Teaser Sketches for A Royal Adventure

Soefara Janney, my genius illustrator, is hard at work on the sequel to A Day with the Duchess. I'm so excited about this book as it's set in London and takes place across the city but most of the action takes place in Kensington and you can pretty much guess why!!

Here's a teaser for you. The book is scheduled to be published in April and will hopefully be out in time for Princess Charlotte's birthday. Stay tuned.

Children's Mental Health Week: A message from HRH The Duchess of Cambridge

I wish there had something like this in Singapore. When I was a child, a student in schools, there was nothing like that here.  So I hope people in the UK support Place2Be.

Jordan Spieth at the Singapore Open

It's been a couple of years since Barclays pulled out as the official sponsor of the Singapore Open, and golf fans have lamented the loss of  the tournament that saw the likes of our own Mardan Marmat, Adam Scott, Ernie Els and  Phil Mickelson hitting the greens here.

Fortunately for golf fans, SMBC stepped in as the new official sponsor and the tournament came back swinging with top draw players like Darren Clarke, Singapore's own Mardan Marmat and the top ranked golfer in the world, Jordan Spieth!

Jordan Spieth
Over the past year the Spieth has won two of the most prestigious tournaments on the circuit: The US Open and the US Masters. And come summerr he'll be going for the ultimate trophy in Brazil: Olympic Gold! He even has his own LE Bobble head that was given out to the first 8,000 attendees of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. I seriously want one!

When I found out Spieth was the headliner of this tournament. I booked my season pass and swung by the golf course in the hopes of meeting him.

My friend a Ray was already waiting at the autograph zone and after a two hour wait, Spieth spoke with the press and came over to sign autographs for all the fans who were waiting. We almost missed out on getting an autograph because a camera crew was blocking us. We quickly ran around to the other side of the zone and were able to get sign our items before he was whisked off in his golf buggy.

Ray wanted to get a selfie with Spieth so we hopped in a cab and sped on down to the tournament's official hotel. After about a twenty minute wait, Spieth arrived and graciously agreed to pose for photos.

Two days later, I  went down for another round of golf and observed that he was just as kind and gracious with the fans as he was the day before. He's not just the #1 in the rankings but with his gracious attitude he's become # 1 with the fans as well. Long may that continue. Hey, I may actually write a children's book about this inspirational young man's journey to the top. Would you read it?

Getting Away, Finding Peace

I just popped in because I wanted to share a thought: Though our planet is plagued with seemingly insurmountable problems and we may have great pain in our personal lives, we have to remember there's still beauty in the world. Getting away always reminds me of that. Macy Gray sums it up best in this video.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Hello Everyone,

It's time once again for my Christmas blog post.  This is the last blogpost of the year and for the foreseeable future. Well, I wish I could say that it's been the happiest of years but by all accounts it hasn't. We all know what's been going on around the world, but I don't want to dwell on that now. It's Christmas!

Christmas time is a time for peace and love and goodwill among men, women, and children. It's also a time to reflect on the past year.

For me 2015's professional highlights include having a series of four books published by Gardens by the Bay, being the guest of honour at the Little Treasures Kindergarten Graduation, and speaking at both the All In Young Writers Media Festival and The Asian Festival of Children's Content.

As we all know, every year brings with it a series of lessons for each of us and this year was no different.  Some lessons have been a  positive pleasure; others powerfully painful. This is the most important lesson I've learned this year:  Cherish your friends and family for both their qualities and their faults, in good times and in bad; always try to treat them with kindness, honesty, love and respect no matter what the circumstances. For in the end, besides your family, your friends are the only ones on whom you can truly count and that fact should never ever be taken for granted. I never knew I had so many friends who, for lack of a better word,  truly love me and I love them loads in return. I'm an open book so they always know where they stand with me. And by all accounts most of them consider me a good friend too, or at least that's what they've told me. Words don't always express your love, affection and appreciation, and sometimes you can't  say what you want to say but actions do, and true friends will always realise that. Thank you to you all.

Recently, I have been keeping to myself for personal reasons. I have been taking and will continue to take an indefinite hiatus from facebook, twitter and this blog. I will be going away for some time for much-needed rest and recuperation and I look forward to a new year which will be filled with a sense of hope, loads of laughs, and the possibility of great happiness. Till then I wish you much love, peace and joy.

May everyone have a Blessed Merry Christmas
and a very Happy New Year

Goodbye and Lots of Love,
Dave xxx

SWF: It Runs in the Family

So I was back at the River Room of the Asian Civilisations Museum for the panel Kenneth was moderating:  It Runs in the Family with Xiaohan and her daughter Ashley Koh; Eliza and her daughter Gabby Tye.

Eliza is the author of the best-selling Ellie Belly series,  Xiaohan is an acclaimed lyricist and composer; Ashley is the author of The Wood Hut Fairies and Gabby is the award-winning author of the Run/Hide/Seek series.

The mums and daughters discussed their experiences working together. I, of course, had to ask what the girls would change about working with their mothers and not to hold anything back. I know, I know, I'm terrible but what can I say?

After the session,  there was an autograph session and so I asked Eliza and Gabby to autograph their books for me. Look at the sweet inscriptions they penned. It's almost as if I dictated them myself....Okay, I did dictate them! :P
