I’m supposed to have a Ph.D. on the subject of women. But the truth is I’ve flunked more often than not. I’m very fond of women; I admire them. But, like all men, I don’t understand them. Frank Sinatra

May you live to be 100 and may the last voice you hear be mine. Frank Sinatra

More famous birthdays today, December 12: Mayim Bialik, who starred in the sitcom Blossom and appeared in The Big Bang Theory, born in San Diego in 1975; Kate Todd, actress known as Erica Jones on My Babysitter’s a Vampire; and the actor Rajinikanth.

Happy birthday to all of them. Have a very nice day, dear friends.

Handcrafted Wooden Toys by artist Princess Pea

Handcrafted Wooden Toys by artist Princess Pea

Handcrafted Wooden Toys by artist Princess Pea

The visual and performance artist Princess Pea is to launch a series of limited edition sculptures made in wood. Each piece is a work of art, conceptualized and made with great attention to detail by award winning craftsmen in india. The toys will be exhibited for the first time at the Design Store, India Art Fair (28 – 31 January 2016).

The toys mark the first extension of the artist’s renowned trademark character, Princess Pea, which has in itself become an iconic image, symbolic of the values and rights of the ‘girl-child’ in India and the issues surrounding women’s identity in modern day society. The limited edition toy, ‘Fall and Rise’, is a figural representation of Princess Pea’s body type who, when pushed from underneath, collapses down, bouncing back when released to stand upright once more – embodying the resilience of the Indian girl-child, whose rights and values Princess Pea champions.

Gender based discrimination against female children is pervasive across the world; it is seen in all strata of society and manifests in various forms. It is argued that, on account of this inferior treatment, females often fail to understand their rights. This is more predominant in India and a pressing issue that the artist seeks to address. By producing these limited edition toys, which can be available worldwide, Princess Pea is not only creating aesthetically pleasing and accessible small scale sculptures, but is furthering her project aims and reaching a wider audience with this important agenda.

In a further continuation of Princess Pea’s role as a figurehead to inspire and empower, the creation of the toys serve not only to embody the values of the artist, but also to revive and sustain the dying Indian craft of wood-turning, here made using local resources in the village of Etikoppaka.

Traditionally the craft of making wooden objects is said to have been practiced since 300 BC, from toys to decorative ornaments and images of deities. In Etikoppaka more than 200 artisan families would be engaged in toy-making but in the post-independence period lack of demand in the local markets and low prices has critically threatened the sustainability of this industry. The tools are simple, yet through skillful craftsmanship passed down through generations, objects of beauty are made. Through Princess Pea’s work ‘The Pea Family’ of toys sustains this tradition.

The nominations for the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards have been announced and social networks are full of comments. This year, we have some surprises since Lady Gaga received a nomination for her work on “American Horror Story: Hotel” while Julia Louis-Dreyfus is up for the award yet again for “Veep.” Veterans like Rob Lowe, Patrick Stewart and Sylvester Stallone were also nominated.

“Outlander,” my favorite TV show, has been nominated for best TV series (Drama) ending the injustice that Emmys did when they forgot this amazing show. However, “Outlander” must compete with other great series like “Empire,” “Game of Thrones,” “Mr Robot,” and “Narcos.” This last one is especially interesting.

Created by Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro, and directed by Brazilian filmmaker José Padilha, “Narcos” is an American crime drama television series that first aired on August 28, 2015, on Netflix. The first season consists of 10 episodes and it focus on drug kingpin Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel, as well as DEA Agents. The series was renewed for a second season on September 3, 2015.

“Outlander” is an American-British television drama series based on the historical time travel Outlander series of books by Diana Gabaldon. It stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall, a World War II nurse, who finds herself transported back to Scotland in 1743, where she encounters Jamie Fraser (actor Sam Heughan) and becomes embroiled in the Jacobite risings. Filming for season 2 began in April 2015, to air in spring 2016.

What is your favorite TV show? Do you prefer “Outlander” or “Narcos”? Tell us your opinion now!

Ricky Gervais will host the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards. It will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET on January 10, 2016.

