Vitacost: Buy One, Get One 50% Off Specials for March

Vitacost BOGO Sale

Right now Vitacost is running a great buy one, get one for 50% off special. I love these sales because it’s a great way to stock up on specialty products (like the Enjoy Life chocolate chips, which are sadly out of stock!) at a much lower price than most grocery or health food stores.

To make it even better, new Vitacost customers can sign up for a $10 off a $30 purchase coupon (with $4.99 shipping).

Combine these two offers to get $45 worth of products for just $25 — pretty sweet!

Here’s how:

Sign up for the Vitacost Rewards program.
Check your email for your $10 credit.
Once you’ve received your credit, shop the BOGO sale and add $30 worth of items to your cart (be sure to add 2 of each item to take advantage of the discount). Here’s a small sampling of the products included:

O.N.E. Coconut Water (11.2 fl oz), $1.99
Pamela’s Products Gluten and Wheat Free Pancake and Baking Mix (4 lbs.), $16.09
Woodstock Farms Raw Almond Butter Unsalted (16 oz. each / pack of 2), $17
Mary’s Gone Crackers Organic Crackers Gluten Free Original (6.5 oz), $4.59
Kay’s Naturals Protein Pretzel Sticks Original (6 pack), $5.99

Apply your $10 credit to your order at checkout.
Pay just $24.99!

I’m a member of the Vitacost Rewards program and earn a coupon if you sign up through the link above, but all opinions are 100% mine, and I really do regularly shop these sales myself!

5 Must-Have Secondhand Decor Items

The following post is from Myra of My Blessed Life :

5 Must-Have Second Hand Decor Items at lifeyourway.net

source: MyBlessedLife.net

I don’t know about you, but I am more than ready for Spring. I’m ready for yard sale season to begin along with longer {and warmer} days, more green, more sunshine and extra pops of color in my home decor.

When I’m out thrifting or yard sale-ing, I am always on the look out for old items that I can use in my home. Decorating with second-hand pieces adds so much character, depth and texture as well. I’ve been asked in the past how I find neat items and the honest truth is that sometimes you just have to dig for it. Other times, it’s just a waiting game.

For example, after looking for Scrabble games at every thrift store I’ve been to for the last two or three years, I finally scored two sets yesterday. The victory was sweet!

Here are five must-have second hand decor items that I look for everywhere I go…

1. Metal Buckets & Containers

Buckets and containers are incredibly versatile. They can be used for organizing, for flowers or even to hold utensils for a party. One of my favorite metal bucket finds is seen above. It is an old minnow bucket. I love the bucket’s rusty patina. Beautiful!

2. Insulators & Aqua Glass

I am a sucker for the color aqua. Old electric line insulators used to be aqua, and I’ve probably collected enough for a small electric company. Just kidding. I also love aqua Ball jars because they are perfect for a centerpiece of wildflowers, or even just as stand alone decor.

3. Old Books

Never ever leave the thrift store without checking out the book section. I’ve found vintage Childcraft books that are so pretty as well as children’s books and other books that I’ve cut up for wreaths or taken apart for a DIY Book Stack. Books are also great as accessories themselves. And, they make great risers.

4. Wooden Crates

Vintage soda boxes and old milk crates are on my favorites list too because of the great wood texture, painted or embossed labels and the numerous way they can be used!

5. Art & Empty Frames

Over the past few years, I’ve found a lot of pretty frames {large and small} at thrift stores and yard sales. I’ve even found a few oil paintings. I’m sure they aren’t super special to anyone except me, but I love that they are unique and fun. Empty frames and cheap art are nice items to add to a gallery wall.

Do you enjoy shopping second hand?

What is your favorite second hand decorative item that you always look for?

Myra has a B.A. in Interior Design and is currently self-employed. When she’s not spending time with her little man, thrifting, creating, shopping or working on a project, Myra enjoys date nights with her husband and blogging at My Blessed Life.

How to Build a Stockpile You’ll Actually Use

The following post is from Jessica of GoodCheapEats and LifeasMOM:

How to Build a Stockpile You'll Actually Use at lifeyourway.net

source: Br3nda

Editor’s note: There are a lot of great posts in the archives here at Life Your Way that don’t get much attention anymore, so I’m sharing a couple of my favorites each week. Do you have a stockpile of ingredients you use often, or does your stockpile feel like the place where pantry staples go to die? Jessica’s got some great tips for building a stockpile that you’ll actually use!

Building a healthy and frugal pantry can be a challenge. But, it’s a rewarding one. I love to cook, my family loves to eat, and all of us are happy knowing that what we’re eating is good for us.

