger’s notable 1994 exhibition at Mary Boone Gallery, New York. Serpentine South opened “Thinking of You. I Mean Me. I Mean You.” in February 2024, marking Kruger’s first solo institutional show in London in over twenty years.

The Georg Solti Accademia Commemorates 20 Years of Excellence with a Star-Studded Gala Concert
The Georg Solti Accademia is elated to announce its 20th anniversary celebration, commemorating two decades of unparalleled excellence in nurturing young talent in the technique and style of Italian “Bel Canto.” This milestone not only celebrates the Accademia’s commitment to continuing the operatic legacy of the legendary British-Hungarian conductor Sir Georg Solti but also underscores its significant impact on the world of classical music.
The gala concert, set for October 20th, 2024, will feature performances by distinguished alumni: mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina, tenor Freddie De Tommaso, soprano Hera Hyesang Park, and baritone Paul Grant. This special event, co-produced with the Hungarian State Opera and backed by the Accademia’s principal sponsor, Rolex, promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime gathering of these exceptional artists. The Hungarian State Opera’s orchestra and conductor will also contribute to this extraordinary evening.
For these four celebrated singers, this concert in Budapest marks a rare convergence to honor the Accademia’s 20-year journey and its pivotal role in shaping their artistic development and successful careers.
The Georg Solti Accademia: A Premier Training Ground for Aspiring Opera Singers and Répétiteurs
Over the past two decades, the Georg Solti Accademia has established itself as a premier institution for emerging opera singers and répétiteurs—pianists, vocal coaches, and conductors integral to opera productions. Led by Jonathan Papp (Artistic Director, Principal Vocal Coach, and Founder), Candice Wood (Executive Director and Founder), and Jonathan Lakeland (Associate Director), the Accademia boasts over 400 alumni who have gone on to enjoy flourishing careers in the music industry.
The Accademia’s guest faculty, both past and present, comprises some of the world’s most revered musicians, including Richard Bonynge, Angela Gheorghiu, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Frederica Von Stade, Carlo Rizzi, Leo Nucci, Sir Thomas Allen, and Jose Carreras, among many others.
Founded in 2004 by the late Lady Valerie Solti, Candice Wood, and Jonathan Papp, the Georg Solti Accademia fulfills Georg Solti’s long-held dream of creating a training program for outstanding young musicians in Italy. “I believe Sir Georg would be immensely proud to see an institution in his name that strives for the highest levels of excellence and provides exceptional guidance from some of the world’s finest faculty,” says Jonathan Papp.
The Accademia conducts its annual “Bel Canto Course for Singers” in the picturesque Tuscan seaside town of Castiglione Della Pescaia, where the Solti family owns a home. Additionally, the spring “Solti-Peretti Répétiteur Course” takes place at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice. Importantly, the Georg Solti Accademia offers full scholarships, covering tuition and accommodation costs, to all its students.
Beyond its annual courses in Italy, the Accademia maintains long-standing relationships with major international organizations. It has presented masterclasses and concerts at esteemed venues such as Juilliard, Carnegie Hall, Chicago Symphony Center, Wigmore Hall, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Notably, in the summer of 2024, the Accademia held its Bel Canto Course for Singers in Seoul, in collaboration with the Seoul Arts Center.
Collaboration with the Hungarian State Opera and Connection to Solti
This event holds even greater significance as it is co-produced with the Hungarian State Opera, which recently celebrated its 140th anniversary. This remarkable opera house shares a profound connection with Maestro Georg Solti, who commenced his professional musical career there as a répétiteur. Solti made his conducting debut at the house with a performance of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” on March 11, 1938.
“Before Lady Solti passed away, she envisioned the Accademia establishing a relationship with the Hungarian State Opera, recognizing its poignant link to Maestro Solti’s life and achievements,” says Candice Wood. “We are absolutely thrilled to present this concert in collaboration with the house and to celebrate the Accademia’s achievements and the Solti legacy through this performance. We hope this event marks the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship with the opera and other distinguished performing arts organizations in Hungary.”
UNESCO Designation for “Bel Canto”In December 2023, UNESCO officially recognized Italian “Bel Canto” as an item of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, celebrating the rich tradition and cultural significance of this art form. “Bel Canto” encompasses the Italian opera style, vocal technique, and repertoire from approximately 1810 to the early 20th century.
The Georg Solti Accademia remains the only institution dedicated to furthering training in the Italian “Bel Canto” style, repertoire, and vocal technique, utilizing this music as a pedagogical tool for vocal training. This prestigious UNESCO designation underscores the importance of the Accademia’s work in preserving and promoting this unique singing tradition for future generations.
