Title: White WitchSeries: The Coven SeriesAuthor: Trish MilburnPublisher: Bell Bridge BooksPub Date: March 01, 2012ISBN: 9781611940831Genre: YA ParanormalSource: NetGalley

Witchcraft Is Her Family's Business. No One Quits The Family And Lives To Tell About It.
"Jax" Pherson has power, enough power to know her future will end in service to the dark coven her father controls.  Unless she can stay hidden in a small community in the mountains of North Carolina.  She must find a way to live without magic and deny the darkness she feels welling up inside her—the same dark power that fuels the covens around the world. All she wants is a normal life.  A boyfriend.  Friends.  Some place to belong, but all too soon Jax's barely begun new life hangs in the balance when she discovers that the boy she's attracted to is sworn to kill her kind.  He's a hunter with good reason to kill everything that goes bump in the night.   Even the most fleeting use of her power is tantamount to signing her death warrant and will bring both hunter and coven down on her.  But can she walk away when her friends are threatened by an old evil?  Something created by the magic of witches? Jax's only hope of survival is to convince the boy she loves to forget everything he's ever been taught and help her find a way to fight the covens.  To believe there is some good in her.

Watch the White Witch book trailer:

Review: White Witch is an exciting tale filled with angst and acceptance, dealing with the everyday issues teenagers face today, while delivering an action-packed story of magic, witchcraft, friendship and love.Jaxina Pherson a.k.a Jax Taylor is on the run from her family, an evil coven of witches. Leaving is the ultimate betrayal, punishable by death. A fact that Jax was made all too aware of when she witnessed her father take her mother's life, years before, when she'd tried to escape.Wanting nothing but a normal life, Jax runs away to a small town, but with the threat of her coven discovering her wereabouts always in mind. She daren't use her powers as that will leave a signature which will lead them right to her. Jax soon finds out that her coven is not the only thing to worry about, though. An almost run-in with a Hunter and her life changes forever. Especially when the Hunter turns out to be, Keller Dawes, the gorgeous guy whom she instantly feels an attraction for. Jax's wish to lead a normal life as a teenage girl brings a whole new set or problems as well. Her drop-dead gorgeous looks have every boy in school following her like puppy dogs, and almost every girl hating her for this. She finds an ally in, Toni, Keller's cousin and they become best friends. But Jax isn't so lucky with the Queenbee of Baker Gap High , having stepped on her toes one too many times she finds herself the ridicule of Stacey's jealousy, which quickly stirs the deep, dark emotions, Jax has tried her best to ignore.Just as Jax starts to settle in to her new existance, a life or death situation forces her to reveal what she really is. Will it make any difference to her friends? And what about Keller? Will his Hunter instinct turn him against her, or will she be able to persuade him otherwise? The appearance of another deflective witch raises more problems, and when Jax's new friends find themselves face to face with the evil she is evading, does she have the power to save them? Jax's biggest decision comes when she must decide if staying and putting her friends in danger is the right thing to do, or if leaving the only option.I loved the flow of this story. It was filled with so much emotion and at times I felt a spasm in my heart. Each character is wonderful in their own right, and I enjoyed the banter between the girls while getting ready for Homecoming, and the even the relationship between the male characters. It felt very real. Keller is a total hottie, and his sincerity and protectiveness is like a warm blanket on a cold winter's night. The ending leaves the promise of great things to come and I cannot wait to read the other books in this series.
I recommend this book to all lovers of paranormal romances. Although the characters are teens, and the setting is highschool, I believe the story will connect with readers of all ages.
So my verdict...four fantastic Bloody Crescents :) Photobucket

AUTHOR INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAY!!

Ah, February...the month of L-O-V-E...

St Valentine's Day is celebrated worldwide. It's a day on which lovers express their love for each other in many different ways, whether it be a box of chocolates (yummy...my fav), bouquet of flowers, a teddybear, some sexy lingerie, or even just a heartfelt note to tell that special someone just how they feel about them.

Photobucket

I've decided that this Valentine's Day is going to be dedicated to something I truly have a passion for, and that is of course books. In particular, a fantastic PNR series I was introduced to by my favorite Goodreads group - Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy Fanatics. I was lucky enough to receive a copy of A Demon Made Me Do It by Penelope King through read2review. From the minute I started reading this book I was blown away, and as soon as I had finished it I wasted no time in purchasing the second book in the series, Fire With Fire. Penelope King is now, officially, my favorite author and I cannot wait for the third book in the series, due for release later this year :)

The world needs to sit up and take notice of Ms. King and her amazing books, so that is why I decided to host a giveaway for the Demonblood series!! (Just doing my part to spread the word)
I was extremely honored when Penelope agreed to join me on my blog for an interview...so without further ado...I present author extraordinaire...Penelope King.

