New Book News + Cover Reveal for Whiskey Dreams (a M/M romance)

It's one of those fun weeks when I get to use my Wednesday blog post to announce a new book. :) As always, I've really been looking forward to sharing this news. And there's some extra-good news at the end of this post. ;) So without further ado, introducing my soon-to-be released M/M romance...

The war that won the country its independence also lost many of the men who fought to achieve it, including Brom’s lover. More than a year later, he still feels as if he left half of himself on the battlefield. When a new schoolmaster comes to Sleepy Hollow, a spark and a whiskey-flavored kiss ignite feelings he thought were long dead. But in order to be with John, he’ll have to let the past be the past, or risk letting it destroy his opportunity to start over. And even then, loving another man is a dangerous endeavor.
****
Whiskey Dreams is the prequel to Haunted Passions . Both books are stand-alone titles and can be read in any order. For those who don't already know, Haunted Passions (a M/M/F ménage romance) begins when Brom and John have already been in a relationship for several months. Whiskey Dreams is the story of how they first met and fell for each other. After writing Haunted Passions, I knew I just had to tell this story too.
Okay, now for the extra-good news: when Whiskey Dreams releases, it's going to be free, for a limited time. :) It's been a while since I've offered a new free read, and this seems like a good opportunity. Whiskey Dreams is different from the free reads I've offered in the past / am currently offering because it's a novella, not a short story.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the release of Whiskey Dreams. I've really enjoyed writing about Brom and John, and I hope readers will enjoy discovering their story just as much. Whiskey Dreams will be releasing in May, and I'll keep my site / blog / social media up to date with the latest news.

Six Sentence Sunday - Haunted Passions

John hadn’t considered it until now, but something inside him snapped at the thought of Brom thinking of him even during the excitement of his own engagement party, of Brom braving the cold night to seek him out. When Brom’s lips brushed his jaw, he didn’t – couldn’t – pull away.

Brom was breathing slowly but hard, and the scent of ale was on his breath, along with the sweet, autumnal smell of pumpkin pie. It was another reminder that he’d been torn away from the party, that they weren’t supposed to be here, alone together. But they were, and John felt himself drawn to Brom like a moon to its planet. Every inch of his body flooded with heat as Brom stepped close enough to press against him.

A Bit of Drama & Hot Man-Love to Spice Up Your Wednesday

Confession: it's Wednesday and I still haven't quite emerged from my post-RT haze. And yet, the blog must go on. So today, instead of presenting you with some earth-shattering, hitherto unexplored new topic, I'm going to share a little excerpt. It's from Haunted Passions, and I haven't shared it anywhere else yet -- I chose this scene especially for today, because Wednesday needs to be more interesting. Cue the humpday jokes... LOL

