Thoughtful Thursday- Aaron-Michael Hall on Audio Books

Hello Lovelies, I am so excited to introduce you to Aaron-Michael Hall, a Speculative Fiction author (Epic Fantasy and Science Fantasy with an EDGE) originally from southern Illinois. Since August 2015, she has written eight full-length novels and published four. Her first novel, The Rise of Nazil has won numerous reader awards. Now, when she is not interviewing indie authors on her Desu Beast Blog, being super mom, wrangling stampeding miniature dachshunds, or managing her 9 to 5, she is interweaving genres, creating languages, and adding just the right edge to keep you turning pages.Aaron-Michael created the Mehlonii language for her diverse Epic Fantasy series. Along with intriguing characters, multilayered plots, new species, deities, and creatures, the Mehlonii language adds that fantastical element missing from most modern Epic/High fantasy. You can listen to samples of the spoken Mehlonii language on her website’s Mehlonii page. When asked why she wrote this series, Aaron-Michael simply said, “It needed to be written.”It is her hope that the readers enjoy the wonders of Faélondul and Ahmezurhran even more than she enjoyed writing about them.I met Aaron as part of last year's B2B CyCon, and I loved the covers the moment I saw them! I immediately added them to my TBR. Now she has her books available on audiobook!  And as part of the excitement of launching on audiobook, she is offering a very exciting giveaway! You can enter the giveaway here! Until next time, Keep Reading!

Book Review- Coilhunter by Dean F. Wilson

Genre: Western SteampunkSynopsis: Welcome to the Wild North, a desolate wasteland where criminals go to hide—if they can outlast the drought and the dangers of the desert. Or the dangers of something else. Meet Nox, the Coilhunter. A mechanic and toymaker by trade, a bounty hunter by circumstance. He isn't in it for the money. He's in it for justice, and there's a lot of justice that needs to be paid. Between each kill, he's looking for someone who has kept out of his crosshairs for quite a while—the person who murdered his wife and children. The trail has long gone cold, but there are changes happening, the kind of changes that uncover footprints and spent bullet casings. Plagued by nightmares, he's made himself into a living one, the kind the criminals and conmen fear. So, welcome, fair folk, to the Wild North. If the land doesn't get you, the Coilhunter will.My Take: If you love the world of Firefly, then you will love Coilhunter. It kind of feels like a backwater planet in the 'verse.  Now, to be clear, I am not comparing this to Firefly. There isn't the fun camaraderie between crew members, and there's no space. However, the western meets steampunk? Totally loving it! Dean f. Wilson does a great job creating this world that in one moment feels like a Western of the Wild Bill Hickok days, but at the next is introducing delightful steampunk elements, like the monowheel, or the duck. (Yeah, you'll just have to read it.) I have always been a fan of westerns. I like the solitary gritty good guy fighting against evil, and Dean nails it with Nox. Despite the mask and the burns, I totally fell in love with him. His relationship with Handcart Sally was a kick! And the end, OMG, the end! I just... Cannot. Wait. For. More!If you enjoy westerns and steampunk, this is totally the book for you. Grab your copy from Amazon today!Until next time,Keep Reading!