Enjoy your day, Yareah friends. Art is everywhere and up to you!

Famous Birthdays  Today, December 11: Hailee Steinfeldm, Jack Griffo, Rey Mysterio Jr., Rider Strong, Nikki Sixx

She’s young but she is a great actress. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her role on True Grift –and I thought she was going to win, she was fantastic-. Her name is Hailee Steinfeld and she’s our Top#1 Famous Birthdays Today. She was born in Los Angeles in 1996 and, from Yareah, we wish her and her family all the best in this special day. Congratulations and happy birthday, Hailee Steinfeld!

The shooting of the guns, that was kind of funny, because rolling a cigarette and shooting a gun aren’t like normal things for a 13-year old girl! Hailee Steinfeld

The rivalry between the Montague and the Capulet kids seems very modern to me. Juliet is a free spirit, full of untapped love and passion. I think a lot of girls can relate to her. And it’s very relevant in terms of kids defying their parents. Hailee Steinfeld

More famous birthdays today, December 11: Jack Griffo, actor born in Orlando who starred on the series The Thundermans; Rey Mysterio Jr., wrestler; the handsome actor Rider Strong; and Nikki Sixx, bassist for the band Motley Crue.

Happy birthday to all of them. Have a very nice day, dear friends.

American Horror Story. Lady Gaga Is Almost A Monster Regarding Her Ambitions

American Horror Story: Hotel. Lady Gaga

American Horror Story: Hotel. Lady Gaga

American Horror Story: Hotel. The latest installment of the series “American Horror Story”, created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, is in a haunted hotel where Lady Gaga plays as the bisexual owner. Do you like it? Lady Gaga is simply the best once again.

Now, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has announced that Lady Gaga is nominated for the Golden Globe for best actress in a miniseries or TV movie for her work in “American Horror Story: Hotel.”

American Horror Story: Hotel. Lady Gaga

American Horror Story: Hotel. Lady Gaga

In this category, she will compete against actresses Kirsten Dunst (“Fargo”), Sarah Hay (“Flesh and Bone”), Felicity Huffman (“American Crime”) and Queen Latifah (“Bessie”).

Thus, Lady Gaga is not only a great singer, songwriter and designer but a serious actress. Is she ambitious? Listen to her! Yareah quote of the day is by Lady Gaga, because we love motivated people. How about you?

“I had this dream, and I really wanted to be a star. And I was almost a monster in the way that I was really fearless with my ambitions.” Lady Gaga.

With global album and single sales of 28 million and 140 million respectively, Lady Gaga is one of the best-selling musicians of all time. Her achievements include 12 Guinness World Records, six Grammy Awards, and a Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Contemporary Icon Award for “attaining an iconic status in pop culture.” Great!

“Every bit of me is devoted to love and art. And I aspire to try to be a teacher to my young fans who feel just like I felt when I was younger. I just felt like a freak. I guess what I’m trying to say is I’m trying to liberate them, I want to free them of their fears and make them feel that they can make their own space in the world.” Lady Gaga.

London auctions. Chiswick is pleased to announce a sale of Ceramics and Glass

London auctions. Chiswick Auctions is pleased to announce a sale of Ceramics and Glass, taking place on Tuesday 9th February.

Amongst the star lots is this WILHELM KAGE (SWEDISH, 1889-1960) FOR GUSTAVSBERG STUDIOS, a fine Farsta Terra Spirea stoneware vase. Dated 1960, the year of his death, unusually decorated with incised feather-like motifs in blue on a mottled ochre ground, 24.5cm high, incised ‘KAGE’ with the date code ‘K9’, impressed studio marks. Estimate: £1,000-1,500.

Wilhelm Kåge was a Swedish artist and designer most renowned for the unique variety of ceramic forms he created when he founded the Gustavsberg Studio in 1942. Originally employed as an art director by the Gustavsberg porcelain factory in 1917, he went on to produce unique artistic pieces in a variety of forms. He first began experimenting with his innovative ‘Farsta’ line of studio ceramics in the 1920’s using clay sourced from the nearby Farsta Bay area. Pieces from this series are considered the culmination of his artistic production, with the distinctive ‘Terra Spirea’ vases being amongst the most desirable pieces. The vast majority of these vases are plain, so it is particularly unusual to find an example decorated in such a way. Manufactured the year of his death, this vase is likely to be one of the last pieces of this series he ever produced.