****
Brom’s hand descended on his shoulder like a vice, and he felt himself being turned around, forced to show the window his back and face Brom. “You think that’s why I’m angry?” Brom asked, his voice barely above a whisper. There was a dangerous gleam in his dark eyes.John said nothing, but held Brom’s gaze, refusing to look aside. “Christ,” Brom choked out, “I hadn’t given the party a single thought from the time I noticed you were missing until now.” He leaned a little closer, and his breath warmed John’s face and neck. “I knew something was wrong as soon as I realized you were gone.”He must have been speaking the truth – why else would he have ventured away from the party and to the edge of the wilderness? John hadn’t considered it until now, but something inside him snapped at the thought of Brom thinking of him even during the excitement of his own engagement party, of Brom braving the cold night to seek him out. When Brom’s lips brushed his jaw, he didn’t – couldn’t – pull away.Brom was breathing slowly but hard, and the scent of ale was on his breath, along with the sweet, autumnal smell of pumpkin pie. It was another reminder that he’d been torn away from the party, that they weren’t supposed to be here, alone together. But they were, and John felt himself drawn to Brom like a moon to its planet. Every inch of his body flooded with heat as Brom stepped close enough to press against him. Now he could smell the musky odor of man, arousal and – was that fear? It wasn’t something he’d smelled before on Brom, and he could scarcely believe it. This unexpected revelation threw him off-kilter, and before he knew it, he was babbling.“I didn’t mean to upset you – revenge was not my intention. It was only that… I can’t bear it, Brom.” He squeezed his eyes shut and reached out toward the desk, blindly brushing the spine of a book again. “Before I came to Sleepy Hollow, my world consisted of books – of learning, and educating. Now I find that those things mean nothing to me in comparison to you and Katrina.” He opened his eyes to find that Brom was still staring back at him, his gaze intent. “For the first time, I stepped outside of that comfortable, solitary world and really lived. It was wondrous, at first, but now I fear that it will be the death of me.”“Don’t be a fool.”  Brom’s voice was low. “You were the one firing the gun.”“Only because I had no other choice. Cut off from you and Katrina, I’ll be thrust back into my old world, my old way of life. I can’t live that way anymore. I… I know I was a fool to think that I could ever keep either of you, but there you have it.”Brom’s voice was barely above a whisper, but edged with anger nonetheless. “What makes you think that you’ll ever be cut off from me?”His question sent a shiver down John’s spine, and he hated himself for the hope it inspired; it blossomed inside him like a weed, strangling his senses. For a moment, he could almost feel Brom’s hands on his body, his lips on his face. Before he could bring himself to respond, Brom pressed a hand behind John’s head, burying his fingers in his loose hair and cupping the curve of his skull.Brom’s lips were hot and firm, and they collided with John’s, shocking him out of his torpor. He responded the only way he could: with hunger. For several moments, Brom ravaged his mouth, biting his lips and slipping his tongue inside, tasting every inch of John’s. John kissed him back, just as hard, and was unsurprised when he detected the sharp tang of blood. Breathless, he leaned back, ending the kiss but staying close enough that he could almost still taste Brom.Brom still held John’s head, his fingers hopelessly tangled in his thick locks. As John let his lungs fill with precious air, Brom’s fingers tensed, threatening to force their mouths together again. “Mmm…” John was unsure which of them had moaned – maybe they both had. All he could think about was the jolt of sensation that had shot through his cock and up into his belly when he’d shifted against Brom and the man’s erection had rubbed against his. He could still feel it, thick and hard, straining Brom’s breeches. His was doing the same, and felt ready to burst.Brom sank down onto the edge of the narrow bed, pulling John with him. The mattress flattened beneath their combined weight, but the frame was sturdy enough to support them both. John thought of nothing as Brom slid his hands beneath John’s coat and began to peel his clothing away layer by layer. His own hands flew over Brom’s body, stripping him from his broad shoulders to his toes. It was only when they were both naked, their skin glowing in the moonlight, that coherent thought returned to John. “We mustn’t,” he said when Brom pressed his hand to the back of his head again, preparing to draw him close.Brom’s voice was a low growl. “Why not?”
****
Well, hope you enjoyed this peek into the beginning of Brom and John's problems. If you want to know what happened beforehand, and what happens afterward (hint...their nudity is certainly not wasted ;), you can download the sample from Amazon here , which includes all of Ch. 1 (which this excerpt was taken from) & part of 2. Or, you can read the very begining of the story here at my site.

Have a happy Wednesday! My brain should be functioning normally by this time next week...I think.

RT Convention 2012 - A Recap of My Experience (and photos!)

I'm not one of those authors who somehow managed to blog directly from the con in Chicago -- I had to wait until I got home and had a night to recover (aka sleep for more than a couple hours at a time) to tell you about my fantastic RT experience. So here goes...

My badge. Romance writing is probably the only profession in which it's totally normal to decorate your badge with shirtless werewolves and rainbow flags. RT 2012 was five days spent surrounded by other authors, readers and various other industry people, and let me tell you, that was a refreshing alternative to my everyday life, in which I write erotic romance full-time in a rather unexciting part of the South, where most people I meet don't get what I do at all. So just spending time with so many others like me was by far the best aspect of the convention. And there was certainly no shortage of socialization.

I spent a lot of time getting up to no good and eating deep dish pizza with my partner in crime, author Angela S. Stone.
And then, of course, there were the panels / workshops. Some were better than others, and I attended some that I really liked. By far my favorite was the 'Writing Sex Scenes Readers Won't Skip' panel. The authors conducting it were hilarious, and they had some legitimately awesome tips for writing the naughtiest book scenes, which is one of the things I enjoy most about my job. ;)
Among the people I met were new friends, and some I already knew online. I got to meet Claire and Heidi from my publisher Total E Bound -- they came all the way from England to be a part of RT!

TEB had the sexiest booth in Club RT. They also hosted a lovely publisher / author dinner (during which the wine flowed freely, and even made it into a few coffee cups LOL). The Total E Bound booth in Club RT.

Left: Heidi (PR and Communications)   Right: Claire (Founder & CEO)
A photo snapped from my corner of the table at the TEB publisher / author dinner.
At the TEB dinner (that's me on the far left). And thanks to a certain Lacey Thorn, scandalous things happened to a piece of tiramisu during that dinner, but I probably shouldn't blog that picture! LOL

I haven't mentioned the Mr. Romances / cover models yet, have I? Well, they were there, and Angela and I were kind enough to gather a bit of photographic evidence for you.