The Hope of the Nation

Hello Lovelies, I am excited to welcome back Jesse Teller to the blog, as you may recall, he spent some time with us earlier this year withHeart of the Broken, and an Author InterviewEnjoy another guest post!On October 5th my fifth book Song will be released. The cast is led by a wizard named Rayph Ivoryfist. Many and varied are the shades of his personality, and wild and rampant are his powers. He is scary to write for many reasons. How do I challenge a character this powerful? How do I show growth in one this ancient? How do I define a race with a person who largely hides who he is? All these are issues for me, but none of them inspire the kind of apprehension and fear I feel when writing Rayph as much as this simple fact:I named my son after this character.Rayph Teller, my first-born son, was named after Rayph Ivoryfist long before I wrote the books that fill this trilogy. When I crafted Ivoryfist, his past, his life and his future, when I brought to life his personality and his flaws, I had to keep in mind that I put a bold target on his back, telling one of the most important people in my life: Here, look at this man. Here is an image of what I was thinking when I named you. Look to him for inspiration, for what I want for you and from you.Terror is too strong a word for what I felt when I wrote Rayph Ivoryfist. But not by much. I had, for a long time, no idea what to do with this book when I thought of my son and what I was saying about who he is, how I see him, and what I want for his future. How do I approach building this man that will help direct my son’s life?I started with faults. One of the greatest things we can teach our children is that no one is perfect. If I show my kids nothing but perfection, and they think that is possible, then when they make mistakes, they will flail themselves. I spoke to this when I wrote a different book by creating a perfect character and then giving him a mistake that nearly destroyed him. That book is coming, but in this one, I wanted to steer clear of that lesson. So, I made Rayph Ivoryfist arrogant.I do not think my son has this problem. He is one of the most humble people I know. But I wanted to show him how ugly this aspect is in a person. My Rayph is smart. He is strong. He has many of the attributes of a person who might think himself perfect. As he grows, he will learn this about himself. I am raising him to be a king of men, and with every lesson I teach him, I give him a great amount of power. I needed to curb this aspect of his life as soon as possible without pointing at him and saying, “You are being arrogant.” So why not show him this fault in someone else?Rayph Ivoryfist underestimates his enemies. He has a tendency to think himself overly powerful and his foes weaker than they are. This gets him in a lot of trouble. It is an aspect of his arrogance, but more specific. He has this tendency with everyone but his friends. His inner circle he deeply respects, but those outside of it, not as much. This is not my son, but it is a trait some people have to their own detriment.I started with faults, but didn’t stay there long. I needed to craft a role model who could inspire my son to greatness. I started piling things on this character that I wanted for my Rayph.Utter loyalty to friends and family. This is a defining characteristic of Ivoryfist. There is no favor too large for a friend. There is no danger he would not face for a loved one.Love of country. I want my son to love his people and his nation, and I instilled that in the character. But at the same time Ivoryfist is the Hope of the Nation, he has a desire to hold its king responsible for his actions. He is involved in the fate of his nation and holds its authority accountable as he fights to protect it.Ivoryfist has a sense of duty. He does not see a thing that needs done and wait for another to do it. He is the kind of man who sees a need and fills it.Honor. Love. Respect. Power, real and terrible, and the reserve to know when not to use it. I built all these virtues into my son’s namesake. I did it because writing gives me a voice. It allows me to point and direct people’s attention at the things I believe in.I am building the Hope of my Nation, the Hope of my Family and the Hope of the Future I envision, for myself and the world at large, every time I speak to my son. This is just another tool to do that with. But that doesn’t mean it is not a scary thing to do.Jesse Teller fell in love with fantasy when he was five years old and played his first game of Dungeons & Dragons. The game gave him the ability to create stories and characters from a young age. He started consuming fantasy in every form and, by nine, was obsessed with the genre. As a young adult, he knew he wanted to make his life about fantasy. From exploring the relationship between man and woman, to studying the qualities of a leader or a tyrant, Jesse Teller uses his stories and settings to study real-world themes and issues.Want to learn more about Jesse? Meet the author with Rebekah Jonesy

