Hot Ink releases today - 12/15/11! (Contest + Excerpt)

It's finally here - Hot Ink release day. :) Hot Ink is now available and is popping up all over the internet at major e-book retailers. If you'd like a chance to win a copy, read on.

Mina never meant to fall for her sexy tattoo artist, Eric, or to become a model. But when she's asked to pose in a photo shoot for the Hot Ink tattoo studio, she can't say no.  She finally gets a look at Eric's tattoos when they're cajoled into posing together, and in a few breathtaking moments, an on-camera kiss turns the passion they're asked to fake into something very real, leaving them both wanting more. The only problem is that Mina's not the glamour girl she looks like on the Hot Ink posters, or even in a tattoo magazine. She's only twenty-four, but being the sole guardian of her disabled younger sister has left her feeling much older. Will Eric still be interested when he gets to know the girl behind the ink and the make-up and finds out that she and her little sister are a package deal?Click here to read an excerpt.
Click here to be taken to The Romance Studio's party site, where you can have your name entered in the drawing for a free copy of Hot Ink by leaving a comment answering a fun question about sexy tattoos.
Hot Ink is available at:

2011: The Sexy Things I Wrote and Read, My Favorite Books of the Year + A Cute Dolphin

As difficult as it is for me to believe, 2011 will be over in just a couple short weeks. Recently I reflected upon the past year and thought, what exactly did I do with 2011? Here's what I came up with:

Wrote a lot of sexy stories. Of course. Had six books published (when I count Hot Ink, which will be hitting virtual bookshelves in a couple days.)
First book of the year.
Last book of the year.
Visited a new country. Jamaica. I'd never been there before. It was a lot of fun!
I took this picture at our resort in Montego Bay. Was kissed by a dolphin.  Also, swam around in the ocean with her. I'd always wanted to swim with a dolphin - it was awesome!
This is the dolphin! While in Ocho Rios I also climbed the world's most beautifull waterfall, Dunn's River Falls.

Had this moment of fangirl glory.

No. 6 = My book (Demon of Mine)
No. 7 = My favorite book (Outlander)
The point = I was dorky enough to take this screen shot, forever immortalizing the moment of my novel rubbing elbows, er, pages with my beloved favorite Outlander on the category top 10 chart.

Read some great books.
My favorites of 2011:

Needless to say, I highly recommend all of the above books, if you're looking for some good reading to kick the new year off with.
Overall, 2011 was a good year. What about you? What did you do with 2011 - do or read anything interesting? Any plans/hopes for 2012? As for me, I plan to do a lot of writing (and of course, reading too!). ;)