Penelope King is the author of the Demonblood series, as well as the magical Spellbound Trilogy.

1.  Tell us a bit more about yourself.

I live in South Carolina with my family. I graduated from college intending to go into law, but my love of books and literature wouldn't let me. I started writing full time three years ago and haven't looked back!               2. How would you describe yourself in three words?              One. Track. Mind. Seriously, it's kind of annoying.                 3. What do you do when you are not writing?               I write for several hours daily, but that definitely leaves a lot of non-writing time! I work out and swim a few hours each day, I love to cook and bake things from scratch, I can spend days shopping online (terrible habit!), I'm addicted to reality TV and of course READING!!!
4. What 5 things do you never leave home without?               I'd have to say car keys, sunglasses, cell phone, wallet and mascara.
5. What inspired you to write your first novel?              I really felt like I had no choice…I had so many ideas for stories running around inside my head for so long, that if I didn't start putting them to paper, I'd go crazy! I've been an avid reader since I was around 7 or 8, and every time I read a book that I really loved and moved me, I'd tell myself "I want to do this!" So finally I gathered the courage to start putting stuff together.
6. How many books have you written?             Complete ones-4. Incomplete-about 10
7. What has been your most rewarding experience since being published?               Just meeting all the awesome like-minded peeps who share the same love for books and reading as I do. And of course the amazing fans that connect with me over my books…it's a really wonderful feeling!
8. For those readers who are unfamiliar with your Demonblood series, how would you introduce it?              Demonblood is a paranormal romance/urban fantasy about a girl who is a human during the day, but because of a curse transforms into a demon the moment the sun goes down. The human girl (Liora) and the demon girl (Lucky) each have their own personalities and separate memories and hate each other, even though they used to be that same being. All they want is to break the curse that split their soul, but then something happens that makes them question if that is really want they want, and if the price is worth paying.
9. How did you come up with the idea for this series?                For many years I lived and worked in Las Vegas…A.K.A. "Sin City"  :-) I worked in some pretty high-end night clubs doing promotions. Basically, I was paid to dress to the nines, party, and be the life of party. During the daytime we (my co-worker friends and I) were these normal, boring, dorky, quiet girls who led extremely ordinary lives. But at night…out came the crazy outfits, hair extensions, dramatic makeup, and alternate (outgoing) personality. Sometimes we even made up fake names and yes, I used Lucky a few times (hey, it was Vegas). I was always fascinated by the contrast of my "day" life and my "night" life. It literally seemed like I was in two different worlds. We'd always start our nights off with double shots of Patron tequila at the bar (hence Lucky's need). For years I knew I wanted to write some sort of story that captured these paradoxes, but I had no idea how. Then one night I was watching TV and flipping back and forth between watching The Omen (love) and United States of Tara (double love). And it just clicked. Once I started adding in the characters, the story just took on a life of its own.
10. Have you ever based any of your characters on someone you know?                Bones is probably the biggest character who was inspired by someone I knew. But Bones is waaay better than that guy ever was :-)
11. Which chapter was the most memorable/enjoyable for you to write, and why?                The answer I'd want to give is way to spoilery, but I'd say any scene with Lucky and Bones is one I enjoy writing…I love their chemistry and sometimes I feel bad for not letting them have more page time.
12. How did you come up with the title for the books in the Demonblood series?                Actually, I didn't—not the first one, anyway. Originally I named it "Possession" (referring to how each girl had possession of the body and story at different times), but everyone seemed to be really blah on that title…as in, everyone hated it! Lol! This title was actually from a suggestion of an awesome agent I'd met in Myrtle Beach writers conference. She suggested it, I liked it.
13. Who is your favorite character in this series, and why?                I really love each of the characters for their particular roles, but if I HAD to choose one it would probably be Bones…he keeps showing sides to him I never knew were there, and he's just so damn yummy!
14. Can you tell us anything interesting about the third book in the series?                Well, they are starting over in a new location, and the woman they are going to see (Anastasia) is the twin sister of Tatiana. She's is also a very powerful witch. Anastasia is featured prominently in another series I'm writing called the Spellbound trilogy, where she is the matriarch to a young magical girl, much in the way that Tatiana was to Lucky/Liora.As far as sneak peeks go…it's really hard to say anything without giving away spoilers…let's just say that the thing that happened at the end of Fire with Fire will start a chain of events NO ONE saw coming, and most likely only Liora or Lucky will survive this ordeal, but not both. Also, there will be a "prequel" book coming out after the third book, and it will show Lucky/Liora's life before the split (and some after), and will also feature Bones' POV. It will be so amazing!
15. Where can your fans stalk you?                   I have a blog where I try and keep my projects updated (actual blogging-not so much):

http://authorpenelopeking.blogspot.com/                I'm on facebook and this is a good place to message me or get updates:

http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002167812628                And I'm a sporadic tweeter (but I do follow back!