Hello Lovelies, I am excited to introduce you to a wonderful woman who writes in the romance/ erotica genre. Meet my kith, Rebekah Jonesy!Rebekah Jonesy is a work from home wife. A voracious reader, she decided it was time she made her own contributions. She has been writing for most of her life but only started publishing in 2014. Her books are contemporary romance with a variety of kinks thrown in. Understanding that human sexuality is as complex as the people are, she strives to show the reality of love as her characters work to find their happily ever after. Outside of the literary world, she is a mad scientist cook, gardener, Jill of all trades, and military spouse.Hello Rebekah-kith, welcome to An Angell's Life, finally! What is the current book you are promoting?Hello, my lovely Angell-kith. I’m here today to talk about my most recently published book. It’s the second in a trilogy about a lovely, Southern gentleman named Stuart. He also happens to be super rich, an alpha male, a sadist Dominant, and a Boy Scout. The title of the book is Unacceptable. I choose this title because in this book Leslie, the main female character, struggles to learn what it means to be a dominant and what it means to be a submissive. She only has a vague, warped idea of what that means from reading dirty novels like mine. At the same time she’s trying to figure out how to date again as a newly single mom, and what it means to have a boyfriend for the first time since college. Stuart is also trying to figure out how to date a single mom, while running his businesses, and abiding by Leslie’s sense of public decorum. Both of them have to figure out what’s acceptable and what’s unacceptable, in public and in private.Love it! Who is your favorite character in your book and why?In this book my favorite character is Leslie. She’s trying so hard to do what’s right for everyone. And she’s studying and trying and keeps getting in her own way. But she’s aware enough to call herself out for her bad behavior too. And the whole time she’s worried about her daughter and willing to sacrifice everything to keep her daughter happy.I love good mamas! What is your next project?I am actually working on a few right now. I am finishing up the third book to this trilogy, which will also give a look at some characters from past books. And I am starting a new series about one of the kinkier, less inhibited characters. I’ve also coauthored another book which is in the final editing/rewrite stages and will come out soon. And then there’s the movies I am script editing. One is done andlooking for funding, the other I will finish editing next week. And I just picked up a writing gig with OWS as well. So I’m all over the place for the next month or so.Ha, ha, I totally feel you on that. Where do you come up with your stories?Amusingly enough, from my previous stories. I wrote my first book about Mandy and Kurt. There were a lot of secondary characters in those books. And each of those characters spoke to me, wanting to have their own happily ever afters. So Bran/Brandy got her story. Then Laura/Candy got hers. So on and so on, spreading out from there over time. Then finally Stuart was in a secure enough spot/job that he could start thinking about settling down too, so it was time for his Once Upon a Time. What is one great lesson you have learned as a writer?Everyone has their own story. But more than that, they have several stories. Life isn’t just one story. And happily ever after has to be worked for, even after you find your love. Because your story doesn’t end there, and it impacts other’s stories as well. The smartest thing I've ever heard about romance, ever! What is your favorite word?Dork. It’s the giant, hidden dick that most people never think about or even know it’s in their vocabulary.Ha, ha, of course that's your favorite word! Thank you for joining us, Rebekah-kith (Those of you who know Rebekah-kith and I might have noticed the new thing we've been doing the last couple of weeks... Adding Kith to each other's names. She wished it was that easy. These Kittnz have claws. Six empowering women that own the night. Voted top ten of female authors of biker fiction. "This book takes the typical tough guy biker gang, turns it into females, straps some leather and fishnets on it and goes to work kicking ass."“If your sitting in a bar in London, and six beautiful women enter wearing black leather jackets, with a logo of a cat’s paw on the back, sit down, shut up, and behave. Book Review: New Hope by Steve Hobbs

Genre: Urban Fantasy/ MysterySynopsis: DESPERATE EVIL descends on a quirky Maine town in Steve Hobbs’s gripping debut thriller, New Hope.Seventeen year old Miri Jones has always wanted to be a detective. When she discovers mutilated human remains during her morning run, she’s found her case. But the bizarre nature of the crime will shake everything she believes in and might just get her killed. The town of New Hope is about to make its last stand in a war Miri never knew existed.Only the brave will survive. My Take: All the feels! This book takes me back to my childhood. Quite literally, as it's set in the 80s. With all the charming nostalgia of Stranger Things, the Nancy Drew Heroine, and the campy group of kids fighting vampires that's reminiscent of Lost Boys, there really wasn't much not to love about this book.  If you are looking for a fun read with all those feels, then you will love New Hope. There weren't any deep questions, and I figured out a lot of things pretty quickly, but it still was a nice break and a fun read. If that sounds fun to you, then grab a copy today.Until next time, Keep Reading!

Teaser Tuesday- Meet the crew from Harmless by Katherine Dell

Hello lovelies, So I came across this really cool author this weekend, and I couldn't wait to share her book with everyone because I totally added it to my TBR! HarmlessBe careful what you wish for. After moving from Vancouver to isolated Hazelton, BC, high school senior Rachel Barnes hopes she’ll finally find closure and a sense of direction after tragedy has torn her family apart. When she and her friends discover the old spirit box her grandmother gave her, they see it as a chance to wish their troubles away. But the Great Spirits—deer, crow, bear, and the mythical wendigo—give away nothing for free. So instead of worrying about fitting in and finding a boyfriend, Rachel finds herself in a race to control the malevolent spirit who’s taken up residence in Mason Allen, who she fears and craves in equal measure. What began as a harmless game forces Rachel to confront her past—and offers her a future she never imagined.Step into a reality that is not as it seems in Book 1 of the Harmless series.Ya'll know I've got a thing for all things Native American, right? Plus, WENDIGOS! Yes, you read that right. I was definitely intrigued! Then I saw these awesome one liners: That mug, so compelling, and who doesn't love tea, right? I literally spewed my coffee when I read this. It's so true, when you look at the ancient mythos. A writer who did their homework always has a special place in my heart. And we all know I love the snarky guys. I think I totally get why Rachel has a thing for Mason... Ah, so the chill factor is definitely there. We all know I can only do so much romance. I need more. This promises to have it.  But for those who like the romantic bits, there will be some, and this feeling is one I can relate to.  And that touch of mystery!  What is happening here? See! My interest is totally piqued! Bam, on my TBR! How about you? Are you interested in learning more about Harmless? Well, here it is on Goodreads. But for those interested in getting a free sample, the author has the first bit onInstafreebie.Trade your email for the sample! Until next time, Keep Reading!

