SPECIAL MUSIC & LITERARY EVENT!
Join me for a very special MUSIC & LITERARY event! Live jazz performance and literary conversation on Saturday, May 18th, 7PM, at the amazing OnStage performance space at The Book Shack in Massachusetts! This new and creative bookstore is hardly a shack -they even have a cafe with wine and beer. Join Pam Belluck, New York Times staff writer and author of ISLAND PRACTICE, a true tale about an eccentric and colorful doctor, which is being developed into a TV series by Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox. Pam, who is also a jazz flutist, will play jazz with terrific musicians led by the fantastically talented Boston pianist/composer Mark Shilansky. Pam will also have a conversation with Alicia Anstead, editor of The Writer magazine, about Island Practice, music and writing. More info here: https://www.facebook.com/thebookshack...

Island Jazz New York City event!
Here's a link to Caffe Vivaldi's blog post and a snippet of video from the first Island Practice "Island Jazz" gig -in New York City a few months ago. For those of you in the New York area, we'll be performing there again on July 24 and August 28, 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Caffe Vivaldi is a wonderful venue, really a Greenwich Village gem, lovingly tended by Ishrat Ansari, who not only loves artists of all genres, but is the very soul of an artist himself. (Not shown here, but coming soon will be a bit of the conversation with me and the awesome Alicia Anstead, editor of The Writer magazine.)

Storytelling Event in New York City!
A cool storytelling event this Friday evening in New York City: I've been invited to join some fascinating folks (authors, a playwright, a veterinarian and, um, a "former brothel owner") to tell an animal-related story. Thinking about one of the great Dr. Lepore animal anecdotes in Island Practice...

Island Jazz event on Nantucket!
A very special "Island Practice" literary musical event! Music with me and Nantucket's own fantastic Matthew Hutchinson trio! Conversation with Island Practice's Dr. Tim Lepore! Moderated by Georgia Urbano Raysman of The Nantucket Chronicle! Maybe Dr. Lepore will play a solo on one of his hand-carved obsidian scalpels (perhaps on the song "I've Got You Under My Skin" :)
Wednesday, August 21, 8:30 p.m. at Arno's, 41 Main Street, Nantucket. Food and drink too.

Island Practice on NPR's WBUR Arts Blog
NPR's WBUR 90.9 FM has a beautifully rich and exciting arts blog called The Artery, run by Ed Siegel. Today they have a lovely piece by Coralie Kraft about Island Practice that also includes some video of one of our musical literary events, and a mention of our upcoming Island Jazz gig https://www.facebook.com/events/54103... on Nantucket with the Matthew Hutchinson trio, Georgia Urbano Raysman of the Nantucket Chronicle - and the inimitable Dr. Lepore. Thanks so much to The Artery for this great piece and your uniquely wonderful site for all things related to the arts!

Washington Post recommends ISLAND PRACTICE
So, on the same day that The Washington Post had that minor bit of news that it was being bought by Jeff Bezos, it also had this much more important piece - five recommended summer reads, including Island Practice! And both developments have an Amazon connection. Coincidence? Yeah, okay... http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinion...

Island Jazz on Nantucket!
Trying to think of thematically relevant tunes to play at our August 21 "Island Jazz" gig on Nantucket. Since Island Practice's Dr. Tim Lepore will be there - and since he is a surgeon and tick expert, among other things - I'm toying with "I've Got You Under My Skin." Maybe Dr. L could play a solo on one of his hand-carved obsidian scalpels. https://www.facebook.com/events/54103...
The Island Review
Well, this is a nice surprise: The Island Review, an innovative and visually beautiful online magazine dedicated to all things island, has published a piece I wrote about a floating island. This was before I started working on my book "Island Practice," and it was quite a fun story to do - wonder if the island is still floating around. All you lovers of actual and metaphorical islands, check out The Island Review - I bet you can even suggest story ideas for them. http://www.theislandreview.com/an-isl...