I just want to thank you for the opportunity to visit your blog, and thank you for all your wonderful support. It means the world to me!~Best Wishes and Happy Reading~

Thank you for taking the time to join me on my blog. I really cannot wait for the third book in the Demonblood series, I might even host another giveaway for its release!!

Wow! What a fantastic interview!! Now on to details of the two books that are up for grabs :)One lucky reader will win an eBook copy of: A Demon Made Me Do It (Demonblood #1)
Photobucket

Some girls share clothes, a bathroom, or a bedroom. Seventeen-year-old Liora Greyson has to share, too. Only she shares her body--with a demon.

Liora just wants to survive her final year of high school unscathed, her dark secret intact. But the walls she's carefully constructed to keep people away crack wide open once she meets the sexy and mysterious Kieron, and he lights her world on fire. She can't let him know she transforms into a demon named "Lucky" at nightfall—a demon with an entirely separate personality who passes out Torment, Justice, and Revenge like Halloween candy.

Turns out Kieron is the one who should be afraid once Lucky discovers his true identity and motivations. Liora wants to love him, but Lucky thinks he's public enemy number one. And having a demon with a vendetta show up during a romantic date puts a serious crimp in any relationship.

Fighting your demons is one thing. Having one that fights back, messes with your guy, and leaves you with nasty hangovers is quite another.

Being bad has never been so good...

Fire with Fire (Demonblood #2)
Photobucket It's been over two months since Lucky and Liora decided their fate outside the cave. Over two months since Kieron left to finish his mission.
So why hasn't he returned?
Crushed and confused, Liora finds comfort with a mysterious stranger, a guy whose motives include more than just healing Liora's broken heart. Meanwhile, Lucky finds herself in the arms of an old friend...the one who has always laid claim to her true soul.
When the reason for Kieron's disappearance becomes known, loyalties will be tested, friends will be betrayed, loves will be lost, and hope will be found. Once and for all, Lucky and Liora will have to chose their destiny. And not everyone will survive their choice.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW WITH TAYELON CREE