Well this week, let's meet the author behind that urban fantasy fun!Claire Plaisted lives in Rotorua, New Zealand with her family. Claire also developed a business to help Indie Authors self-publish, assisting over thirty clients so farClaire has published twenty-six books.  Two are short stories, six are part of a series which is called ‘Garrett Investigation Bureau.’  She has one adult fantasy, one children’s mythical story.  Along with six contemporary romance novellas under her pen name ‘Beth Bayley.’ Claire has a children’s book series called Girlie Adventures. The first three are now available. ‘Girlie and the War of the Wasps,’ ‘Girlie and the Quest for Pedi’s Family and ‘Girlie’s Circus Adventure.  They are adventure story for children from four years upwards. Each one sold gives 40% to a charity.  The first book is, in essence about healthy eating and the book will help raise funds for ‘Chasing a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes.’Enjoy your lives and read a book.Claire[image error]Hello, Claire! Welcome to An Angell's Life! How are you?Thank you for the opportunity for this interview. The sun is shining and I’m in a good place at present, though rather busy with my work and several clients I am working with. What is the current book you are promoting?I am starting to promote ‘Enchantments – The Beginning’ it is a short story introducing readers to the characters in a new series.  The book is YA Fantasy and tells the story of eight young adults who are trained to fight against the Shadow Master and his Dark Realm.  If they fail the human world will die and the Shadow Master will rise and rule supreme.Ha, ha, I was RIGHT! The Shadow Master is just a perfectly villainous name! If you could have your book made into a movie, who would you want to direct it?I would love to have Sir Peter Jackson to direct my fantasy movie along with Weta Workshop to do all the fantasy details. It would be amazing.Jackson does do fantasy so very well! What is your next project?I have several projects on the go right now.  I have an Anthology – Ghostly Writes Anthology 2017 topublish at ‘All Hallows Eve’ This involves about 20 – 30 authors with short stories. There may be two books this year.  This Anthology is free to contribute to and the ebook will be free as well.  On to my own writing.  I have two books to publish by December.  Book six of Garrett Investigation Bureau called Ancient Relics and book four of my childrens series which raises money for charities.  This one is called Girlie and the Ninja Ladybugs.  It is about bullying, changing and team work.  All the books are set in a Cottage Garden with insects and small animals from around the world.Whew, how busy! Best of luck with all of that. I know the pressure of a fast-paced publishing model! But it is so fun. What is one place you would like to visit and why?Canada.  I would then tell my dad all about it.  It is a place he wanted to see and never did and now he’s too old to travel. We also have family there and I have a few friends I’d love to meet.Canada is beautiful, especially in the fall. What one person from history would you like to meet and why?My grandfather.  He died four months before my birth. He looked like a loving and charming man who was ruled by his wife.  Granddad was a Minister and spoke at least four languages including: Russian, Welsh, Latin and Hebrew.  He also became a Minister in North Dakota in the 1930’s and at that time the Native Indians weren’t allowed to do baptisms, marriage or funerals.  Grandfather was a great friend with the local chief ‘Yellow Horse’ – I think his name was, and had the honor of taking his funeral prior to returning to England with his young family.Wow, you come from a family of travelers. How do you write your books?I suppose many would say ‘by the seat of her pants’.  I literally fell into writing by accident when researching a family history book for a client.  At that time, I opened a word document and a novel was born (still not published) It was good to read (apparently) though my writing was all over the place with third and first person etc.  It has since been a huge learning curve.  Anyway, the how I write is when the muse insists. I go with the flow. I never know what I will write or where the story is taking me.  My main issue is the muses keep disappearing for months on end so I have over sixty draft manuscripts on my computer. When I need information to confirm a time, a place, a description, an historical fact etc then I will go and research via google, historical websites I am a member of, ask friends or those I know who are interested in a topic I am covering.  I have started to acknowledge the websites (learning curve) and I always put in names of those who have helped if they have agreed. This is how I write and it still blows me away that I have published twenty-six times.  The older ones are now going under re-work and editing to correct where I’ve improved my writing. What is one great lesson you have learned as a writer? It is never ending and you always miss something.  It doesn’t matter if you are a Trad published or Indie (Classic) published author.  There will also always be someone who sees issues, these are mainly to do with the variety of English Language used today. What is your favorite word?BuggerSuch a great word!