Guest Author: Carrie Ann Ryan, author of An Alpha's Path

Carrie Ann Ryan just released her debut romance, An Alpha's Path. It's a sultry shifter tale, and is already an Amazon Kindle & B&N Nook best-seller! I'm sure that's sparked your interest, so today on my blog I'll be asking Carrie Ann a few questions about herself and her book. ;)
R: OK, first some questions to get to know you. JIf you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?C: Sarcastic, loyal, vertically-challenged (it counts as one word, right? LOL)R: So you and I have those first two traits in common. Although I try to restrain my natural sarcasm on the internet, for my own good. LOL ;)R: Do you have a favorite book? If so, what is it?C: I have too many favorites. But my favorite book that I've read this month was Courting Darkness by Yasmine Galenorn. If you haven't checked out this series, go forth and try it in all its darkness glory.R: I actually haven't read any of her work, but all that 'darkness glory' sounds pretty cool.
R: There are a lot of genres out there. Why do you write romance?C: Because I want happy endings. I relish in them. I don't mind reading UF or other types, but at the end of the day when the hero or heroine has been beaten down emotionally and often physically, I need to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Life in general doesn't always get that, so when I dive into a new world unlike my own, I want to see that happy ending.R: Same here. After I become emotionally invested in characters, I want to see them be happy!R: What's your favorite dessert?C: Cheesecake. Yum. R: A wise choice!R: Now some questions about your book. JR: An Alpha's Path is your debut book and is the first in a series about the Redwood Wolf Pack. What made you choose to write about wolf shifters?C: I've always liked the paranormal, and wolves have always been my favorite. Even when they were primarily the bad guys in the old days, I loved them. Mine are down to earth and are in tune with it as well. I love the animalistic sides and the two natured. This series will also have other paranormals, but you'll have to read to find out. :-)R: I like that your shifters are in tune with nature. I like the outdoors...well, except for bugs, and excessive sunshine.R: If you had the option of becoming a wolf shifter yourself instead of a human, would you?C: I would if they were my wolves, or others like them. I would love to be able to experience that. But if they were the walk on two legs, growl and lose their humanity type of wolves – then no. R: I think it would be awesome too! Back when I was in kindergarten, it was my dream to be some sort of shifter. Before it was cool. Wolf, tiger, dinosaur - whatever - anything other than a six year old kid! LOLR: One of the things I like about wolf shifters are the close bonds and strong sense of loyalty that hold their packs together. In your opinion, do these things make it easier or more difficult for a shifter to fall in love with someone from outside the pack?C: I think it can go both ways. I've never even thought about finding your mate inside the Pack. LOL At that point they are too close. I want that adventure of finding someone unlike yourself and introducing each other to those worlds. Yes, it may be difficult, but adding in new blood can invigorate a Pack. And my Pack is pretty cool about outsiders. I'm just nice like that. :-) R: That's a good answer. I suppose it would add a little excitement to find an outsider. Especially if it's like in Twilight and your pack-members know your thoughts. Personally, I'm glad my husband can't read my thoughts, and vice-versa. I think that'd put a lot of strain on a relationship! R: Describe Melanie and Kade, the heroine and hero from An Alpha's Path is just three words each.C: Melanie - Sarcastic, loyal, analytical. (Yes, she does sound like me a bit. Whah ah ah ah)Kade – Loyal, strong, AlphaAnd I do realize that those six words together, might not mix too well. That's the point of romance, is it not? :-)R: I like the sound of them both. :)R: If Melanie and Kade could spend a night and a day together at any location in the world, where do you think they'd choose to go?C: Hmm... I would think a place of beauty and natural science. That way it melds their two worlds. So maybe the Amazon or Egypt. However knowing them, they might not be spending too much time looking at the scenery. *cough*Thank you so much for letting me come and visit today! I'm super excited about my debut release and being here!R: No problem, Carrie Ann! Glad to have you here. :) An Alpha's Path
Melanie is a twenty-five year old chemist who has spent all of her adult life slaving at school. With her PhD in hand, she's to start her dream job, but before she does, her friend persuades her to relax and try to live again. A blind date set up through her friends seems like the perfect solution. Melanie can take one night away from the lab and let her inner vixen out on a fixed blind date - a chance to get crazy with a perfect stranger. The gorgeous hunk she's to meet exceeds her wildest dreams – but he is more than what he appears and Melanie's analytical mind goes into overdrive.

Kade, a slightly older werewolf (at over one hundred years), needs a night way from the Pack. Too many responsibilities and one near miss with a potential mate made Kade hide in his work, the only peace he can find. His brother convinces him to meet the sexy woman for a one night of fun. What could it hurt? But when he finds this woman could be his mate, can he convince her to leave her orderly, sane world and be with him and his wolf-half, for life?

Six Sentence Sunday - Hot Ink

Mina's skin pebbled as he obeyed, settling a hand on the denim of her jeans, and her nipples shrunk to what had to be an all-time record of tininess beneath her flamboyant red excuse for modesty. She clung to it helplessly, feeling as if she'd been swept out to sea by a riptide of hopeless longing. They were so close, she could feel his breath on her neck. If he knew how much that fact affected her, he'd probably think she was an idiot. In reality, she was a twenty-four year old with the responsibilities of a forty year old and hardly any more romantic experience than a teenager. It was a devastating combination, especially when she considered that she might have had a chance at feeling him touch her this way outside of a photo shoot if things had been different.

Holiday Blog Hop - Book Giveaway

Presents! I could have tried to sound more mature by pretending I don't care about materialistic aspects of the holidays, but come on...while it's not the best part, giving and getting gifts is fun, and well, the holidays are right around the corner. So I'm spreading the cheer here on my blog by participating in the Holiday Blog Hop giveaway for romance writers. It's really simple: I write this blog post. You comment on it. And then I pick a commenter to win an ebook of mine. The winner chooses whichever book they want.