Therian - A member of the contemporary subculture of Therianthropy, derived from the Greek therion (Θηριον, meaning "beast,") and anthrōpos (ανθρωπος, meaning "human,") refers to beings that are partly human and partly animal
Today I will be chatting to the ever handsome, Tayelon Cree. This should be interesting!!
Tayelon is a junior at Cyprus Falls University. We first met him when he came to Amber's rescue on her first day at CFU. The two of them have shared a special connection ever since, but their relationship has been rocky at times, or more like ALL of the time (what do you expect when so many secrets are kept hidden!!) The ultimate question is…will things ever go back to the way they were after the tragic turn of events at the end of Book 1? If you don't know what I'm talking about, then I suggest you get your copy of Therian a.s.a.p!! A few hints were dropped in Amber's interview and you may pick up a few more during my interview with Tayelon. Enjoy!!
Roxy: Hello, Tayelon. Tayelon: Hey Roxy. How you doing? *flashes a gorgeous smile*Roxy: *whispers* Excuse me while I pick myself up off the floor *sigh, again* I'm doing really well. Thanks for asking. How are things with you these days? Kill anyone's father lately? *asks nonchalantly*Tayelon: Ouch. That was a low blow. I thought you were going to play fair.Roxy: Okay, okay. I guess that wasn't called for, but you know, we girls have to stick together.Tayelon: Yeah, well, anymore of that and I'm outta here.Roxy: No more questions about that, I promise. Why don't you tell us a little about your family? You have an interesting heritage. Tayelon: I guess. But I really shouldn't be speaking about that either.Roxy: Oh, please, enough with the secrets. So your family is a pack of wolf therians, big deal, which family doesn't have their share of skeletons in the closet.Tayelon: You make it all sound so normal. Do you have any idea how dangerous it can be for us if people were to find out? As it is, those who know about us think we are monsters.Roxy: And by 'those', you mean Amber?Tayelon: Nice try, but that's not going to work.Roxy: Come on, Taye. You can't run from the truth forever. Do you have any idea what you did to that poor girl? She was a complete mess when I met with her a few weeks ago. Do you even care about her, or were you just using her to get to her father?Tayelon: You're crazy. I didn't even know about her father until we went home for winter break. Sure I suspected she was a little different, but I had no idea her father was that vile creature. Besides, we did what we had to do. You can't blame us for it.Roxy: Are you saying Amber should just forgive you for killing her father?Tayelon: No….I mean…well yeah, she should. Roxy: Really? *raises an eyebrow, giving Tayelon a disbelieving look*Tayelon: I know it doesn't seem right that we killed Carmine, but there is so much more to the story. I just have to get Amber away from those other disgusting fiends, *shakes his head* so I can talk to her, and make her believe that what happened was the best for everyone; even her.Roxy: So you really believe Amber should just forget everything that happened? What do you think; that she'll coming running back into your open arms and you'll go riding off into the sunset together?Tayelon: *Heaves a sigh* I don't know. I wish it were that easy. I just need to make Amber see how much I love her, and that I will always be here for her.Roxy: Well, I'm sorry to break it to you but when I asked her about this whole mess…Tayelon: You asked her about US? What did she say? *Sits up in his chair and looks at me eagerly*Roxy: Like I said before, she was a complete mess, and the interview ended with her sobbing her eyes out…Tayelon: Oh, well, I'm sure once I've spoken to her things will be different.Roxy: You sound very confidant. So let me ask you this…if things were reversed, if Amber was the one who killed one of your family members, would you be able to forgive her?Tayelon: Of course! *Shouts without a moment of hesitation* If the person she killed was destructive and a vicious monster, then I'd have to forgive her. Besides, I love her enough to at least hear her out, get her side of the story. Did she say she forgives me?Roxy: Time is up! *reaches over and takes Tayelon's hand* I think you should go back and read my interview with Amber to get your answer. Here's the link to the post: http://roxykade.blogspot.com/2011/12/amberlyn-darksky-character-interview.html
Thank you for joining us today. I hope you enjoyed the interview and if you have any questions for any of Therian's characters please let me know. I'd love to hear from you. Visit me at 48fourteen and start a discussion on my forum thread - http://www.48fourteen.com/forums/roxanne-kade

HONORING THE MOST INTERSTING MAN I KNOW

Today I would like to honor a very special person, my Grandfather, Dennis Cedric Groves. It's his birthday today!!  My Grandfather was, and will always be, the most interesting person I know. His life was filled with many adventures and he was never short of fun stories to share. His journey began at a very young age when he was literally bitten by his hobby, and from there it grew into a great passion that took his talent beyond just another daily past time. It became his life and he spent many hours pouring his heart and soul into every piece of work he produced. From life like specimens of different fish and reptiles, to creatures only the imagination could conjour.  He even went as far as to replicate prehistoric beasts like the Megaladon, the largest prehistoric shark that ever lived!!He also embarked on a project, creating giant sized creepy crawlies. But his goal went further than only creating artworks and trophies; he wanted to educate people and even had a dream of opening a museum for the blind, so that they may also experience all the wonders the world has to offer.Other relics in his collection include a giant footprint that was embedded in a rock crevice in the Mondi Forest. After casting a rubber mold and recreating this unique find, the story was published and priests from Sri Lanka contacted him, as the very same, but opposite footprint exists in their country. According to belief, a higher power came down to judge the earth centuries ago. It stood with one foot in the east and the other in the west. Finding these footprints confirmed this legend.Dennis even had the opportunity to meet MAX the gorilla, made famous after he was shot while apprehending a criminal who broke into his enclosure.  My grandfather took impressions of Max's hands and feet, and made resin casts for the Zoo. They were extremely grateful for this as Max sadly passed away in 2004.His mind was also very imaginative and he created supernatural creatures – witches and werewolves - after being inspired by the John Landis production AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. He also worked closely with Casper van Dien on a film that was produced in South Africa. In 1997, he received the Golden Achievers Award from NBS for his creativity and ability to educate so many youngsters from schools throughout the province. The last project he undertook was to recreate the "WORLD'S LARGEST SNAKE", a reticulated python estimated at around 40ft. The snake was shot by a farmer in Solwezi, Indonesia.  http://youtu.be/5uQRkpLAHKkRegrettably, this never came to pass. In early 2010, he passed away after a short battle with Cancer, only 9 days before his memoirs, "Fangs: A True Account of One Man's Life with Snakes and Survival Against Snake Bites", was published.
Dennis was a family man and always made time for any one of his 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He has joined my grandmother, Madeline, and is looking down on all of us! They are both sorely missed and always in my heart!!
