With a beautifully constructed plot, it is sure to transport you into the world of the dolphins. The book tells the story of how the dolphins live and it made me view the world differently. Not only is it interesting but there is an underlying message to humanity throughout that needs to be heard.
Thank you to the readers who share their thoughts about the book!

Dolphins hold grudges, researchers find
Dolphins seem to be permanently smiling… but it seems darker emotions may be bubbling under the surface.
After studying ‘alliance networks’ between male bottlenose dolphins living in Shark Bay, Western Australia, marine researchers now reckon the mammals can hold a grudge.
A team from Bristol University found individual dolphins responded strongly to the calls of ‘allies’ that had come to their aid in the past.
But they were more likely to ignore those who hadn’t previously helped – even if they had seemed on friendly terms.
Dolphins team up to hunt or protect themselves from predators and form social concepts of ‘team membership’, the study in Nature Communications argued.
Dr Stephanie King said: ‘Social animals can possess sophisticated ways of classifying relationships with members of the same species.
‘In our own society, we use social knowledge to classify individuals into meaningful groups, like sports teams and political allies.
‘Bottlenose dolphins form the most complex alliances outside humans, and we wanted to know how they classify these relationships.’
The study also found that dolphins co-operate with others that have not helped them directly, but have helped dolphins they know – suggesting the animals remember who is and isn’t likely to assist them.
The animals, the study highlights, work together for a number of reasons including teaming up to attack or protect themselves from opposing groups.

A great story, well imagined! – new review of Dolphin Way
This new review has just been posted to Amazon by Toni Chappell
This is a pacey story with a lot of heart and very important things to say about our oceans, the sentient beings who live there, and what they might teach us about good stewardship of the environment. Philosophical but not heavy-handed and an exciting read to boot! Highly recommended for readers of about age 12 and above…especially good for the YA and adult markets. Take it with you on your next beach vacation. You’ll have a great read and learn a great deal at the same time!

Researchers say whales and dolphins could get infected by COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic may not be limited to land mammals, according to new research.
A new study from scientists at Halifax’s Dalhousie University predicts that certain species of whales, dolphins, seals and other endangered marine mammals could be highly susceptible to infection from COVID-19.
The scientists say there have been no documented cases of COVID-19 in marine mammals to date, but both dolphins and beluga whales have been infected with related coronaviruses in the past.
“Many of these species are threatened or critically endangered,” says Graham Dellaire, director of research in the Department of Pathology at Dalhousie. “In the past, these animals have been infected by related coronaviruses that have caused both mild disease as well as life-threatening liver and lung damage.”
The team predicts that the majority of whale, dolphin and porpoise species — 18 out of 21 — have the same, or higher, susceptibility to the virus as humans, while eight out of nine seal species are also predicted to be highly susceptible to SARS-CoV-2.
There is also the concern that, because marine mammals are social, once one animal is infected it could threaten the entire population.
The scientists say the virus could be spread to the animals through improperly-treated human sewage and wastewater.
“Our major concern is in developing nations, where there is already a disparity in public health and the wastewater treatment infrastructure required to handle the COVID-19 crisis,” says Saby Mathavarajah, a Dalhousie pre-doctoral fellow who co-authored the report. “Monitoring susceptible species in these high-risk areas around the world will be pertinent for protecting wildlife during and post-pandemic.”
Studies have shown that SARS-CoV-2 is excreted in feces and can survive in water for up to 25 days, raising the possibility that wastewater could spread COVID-19.
The study points to examples of the virus being detected in untreated sewage in Spain, Italy and France.

“Found it very entertaining as well as educational and heard me saying wow more than once!”
A new review has just appeared of the audiobook version of Dolphin Way.
When I first ordered this book I thought it was going to be a childish rendition of dolphin society and their adventures, but it was so much more. I think every student should learn from stories like this it would make it more interesting for them as it did for me. Having said that this is not a book just for children and not at all for little children I found it very entertaining as well as educational and heard me saying wow more than once. I highly recommend this book and have nothing negative to say about it it was a wonderful read and I thought the narrator did an awesome job, he was great. This book was so so good. Dolphins are amazing!