Having a full pantry is a dream come true. When my kitchen is well-stocked, it’s easy for me to develop menu plans and to prepare meals that our family enjoys. Plus, if I’ve already got the ingredients I need, I don’t have to run out to the store and risk spending more money than I should.

Often we shop without a long-range plan; we buy what’s on sale or what looks good and we end up with a cupboard full of stuff that doesn’t go together. I can live without that; can’t you?

Want to build a stockpile that works for you? It’s easy and simple!

1. Make a list of 7-10 meals that your family loves. It might look like this:

Beans and Rice
Burritos
Tacos
Tuna Melts
Burgers and Fries
Spaghetti and Meatballs
Lasagna
Baked Chicken and Rice
Tuna Noodle Casserole
Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes

2. Make a second list of the ingredients needed to make those meals. Hopefully, there will be several ingredients that these meals have in common. If not, you may want to revisit your meal choices. Save recipes with specialized ingredients for special occasions.

canned beans
rice
flour tortillas
cheese
canned tuna
sandwich bread
ground beef
hamburger buns
condiments
potatoes
spaghetti
lasagna noodles
pasta sauce
chicken

3. Divide your list into two columns: dried/canned goods and perishables.

4. As you shop each week, be on the lookout for sales on these items. Buy extra lasagna noodles or cans of spaghetti sauce when the price is low and stash them in the pantry. If you see perishable items on sale, such as ground beef, buy as much as you can reasonably store in the freezer. Over a few weeks’ time you will have built up an inventory of ingredients you know you will use. Keep it up and it’s rare that you’ll ever lack the basics needed to prepare your 7-10 tried and true suppers

Keeping a pantry stockpile is like getting a free pass from meal planning and shopping. Sure you can keep buying and rotating your ingredients. But every once in awhile, you’ll be able to give yourself time off, something no one can live without.

What items do you stockpile?

MapQuest {iOS App of the Week}

MapQuest Mobile App

Despite their popularity and usefulness, we’ve never had a GPS for our cars (although we have at times borrowed them from family members). It was just one of those things we could never bring ourselves to pay for when we were so used to printing out directions from MapQuest.

Later, we began pulling up directions on the native app on our iPhone, and then last year I discovered the talking MapQuest app, and I haven’t looked back!

This FREE app gives you voice-guided, turn-by-turn, GPS-style directions on your iPhone. It’s easy to use and makes it easy to pull up restaurants, gas stations with one click.

In addition to using it locally when we’re headed to unfamiliar places, I used it when I took the girls to see Jonah at the Sights & Sounds Theater in Lancaster, PA, and we relied heavily on it during our anniversary trip to Charleston, SC last year. It’s accurate and simple to use, both of which I appreciate, especially when I’m by myself!

Download for your iPhone: MapQuest (FREE)

P.S. This one is also available for Android.

See all of our featured apps here.

How to Silence the Mom Critic

The following post is from Kacey of Well-Rounded Home:

How to Silence the Mom Critic at lifeyourway.net

source: Catherine

Most of us moms have a critic. She’s well-meaning alright, but she may just as quickly sap our energy, joy, strength and hope. She drags her disapproving eyes around our home and wonders why we fail to live up to our Pinterest boards.

She offers up perfectly-dressed moms who serve up delightful gourmet meals while simultaneously handcrafting Martha Stewart-worthy favors for their kids’ birthday parties and wonders why we can’t do the same. Her standards inch up daily. She keeps us running non-stop with an ever-growing to-do list and unreachable aspirations. She’s persistent in finding our faults. Persistent in comparing us to other moms.

That critic? She lives within each of us.

She’s a familiar enemy, and our legacy as moms depends on our ability to silence her. If your inner mom critic has you feeling tired, discontented and less than, it’s time to cut her off. Silence her with these five steps.

1. Realize there are no perfect moms. No matter how fabulous another mom’s life may seem, every single one of us has faults. It’s part of what makes us human. Just because you can’t see her challenges or witness her failures, they most certainly are there.

2. Do YOU! Each one of us moms has a specific and unique combination of skills, talents, and experiences that define who we are and what we’re meant to do. Own what you’ve been gifted because it can’t be duplicated.

3. Set your own goals. Instead of wasting away the days trying to keep up with everyone else, create your own big, audacious goals. What can you do for your kids, your husband, and yourself?

4. Make peace with baby steps. Have you heard the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day?” It means it takes a long time to do something important. We moms are without a doubt doing an important job. With this job, it’s impossible for us to do it all and to do it all right now. Steady momentum will take us further than a crash and burn lifestyle any day.

5. Find joy in the every day. Critics can’t stand being around happy and contented people. Every day, find a way to celebrate a success or express gratitude. Joy breeds more joy and renders the mom critic speechless.

Has your mom critic reared her head? Does she leave you with feelings of not measuring up to other moms? How would you tell your younger self to prepare for the mom critic?

With three little busy bodies to care for, Kacey is on a mission to take motherhood to the next level. Her blog, Well-Rounded Home, is filled encouraging words and inspiration for moms in the trenches with taking care of home and wrangling kids. She’s a die-hard Texas girl who loves her sweet tea and the word y’all. By day, she’s the marketing and client services guru for a small real estate investment firm.

The Simplest Gift

The following post is from Rachel of The Minimalist Mom:

simple meal

source: visualpanic

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”

~Virginia Woolf

We’ve received some lovely little clothes for our second son since he arrived. Lovely notes in the mail and hugs and texts and emails of congratulations.

Along with the thoughtful notes and tiny clothes, we’ve received meals.

We had a weekend of incredible dinners brought to us, enough for a feast and leftovers for lunch the next day. It was a bounty of salads, beautifully prepared meats and vegetables and fresh berries for dessert that left all of us very full and very happy. It was not only delicious but also unexpected and so very appreciated.

One afternoon I sent my husband a message saying I was very tired and that I would defrost something from the freezer for dinner instead of cooking. He replied that a coworker had brought in a meal for us that he was bringing home for dinner. Fortuitous timing that I was so grateful for. As we tucked into a hearty Thai inspired stir-fry that evening, I felt so much gratitude for the kindness of friends.

Every meal that has been made for us has been a delight in so many ways: a much needed reprieve from cooking, great fuel for the long nights of being up with a newborn and an inspiration as we tasted flavor combinations and cooking methods that were new to us. It’s fed us far beyond our bellies.

Giving a meal is such a simple gift and yet it has such a big impact.

A meal gives the gift of rest and nourishment. It’s fuel, kindness and a break in a Pyrex container.

It’s also the start of a chain of giving. Having a meal brought in a time of need reminds the recipient to pass it on and give the gift of a meal to others when they are able. I’m looking forward to returning the favor to these friends and also paying it forward to others.

A meal is also an easy gift to give: double tonight’s dinner or pull out that container of soup you just froze. It doesn’t have to be a meal you spent hours on or used expensive ingredients for.

It also doesn’t have to be the traditional gift of a casserole to feed the whole family.

Here are several ways to give the simple gift of a meal:

Bring lunch for a coworker.
Pick-up the tab when you’re out for a meal with a friend.
Pack a thermos of coffee and snacks to share with other parents at the afternoon soccer game.
Add dinner onto the next after-school play date.
Donate time or funds to an organization that feeds those in needs.

The gift of a meal is clutter-free, easy and one of the simplest ways to show you care.

Next time you are thinking of ways to help a new parent, someone recovering from an illness or a family struggling, consider bringing them a meal. It’s nourishment not only for the body but for the mind and heart.

P.S. Becky just wrote a helpful guide to organizing meals for those in need.

What are easy ways you have found to help those in need?

10 Productive Things to Do When Feeling Un-Productive

The following post is from Prerna of The Mom Writes :

source:geralt

We’ve all been there. You know when you just don’t feel like doing anything and yet know that you have to do something. Yeah, there.  When working is the last thing on your mind, but things need to get done.

I’ve been there more than once.

And that is why I have a quick list of 10 ways to productively procrastinate when I just don’t feel ‘productive’:

1. Brainstorm and mindmap. I’ve recently discovered Mindmeister and use it to map out ideas for future eBooks, eCourses or just a business plan.

2. Catch up on phone calls and text messages. When caught up in the busyness of life, I tend to forego making phone calls to friends or family. Times like these when I just don’t feel like doing anything are a good time to just chit-chat.

3. Go for a walk. And get some much-needed exercise and fresh air. Not surprisingly, when I get back, I feel much better and more focused.

4. Listen to music and meditate. Again, a great way to help recharge and relax.

5. Listen to music and dance. If meditation is not what you’re looking for, just dance the blues away. Really. Works.

6. Make lists. I’m a list-lover,  and when I’m not feeling the productive mojo too much, I make lists of all sorts of things. Room purges, gifts to buy, places to visit, books to read. You get the point, right?

7. Read an eBook or Kindle book. I collect {that’s right, collect!} tons of reading material on my iPad, and times like these are perfect for reaching out for one of them.

8. Speaking of reading, I also use times like these for adding free eBooks to my Kindle. If you want some awesome free eBooks to add to you library, check out Mandi’s other site. I visit everyday and browse the free Kindle books section for some great picks.

