That's not what I meant

The book was done. I finished it. Revised it. Read it again. Liked it. Submitted it out. Then, I read it again this past week. I still liked it.

It just wasn't the book I mean to write.

I mean, it's not like I was in some fugue state and wrote something without knowing where the words came from. No, it's my book. I wrote it. It's just that the final product doesn't at all feel like what I was trying (and thought I had) written.

It's hard to say why. The story, the nuts and bolts of what happens...

Books you'd never read again

So, I was talking with my wife about books we'd be perfectly happy to never read again. Both of us tend to re-read books we enjoy. But, there are some books that, even though they're good books, we'd just as soon  never open the cover again.

Not books that are bad. We've all picked up a book and put it down either because the writing was awful, or the dialog bad, etc. I'm talking about books that you recognize as good books, deserving of the attention they receive, that you just don't wan...

Sale and a giveaway

So, Hill Country's been doing pretty well for a couple of weeks now. Sure, it's not #7 on the hardboiled list anymore, but it's got steady sales.

The new novel, well, it's still struggling to find an audience. So, I've decided to try to get a little through this place. If you buy Confabulation, it'll enter you into a drawing

For one lucky winner, I'll buy you a copy of Hill Country or another title from Snubnose Press. Any eBook format will do. Or, if you prefer, I'll send you a pape...

TV This Week

Normally, I only make it a point to watch to scripted shows in a week. Castle and Person of Interest (yes, I watch cooking contest shows, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report as well.) This week, I watched Revolution (the pilot was enough to keep my interest) and the debut of Elementary.

First, the regulars:

Castle: It's hard for me to not like Castle. I'm a huge Fillion fan and the report between the leads on this who is done wonderfully. As for the episode, I thought it worked, but suff...

New Novel: Confabulation

I have a new novel available today, only at Amazon for now, but soon in print and other online outlets. It's called Confabulation. Here;s a blurb and some linkage:

Henry Adamson knows his wife is in danger. He knows someone at her company is planning to kill her. He knows it deep in his soul. He just doesn’t know why he knows it. Or when he found out. Still, he’ll fight for his wife’s life despite the uncertainty. Angry and half-mad from lack of sleep and fear, Henry nearly murders an innocent...

The Company Men - A guest post from Jim Wilsky

Jim Wilsky stops by today to share his thoughts on a film. One I haven't seen, but plan to. It struck a nerve with him, and for similar reasons with me. Some of you may find there's something in there that hits you as well.

And, while he didn't, I'd like to mention his book, Blood on Blood which he wrote with Frank Zafiro and is out from Snubnose Press (for purely unbiased reasons, I recommend all their books).

Blood on Blood at Amazon

Off The Record 2 - At The Movies

Luca Veste, this time with a hand from Paul D. Brazill, have gathered some writers again to help support charity. Last time, the cues were taken from song titles, this time from movies.

It was a different experience, as choosing a movie title creates so many visuals, but ultimately I chose a movie, Lost Highway, that I enjoy, but diverted from completely for my story. You'll be able to see this along with the others in a month or so.

From Luca:

It's almost time for the difficult sequel. Altho...

Protectors: Stories to Benefit PROTECT

A follow-up to the Lost Children anthology, Protectors again gathers some excellent writers to lend their efforts to support a great cause. Thomas Pluck, the editor and driving force behind this anthology and its predecessor, was kind enough to accept a story of mine into this.

I'm honored to be among such great writers and support such a worthwhile cause. You can check out the link to the Official Web Page below for information on PROTECT, the book and ordering.

Review over at Dead End Follies

Over at his blog, Dead End Follies, Benoit Lelievre reviewed Hill Country this morning.

I was pleased that he enjoyed the romp, as well as this specific comment:

A good part of HILL COUNTRY's charm is the growing symbiosis between Gabe and his absent brother Mike. They couldn't be more different and yet, they go through the same path and Gabe gradually understands more and more who his brother really was.

You can check out the rest of the review here:
