I'm over at Psycho Noir

Heath Lowrance was kind enough to let me borrow his blog to talk a little about HILL COUNTRY. I took the opportunity to discuss some of the inspiration behind Comal Creek, TX, the little town that is at the center of Hill Country as well as Merciless Pact and my current project, Sins of the Fathers.

Check it out at the link below.

Whither a home

Dan O'Shea, a thoughtful man and one hell of a writer, has been blogging political lately (see here ). The issues he continues to being up are worthy of your perusal as they are considered and thought provoking. You may not agree with him on all the issues, but the point is I believe they will make you think about things you should be considering.

I am sure my background differs quite substantially from Dan. I was born and raised in Texas, and grew up in a household that had been Republican as ...

Review up at Elizabeth White's Place

The wonderful Elizabeth A. White took the time to review HILL COUNTRY today. Here's a little bit of it:

"Hill Country is the kind of book that words like stark, lean, and gritty were invented for. Author R. Thomas Brown has taken would could have been a traditional mystery and elevated it several levels by dropping it down into the hill country of Texas."

We Have a Winner (and other things)

Well, the drawing has been completed, and the winner is...

LUCA VESTE

Congrats, Luca. The books will be on their way to you soon. Thanks to everyone who responded, and to anyone who has or plans to read HILL COUNTRY.

A few of other things.

Darren (Daz) Sant was kind enough to probe my brain for some information. The results of this experiment can be found here:

A few words with Darren Sant

I first became away of Darren through his Longcroft Estate stories. I picked up a few and thoroughly enjoyed them. There's both grit and heart in theses stories that seem to be chronicles of real people making bad choices. Not evil, just full of mistakes.

You can see my full thoughts on these here:

Review of Rowan's Folly

The series has recently been picked up by Byker books. You can pick up all three of these stories at Amazon:

Over at You Would Say That, Wouldn't You

Paul D Brazill, brilliant writer and all around good dude, spent a short time and sent over a few short questions. Check it over at his blog.

ABNA

So, I submitted a story to ABNA this year. It's a YA Epic Fantasy story. I know, not exactly what you'd expect, but it's a genre I really love.

I found out today that I made it past the first round. Now, that's just based on the pitch. So, it could still be a good idea that I executed as crap. We'll find that out on 3/20, but for today it's a small success.

Even more nerve-wracking was that I had a print version created and gave it to my 10 y/o son. He's an avid reader and I'm pretty sure he'll...

A little something because I'm feeling good

As a way to celebrate this launch week, I'd like to offer a print version of Hill Country to one person who buys a copy. I'll even sign it, if you don't think it would hurt the value :)

In case you already intended to buy the print version instead, I'll also send a print copy of my short story collection, Mayhem, which includes the novella Merciless Pact as well.

So, one lucky winner will get two books (and three titles) for the price of one. Just send me a copy of your receipt (my e-mail can b...