9. Make a dream board. I’ve recently discovered the joy of visualizing and love putting together dream boards. Whether it is for my ideal home office or just fun things I’d like to do, I find that creating dream boards juice up my productivity and knock out the boredom, easily.

10. Cook. Bake. Clean. I know, I know. You are bored, and I’m talking about cooking and cleaning. But hear me out. Cooking, baking, cleaning are all proven de-stressors and when you do them because you feel like and not because you have to, they’re great fun too.  Take my word for it and try it once. When you have the smell of fresh bread or yummy casseroles floating out of your kitchen, you’ll feel a lot brighter and better.

What productive  tasks do YOU do when feeling unproductive?

Prerna Malik is a mom, a wife, a writer and woman who believes in being postively productive, parenting with love and creating a home that invites you to put your feet up and relax. Find her sharing her journey and experiences with productivity and parenting at The Mom Writes.

Android 101: Flavors of Android

The following post is from Michelle of Mommy Misadventures :

Android 101: Flavors of Android at lifeyourway.net

source: FreeDigitalPhotos.net

There’s no question that Apple’s iPhone and iPad are the iconic smartphone and tablet, but frugally-minded consumers have often found themselves priced out. Google’s open source source mobile operating system Android helped to open up the market to a plethora of new smartphones, and later tablets, that can fit just about any budget.

Today, Android devices are available at just about all price points, from cheap pay-as-you-go phones to top of the line devices that rival Apple’s latest offering. While this means that everyone can afford a smartphone, no matter what your budget, it also means that you have to do a little bit more research when picking out your Android phone.

Here are some points to consider when shopping for an Android phone:

Not All the Same

Unlike Apple, who manufactures both the hardware and software for its devices, Android devices only have the operating system in common. Well known Android phone manufacturers include Samsung, Ericsson, Motorola and Huawei.

What’s Your Flavor?

Versions of Android are often referred to be their code name, usually named after a type of dessert. The latest version of Android is Android 4.2, codenamed Jelly Bean.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (smartphone)
Android 3.0 & Android 3.2 Honeycomb (tablet)
Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Android 2.2 Froyo
Android 2.1 Eclair
Android 1.6 – Donut

Like other operating systems, like Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, Android is ever-evolving and regularly comes out with new versions. Smartphone and tablet manufactures may also pre-install their own apps or further customize the operating system to suit their device. For example, the Kindle Fire runs a heavily modified version of Android Gingerbread.

Not Always the Latest Version

When you buy a new computer or laptop, chances are that it will have the latest version of Windows or Mac OS X preinstalled. However,Android smartphones and tablets can and often do ship with older versions of Android.

A recent peek at the Android Developer dashboard shows that just about half of the Android devices that accessed Google’s official Play Apps store during a two week period in January/February 2013 were actually running Gingerbread.

Not all apps are compatible with all versions of Android. The Google Play Store can tell you whether an app is compatible with your mobile device.

source: Michelle Mista

To check which version of Android your device is running, go to Settings and About Phone on your device, and it will show you the version you are running under “Android version”.

Little Changes Add Up to Big Changes {And Seventh Generation’s Healthy Skincare Line!}

Seventh Generation

source: Mandi Ehman

I’ve shared the baby steps of my green journey before, and I really am a firm believer in the importance of taking baby steps toward any change, whether it’s green living, eating real foods, getting organized or starting a business.

I’m also a big believer in doing what’s right for your family and not just following trends, and I’ve pretty much accepted that while I love homemade deodorant and we use coconut oil for a variety of things in our bathroom, I won’t be making all of my own personal care products anytime soon.

Which is why I’m pretty excited about the Seventh Generation skincare line, which is the first and only complete skincare line with the USDA Certified Biobased Label!

Made without petroleum or harsh chemicals, this line provides what your skin needs to be healthy — nothing more and nothing less. And it’s scented with essential oils, so it smells divine as well.

Seventh Generation sent us a few products to try, and I’m in love with the facial cloths (no more sleeping with makeup on — yay!). We broke the lavender body wash and lotion out of the box just in time to shower our youngest after she had an accident in the car, and as she showered, she kept saying, “Dis smells so good!”

I also love having the assurance of low 1 or 2 ratings on the Skindeep Database to know that these products are safe for our whole family!

Seventh Generation wants to get you started on your journey to natural beauty: Visit 7-Day Journey to natural beauty for tips and information on their new line of USDA approved biobased products ranging from facial wipes to body lotion!

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Seventh Generation. The opinions and text are all mine.
