RELEASE DAY! Meet the Characters: River Road by Suzanne Johnson (& G*veaway)

Happy release day to me! River Road hits the bookstore shelves today, and I’m beyond excited. Royal Street was my love letter to New Orleans, but River Road is in many ways the first real book of the Sentinels of New Orleans series. We know the characters, the hurricane is gone, and things are settling into a new normal that, well, isn’t normal at all. Weregators, anyone?
Before I introduce you to the characters of River Road, a few announcements.

Read Chapter 1 of River Road (& Win a Copy)

Bear with me for some announcements...this week's winners will be announced here.

First, it's release week! On Tuesday, River Road, the second book in my Sentinels of New Orleans series comes out and you can catch up with what DJ and the gang have been up to since Royal Street. If Royal Street wasn't quite your cup of tea, give River Road a try--the hurricane is gone, the characters are back in normal mode, and it's a clearer picture of what the series will look like moving forward.

I've put so...

#Steampunk Friday Review: STEAMPUNK POE (& W*n a copy!)

Today, I’m looking at Steampunk Poe. It’s not a brand new release—has been out a while, in fact—but it somehow slipped past my radar and I wish it hadn’t. It’s a gorgeous book, with full-page color illustrations that are, well, gorgeous. The book combines some of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic stories and poems such as The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart, and illustrates them with steampunk-influenced art. Note: these are NOT Poe’s stories rewritten as steampunks, but...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

Preternatura Book Club: Harry Dresden, Fashion Plate

Welcome back to the Preternatura Book Club! We'll be talking about topics that are related to the book we're reading but are general enough for you to pipe up and voice an opinion.
Each book read will last four weeks, which is a much faster schedule than we've done on previous books. Today, we finish reading STORM FRONT, book one in the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher. We will take a couple of weeks off for some special River Road release week fun and a Thanksgiving special bl...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

New Releases Nov. 5-11 and Reader's Choice C*ntest

A busy-ish week in new releases as we start the march toward the holidays. I am SO not ready for holidays. Can we postpone them this year? Maybe until March? I might be ready for Thanksgiving by March. Maybe Christmas in June?
What do you want to read? As always, leave a comment telling me the book you’d most like to win (or the first in its series), and maybe random.org will make your wishes come true. If the book is part of a series, you can request the first book in the series....<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

Scene-Snippet Sunday: RIVER ROAD--DJ's Pjs (& Weekly Winners)

It's a very late episode of Scene-Snippet Sunday here as I traveled to Birmingham yesterday for the Southern Magic RWA's annual Readers Luncheon (fun!) then went to Montgomery to celebrate a friend's birthday. Home at last.

Today, we have a scene from River Road (only a week until release--yay!), that gives a taste of the kind of relationship DJ and her partner Alex have settled into now that the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina has passed. It is a scene I always liked and is actually...