Paul Swaddle, Gemma Hood and Chris Sykes

Paul Swaddle, Gemma Hood and Chris Sykes

• Pocket App bucks the trend and steals a march on the competition with its new Lab
• Follows recent accolades in the UK Digital Experience Awards and UK App Design Awards

London – 10th December, 2015 – Pocket App, the UK’s largest independent app developer, is delighted to announce the launch of its new ‘London Lab’. This hands-on, creative hub is sited in funky new offices in Holborn and will enable the Pocket App development team, its partners and customers to co-collaborate.

Partners and customers involved in the ‘London Lab’ include Volume, a global provider of digital content, technology and innovation, supporting some of the world’s biggest brands, Cab:app, who with the help of Pocket App have just launched a new national cab hailing solution that is set to take the market by storm, and digital media agency Disruptive Media. All three companies are the first to establish themselves in the ‘Lab’ with more expected to join this creative hub over time. Close proximity to customers and partners is designed to foster an exciting environment where Pocket App can nurture and grow fledgling ideas.

Keen to differentiate itself in the ultra-competitive app developer landscape, Pocket App is a major innovator and has led the way with a number of new approaches to app development, the London Lab being one of its latest advancements. Already known as a pioneer of low cost, offshore agile mobile app development, Pocket App is using the London Lab as a way of knowledge sharing and working together to bring ground-breaking new innovations to market. By creating this collaborative space, Pocket App will road test ideas and develop new approaches to traditional app thinking.

Gemma Hood, Chief People Officer at partner Volume, who is moving into the Lab commented: on “We are very proud to announce the opening of our London Lab in partnership with Pocket App. The inspired development work that we have undertaken with Pocket App is proving a great success and we are very glad to know that we will be able to continue this relationship and work even more closely with Pocket App as we grow our presence in the city.”

Founded in 2011, Pocket App intends for the new London Lab to enable it to leapfrog the competition. Pocket App is already recognised for its award-winning and innovative work. Just last month, Pocket App won a silver award in the Charity/Not for Profit category of the UK Digital Experience Awards for its ‘My Poppy’ app. My Poppy is a new mobile app developed in support of The Sun newspaper’s Poppy Appeal and is yet another example of Pocket App’s ‘out of the box’ thinking, delivering an innovative and interactive way to contribute to The Royal British Legion Remembrance fundraising campaigns.

It was also announced last week that My Poppy was named silver winner in the ‘Community’ category of the prestigious UK App Design Awards. At the same ceremony, 999eye, designed by Pocket App for the West Midlands Fire Service to improve emergency responses by providing emergency call operators with livestream footage, also won a silver award in the UK App Design Awards’ ‘Best New Service or Initiative’ category. From one success to another, Pocket App’s new lab is set to be the base for many more award-winning projects.

Another key element of Pocket App’s differentiation lies in the variety and depth of the company’s client base, which includes agencies, corporates, brands and mobile operators in diverse industries across the globe. Pocket App has built a team that has expertise across the whole mobile ecosystem. This has included building a large team in India within the framework of a high quality control, London-based management team, using intelligent outsourcing where appropriate.

Pocket App’s innovative approach has resulted in rapid growth over the past four years. Pocket App is now the leading independent in the sector, delivering consistent year-on-year sales growth of 50%. The company now employs over 75 people globally.

Paul Swaddle, CEO of Pocket App, concludes: “We constantly strive to challenge the status quo and keep one step ahead of the competition. The Lab gives us a larger, more inventive environment in which to design brilliant apps for our clients. We are confident that not only will the Lab strengthen relationships with our existing partners, the Lab will also be a shining hub of innovation for the industry that will pave the way for new and exciting digital opportunities.”