About Bel Canto, Jonathan Papp remarks, “The fundamental importance of Bel Canto Singing and its role in underpinning any good opera singing cannot be overstated. Studying this style and technique equips singers to perform any repertoire in any language, providing a healthy foundation that ensures longevity in their careers.”
Live Broadcast to Reach Global Audiences
Recognizing the significance of this moment for classical music enthusiasts worldwide, the Accademia is collaborating with Decca and Deutsche Grammophon to produce a live broadcast of the concert on their Stage+ platform. Additionally, plans are underway to broadcast the program globally in the months following the concert.
“This concert broadcast offers an opportunity to showcase the extraordinary talents of Aigul, Freddie, Hera, and Paul to a global audience,” says Jonathan Lakeland, Associate Director of the Accademia and producer of the broadcast. “At the Accademia, we are committed to helping our students and alumni develop artistry and careers that align with the realities of today’s opera world. This broadcast not only helps our alumni further their careers but also raises awareness of the Accademia’s work. We aim for the home audience to feel immersed in the ambiance of this evening in Budapest, moved by the performances of these exceptional musicians, and more connected to their stories and the story of the Georg Solti Accademia.”
In celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Georg Solti Accademia continues to affirm its role as a beacon of excellence in the world of classical music, nurturing the next generation of opera talent while honoring the enduring legacy of Sir Georg Solti.

Blumhouse Horror Film “Speak No Evil”: A Remake That Mirrors and Diverges From the Original
“Speak No Evil” is an intriguing horror film directed by James Watkins, featuring a talented cast including James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy, and Aisling Franciosi. This film is a remake of the Danish movie “Speak No Evil,” which garnered significant attention a few years ago. Blumhouse, renowned for its expertise in producing remakes, has brought us “Speak No Evil.” While it retains the essence of the original, it elevates the production quality and introduces numerous changes that make it a distinct entity, though both films are commendable for their respective virtues.
The film “Speak No Evil” begins with an ambitious premise: to strip away the narrative chaos that characterized the original—its most significant virtue—and infuse the story with a Hollywood flair while maintaining its core of extreme cruelty and brutality. How can one alter the essence of a script while essentially narrating the same story? The answer lies in the execution.
Plot OverviewThe story unfolds during a vacation in Italy, where two married couples meet and form a bond over shared interests. Each couple has a child, and the major difference is that one couple is American, while the other is British. This cultural disparity sets the stage for underlying tension. What starts as minor “friction” escalates dramatically when the American couple discovers a shocking secret about their British counterparts.
About the FilmAlthough “Speak No Evil” appears similar to its predecessor, it introduces several variations. Without delving into spoilers, the original featured a Danish couple and a Dutch couple, while the remake juxtaposes British and American couples. The pacing and narrative style also diverge significantly between the two films. “Speak No Evil” leans more towards a dark horror thriller, whereas the Danish film embraced a more brutal horror approach. The remake tempers the more violent elements, favoring a subtler production that aligns better with mainstream audience sensibilities, who might find the original’s cold and gritty approach too excessive.
Does the film suffer by omitting the most original aspects of its predecessor? “Speak No Evil” charts its own course, offering a fresh perspective: transforming a family drama into a horror narrative that captivates the audience without crossing the line into excess, as the Danish film did. The film skillfully builds suspense from mundane situations, gradually revealing its darker elements. However, it falls short of showcasing the brutal and paranoid intensity that the Danish production achieved.
“Speak No Evil” succeeds in softening a harsh story, steering it towards the realm of horror cinema, and ultimately reminding viewers that it is a genre film designed for entertainment, without aspiring to transcend its category. Both films present valid yet contrasting visions with different objectives.
Our Opinion“Speak No Evil” is a film that, while seemingly similar with a different façade, offers a unique take on the same narrative. The true distinction between the two films is unveiled only at the climax. This version stands as a testament to how a story can be retold with different nuances and still maintain its core appeal. While it may not match the brutal intensity of the original, it compensates with a more polished production and a broader appeal, making it a noteworthy addition to the horror genre.

“CTRL” Movie on Netflix: A Bollywood-style Comedy Intertwined with AI and Thriller Elements
“CTRL” is a movie directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and starring Ananya Panday.