Now, one of the reasons I wrote this blog post was to share my experience with my friends who weren't able to attend this year. So I just want to encourage anyone who's thinking about attending next year to go for it. It's a great experience and you won't regret it. We romance authors often make online connections with others in the industry, but there's nothing like getting to meet, network and just plain socialize in person. Of course, there is a teeny-tiny bit of a downside... There are now a good many people who know just how much I have to censor myself online! LOL

And if you don't have anyone to 'go' with, don't worry about that either. Some people were surprised that I came in from the East Coast on my own, but that didn't really mean anything -- the only time I spent alone was for a few brief hours, during which I crashed and passed out in my room each night (and even then, a lot of people chose to stay with room mates -- I'm just greedy and wanted to have a room to myself, LOL). You'll make friends when you get there, really. And of course, you can arrange to meet up with me at RT 2013 if you'd like... Kansas City, you have approximately a year to prepare for our arrival. ;)

And to all the friends I made, can't wait to see you again! I hate to think that it may be another year before that happens, but 'till then, please keep busy writing lots of sexy books and coming up with new ways to ensure that we keep our status as the 'trouble making' table at the bar (although I don't know how anyone will top the methods Angela employed this year). Okay? Thanks!

Six Sentence Sunday - Haunted Passions

When he’d found out that his chances – however flimsy they’d been in the first place – of ever having lasting happiness with either of them were nonexistent, he’d realized that they were all he really cared about. At some point since he’d arrived in Sleepy Hollow, his world had shifted on its axis and begun to revolve around Brom and Katrina, his two secret loves. And now his world was over. Swallowing the last of his inhibitions, he pressed the barrel of the gun firmly to the side of his head. “Christ – Brom, Katrina… I love you both, but neither of you will ever belong to me, and it’s more than I can bear.”

P.S. I autoscheduled this post, as I'm currently at the RT Convention in Chicago. I'll be sharing my experience in a new blog post tomorrow -- see you then! ;)

Six Sentence Sunday - Haunted Passions

He was young, and more than a little afraid of death, when he really thought about it. If anyone had been there with him, they probably would have been able to see that, would have been able to read his face like a book. But he was alone, and morbidly aware of that fact. Another vicious breeze tore his ribbon loose and carried it away. His hair flew with it, each strand stinging his face. He relished the petty pain for what little distraction it provided from his greater suffering.

Releases Tomorrow, 4/09
Thanks for stopping by! Hope everyone's having a wonderful Easter Sunday. :)

Getting Ready for RT

Fact: no one, not even the people who love me most, will lend me their nice luggage.* I know this because with the RT Convention on the horizon, I've been trying to snag a nice suitcase to use for the week I'll be in Chicago. Of course, it's not like I don't have my own luggage, it's just that last time I flew, the baggage handlers destroyed my main suitcase. And I mean destroyed. I actually have no idea how they managed to do it so thoroughly in one round-trip -- maybe they morphed into Incredible Hulks and used my suitcase for a punching bag, after unlocking it and manhandling my panties. Because TSA always rifles through my underwear and then puts them back in the suitcase in a totally different location. Just one of the joys of flying I look forward to. Almost as good as missing my flight because of being selected for random extra security screening (during which TSA gave my wallet to the guy behind me), or having my hair manually searched -- because apparently, my curls are voluminous enough to hide weapons in. Or the security agent really just couldn't let me pass without running their hands through my glorious hair. I like to think it was that.

But whatever ramshackle totallly normal suitcase I may tote it all to Chicago in, and however many strangers may caress my hair along the way, I'm bringing lots of stuff for readers. And I don't mean postcards and pens...because there were so many more fun, much dorkier options available that I couldn't possibly resist. May I present to you, my Lonely Alpha buttons, of which I have lots...

Now you can pin a sexy werewolf to just about anything. LOL

I also have werewolf lip balm and werewolf-themed bracelets to give away. Can you tell what theme I'm going with?

Next Wednesday, I'll be at the convention, so I'll be skipping that weekly blogpost. However, the week after that I'll be posting about my experience, including photos. And I'll be auto-scheduling a Six Sunday post, so my blog won't be totally neglected while I'm gone.

Well, I've got my werewolf swag in order, but I should probably get to work on all the other aspects of getting ready. If you're at the O'Hare Airport and you see a brunette with irresistable hair pulling a ragged suitcase spilling werewolf buttons from a tear in the fabric, that's me...