And here is the part of the post where I post something festive and cheerful - perhaps even venturing in to the realm of the sentimental. Except...I've been working outside in the cold with my horses all day, which has left me very tired, and my brain is a blank as I hurry to put up this post I forgot to write last night (oops). So I'm just going to skip that and show you the books the winners can choose from:

Simply leave a comment on this blog post telling me something you enjoy about the holidays, and you'll be included in the contest to win one of the above e-books (in the e-format of your choice). Please be sure to leave your e-mail address or some way for me to contact you. I can't send you your prize if I can't get in touch with you. The contest ends at midnight 12/11, and a winner will be chosen and contacted soon after.
And of course...don't forget to visit the Holiday Blog Hop directory, where you'll find a list of lovely romance authors who are also hosting giveaways from 12/09 - 12/11.

New Book: Hot Ink (soon to be released)

I've been keeping a secret. A secret book, to be exact. I have a book that'll be coming out very soon, and I figure it's about time to announce it. It's a contemporary romance about sexy tattoos and well, see below:

Will Eric still be interested when he gets to know the girl behind the ink and the make-up and finds out that she and her little sister are a package deal?Hot Ink is coming this month (December) and will be my last book released this year. Although my 2012 publishing schedule starts nice and early in January. ;)
I'll post here, tweet and share when Hot Ink is available. :)

Six Sentence Sunday - Demon of Mine

Perhaps he was a demon. He certainly possessed the devil's own skill when it came to temptation. Her core clenched and her mouth watered, hungry for some taste of his body. It never occurred to her to lie. "Yes."

He growled again, sounding almost feral and desperate for something – for her, she realized as their mouths crushed together, merging at once into a dance of twisting tongues.

You might be an erotic romance writer if...

There are many things writers in all sorts of genres have in common, but there some things that apply specially to erotic romance and erotica writers. Based off of my own experience, I've put together this little list...

-You kind of hope that after you die, someone who loves you will toss your computer into the sea (where it will hopefully be swallowed by a shark and corroded by its stomach acid) so that no one will ever know all the things you googled in the name of research. -You sort your fan mail between regular correspondence and messages soliciting sex and/or expostulating about your secret wanton, unfulfilled sexual desires (as imagined by the person writing the message).-When people look over your shoulder at your computer screen, they either walk away giggling or very quiet with a funny look on their face.-Instead of setting word count goals for yourself during your daily writing, you promise yourself things like 'I will not stop writing until penetration occurs' (because really, after you get to that point, why not just finish the scene?).-You have a separate personal facebook account where you're friends with anyone you ever went to church with, and you're careful to keep it separated from your writing one. Except for that one time when you accidentally posted a link to a sexy icing-play excerpt (complete with mantitty book cover) to the wrong account. Oops. Fortunately that happened on a Sunday morning, so hopefully they were all too busy at church to see it.

****
Anyone have anything to add to this list? Or, what about, 'You might be an erotic romance reader if...' That could be good too. ;)

Six Sentence Sunday - Demon of Mine

Vampire. It was an old word from even older legends, some ancient superstition she couldn't quite bring herself to associate with the breathtakingly sensual man who was holding her so close, practically pleading with her to think him a monster. Feeling vaguely dazed, she said the first thing that came to mind. "If I'd thought them real, I would have imagined them much more frightening."He laughed, breathily and humorlessly. "Most find me adequately frightening."

Mini Marshmallows & Sweet Potatoes

I'm going to be up to my elbows in those ingredients in a few minutes, so I thought I'd give my weekly Wednesday blog post a holiday theme. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, after all. So before I knock out those pies and casseroles so I can dedicate my oven to the turkey tomorrow, here are a few things I'm grateful for as a romance writer.

Autumn LeavesFree stock images for one, so this post doesn't have to look totally boring.
- Readers (of course!). Especially the ultra-cool ones that send me nice e-mails.

- My family. Another given, probably, but how could I not list that when they dole out such sage advice as (this is from my grandfather): "Keep writing those sexy novels. Those are what women like to buy."  I'm not one of those closet erotic romance writers, so I don't have to fabricate any stories to tell my family about how I've been spending my time - that's something to be grateful for, as I need my creativity and brain-power for my books.

- My kindle. Oh, I remember those olden days of 2010, back when I had to trek to the book store and spend an eternity hoping to stumble blindly across an appealing book, and then dole out like $16 for something I could finish in two days. Those days were lame. I'm completely in love with my kindle.

What about you? What's something you appreciate? :)