Now streaming on Netflix is a captivating comedy-thriller featuring Ananya Panday, titled “CTRL”. This film masterfully deceives its audience, perhaps to an excessive degree: what begins as a conventional comedy gradually morphs into a gripping thriller revolving around artificial intelligence, omnipotent software corporations, and the murky waters of data espionage. This genre-blending piece effortlessly transitions from a light-hearted romantic comedy to a suspenseful thriller in the blink of an eye. It’s a movie that ensures viewers have an engaging and thoroughly entertaining experience. Well-crafted with a narrative that, while familiar, feels incredibly relevant today.
Plot SummaryThe story kicks off with a classic romantic premise: a girl meets a boy, and they fall deeply in love. They’ve been inseparable since their teenage years, knowing no other life until she catches her boyfriend in a compromising situation with a friend, leading to a breakup. In an attempt to erase him from her personal life, she enlists the help of a sophisticated AI capable of managing personal systems. This marks the beginning of a plot teeming with software intrigue, espionage, and social media manipulation.
About the Movie“CTRL” is a compelling thriller, albeit somewhat generic. The film adheres to all the tropes of a romantic comedy in its first half, delivering yet another enjoyable romantic comedy. However, it abruptly shifts into a thriller, albeit a fairly standard one, focusing on software and private data control. The transition is jarring and feels almost contrived. The initial comedic segment is amusing, but the film quickly takes on a more serious tone with global implications, drawing striking parallels to the tactics employed by some of today’s tech giants.
While “CTRL” may not be groundbreaking in its originality, it effectively highlights the perils of modern technology in an entertaining and thought-provoking manner. It successfully keeps the audience engaged, transforming from fun to suspenseful. Although it doesn’t offer new insights or revelations, it fulfills its primary objective of providing entertainment. The film doesn’t break new ground but achieves its goal of keeping viewers hooked from start to finish, blending humor and intrigue in a seamless fashion.

“It’s What’s Inside” on Netflix: A Mind-Bending Thriller About Body-Swapping
“It’s What’s Inside” is a movie written and directed by Greg Jardin starring Brittany O’Grady, James Morosini, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Devon Terrell.
Arriving on Netflix is “It’s What’s Inside,” a thriller that, while not destined to become the film of the century, will certainly push you out of your comfort zone and into a fascinating, thrilling, and perplexing enigma: what would you do if you had the ability to transport yourself into someone else’s body?
“It’s What’s Inside” is a movie that boasts excellent direction and an innovative approach, transforming the usual narrative of friends reuniting into something captivating, exotic, and refreshingly different. This film excels in its editing, sound design, and direction, delivering an immensely gratifying experience from an idea that, in less skilled hands, might have been far less compelling. It is a thriller that masterfully manipulates confusion, intrigue, and deception. Even though it only moderately achieves its purpose, it knows exactly how to entertain. Moreover, it does so with a contemporary flair.
PlotThe story revolves around a group of friends who come together before one of them gets married. One friend brings along a game featuring cutting-edge technology that allows them to swap bodies and experience life through each other’s eyes for a few minutes.
About the FilmThe film’s staging is commendable, presenting an original take by blending various elements. It skillfully mixes thriller, mystery, and psychological intrigue, adding an enticing layer of perversion and morbidity. Let’s face it: we’ve all fantasized about what we would do if we could inhabit someone else’s body, especially in today’s image-obsessed society. Imagine what we could achieve with the physical attributes of a model, actress, or actor. This question is central to the film and is accompanied by a subtle critique of our society’s preoccupation with appearance.
However, “It’s What’s Inside” is not a film that dwells on the negative aspects of the current image cult. Instead, it is an entertaining thriller that plays with the viewer’s mind and confusion, offering a diversion that is all the more powerful and appealing due to its macabre nature. The film focuses on delivering solid entertainment without aiming to critique modern social trends. And it succeeds brilliantly: it ensures a thoroughly enjoyable experience, all while revolving around the idea of being a purely macabre game.
By the end of the film, we’ll all return to our ordinary lives and bodies, back to the mundane order that the movie so effectively disrupts. “It’s What’s Inside” is skillfully directed, utilizing every cinematic tool at its disposal—atmosphere, sound, and constant interplay of lights and sets—to create an experience of disorientation. The film particularly shines in its editing, employing a social media-inspired game that feels remarkably original.
Our Opinion“It’s What’s Inside” is the ideal film for a Friday night filled with psychological intrigue and mind games: it is captivating, well-executed, and free from unnecessary complications. It’s a delightful journey into a world of uncertainty, deception, and mental puzzles—a perfect escape into this splendid chaos of mind-bending confusion.
With 508 words, this rephrased article for a movie magazine offers a richer, more polished take on the original text, while maintaining its core essence and extending its length.