RT Events you can find me at:

Ebook Expo & Signing: Thursday, April 12, 4pm-6pm

FAN-Tastic Day Party: 6:15pm-7:30pm

Oh, and of course, parties, parties, parties... ;)

*Actually, this is no longer a fact. :)

P.S. If you're not attending RT, but you'd like some of the werewolf items I'm giving away, be sure to subscribe to my newsletter if you haven't already. I'll be sending out my April edition in a few days, and this month's giveaway contest will be for a free ebook and a set of my RT giveaway items. :)

Talking Magic and Telepathy with Guest Nichelle Gregory, Author of As You Wish

It's Monday and I'm starting off the week with something extra-special -- a guest interview with Nichelle Gregory! :) Nichelle is from the midwest, a Sagittarius, and -- most importantly -- an author of erotic romance. Her latest release is a fantasy romance titled As You Wish, and in keeping with the theme, we're talking about magic and mind-reading.

Putting the cover of As You Wish first because it looks amazing! RR: Please tell us a little about yourself, Nichelle. How did you get into writing?

NG: I've been in love with books and writing since middle school. A lover of the arts, I enjoy anything that embraces the creative nature within us all. Bringing believable characters to life that thrill and excite my readers is a challenge that continues to push me. I love creating stories involving super sexy alpha heroes with divine heroines in magical, exotic, and fantastic scenarios!

RR: Sounds wonderful. :) Why erotic romance?

NG: I've always been a reader and a writer. I'm a hopeless romantic who enjoys reading and writing super hot stories! Writing erotic romance was a natural progression for me. I felt compelled at an early age to tell the stories swirling around in my head!

RR:  Thank God for hopeless romantics. :) If it weren't for them, the world would be missing so many incredible books, such as As You Wish. Was there anything special that inspired you to write that particular story?

NG: Mmmm...I love the whole concept of genies offering three wishes. I wanted to explore what would happen when the genie offering the wishes fell in love with his master and vice versa. Plus, a sexy man with magical abilities...the smokin' hot creative possibilities was too irresistible to me as a writer!

RR: I think a man like that would be irresistable to any woman. LOL Do you have a favorite scene or event from As You Wish? If so, what is it?

NG: Let's see, probably the opening scene when Karis meets Vander for the first time. Her visceral reaction to him and the immediate attraction between them was fun to write!

RR: First impressions can be fun, especially in a romance.

As You Wish is full of telepathic characters. If you could choose to have the ability to read others' thoughts, would you? Why or why not?

NG: I would want the ability, but I know I'd regret having such a gift. I tend to over think EVERYTHING! Can you imagine actually hearing what was being said about you and trying to act normal? *shakes head* Being telepathic would be more of a curse than a gift for me for sure!

RR: I'm the same way, and I agree. If you could choose one person in the world to communicate telepathically with, who would it be?

NG: My husband. :)

RR:  Do you think that being able to communicate telepathically would make things easier or harder for a couple?

NG: Both. It would be nice to know what the other person wanted, how they wanted it...*clears throat* but it would also to be hard to hear those thoughts we all have about our beloved partners. You know those moments you want to choke them to death? Hmmm...maybe that's just me. LOLRR: Oh no, it's not just you. LOL I have to say, it's probably for the best that my husband (or anyone else) isn't inside my head.If Karis and Vander, heroine and hero of As You Wish, could take a vacation together to anywhere in the world, where do you think they'd choose? NG: Somewhere tropical and practically deserted!

RR: If Vander granted you three wishes, what would they be?NG: Oh, wow! Let me think...1. World peace J2. Good health for loved ones3. True happiness for loved onesRanae, thank you so much for the fun questions and for having me on your blog! ;-)RR: No problem, Nichelle. I enjoyed having you here. :)
Book one in the Djinn Brotherhood Series

Six Sentence Sunday - Haunted Passions (First Ever Sneak Peek :)

He drew his pistol from beneath his coat, caressing the barrel. There was promise in every inch of the cold steel – the promise of oblivion. It called to him, the temptation carried on the biting night breeze. He glanced over his shoulder, promising himself that it would be for the last time. He heart jolted and sped at the sight of the large farmhouse looming in the distance, its windows glowing with candlelight. The spry, shadowy forms of dancers darted back and forth behind the glass.

And those six sentences are the first words I've shared -- anywhere, anytime -- from Haunted Passions. Hope you enjoyed them! It won't be long now before Haunted Passions hits virtual bookshelves. :)
