The Tailor has been tasked to find the princess…

Upon decree from his king, Sebastian, Tailor to the entire kingdom of Dormiraa, embarks on the mission to fetch the Princess Thalia home, her seven year Royal Tour over. He didn’t expect to find her working with clockwork and gears, encased within a coffin of glass. He did not expect the sight of her wild black hair to set his heart to pound, or the flash of her dark eyes would heat his blood. He did not expect he would want her so badly, not when he could never have her.

The princess must become the Queen…

Thalia has always known she must return to the capital to prepare for the throne. She did not expect her father to send the Tailor to fetch her, or that this man with his extravagant clothes and subtle cosmetics would intrigue her so well. There was something about him, something that spoke of danger and secrets, even as his wicked mouth and knowing eyes made her yearn.

However, not everyone desires the princess’s return. When they are attacked, they can only turn to each other. Will they overcome status and secrets to discover a love for all time?

~ Excerpt ~

The discordant note of a missed strike sounded rose from the coffin, followed by a terse mutter. By the Maiden, was the princess cursing?

A sudden, terrible thought occurred. Was it the princess? Surely she wouldn’t curse as if she were a dockworker Maybe it was his source had lied about the gear worker being the lost princess. Maybe this wasn’t her at all, and he would spend another three months trying to find the erstwhile royal.

No. If it killed him, this would be her. He was not going to waste any more time on this.

So decided, he intoned, “Princess,” in the clear, strong voice he used to quell conversation.

The woman in the coffin—the princess, damn his eyes—started, and a loud clang split the air, immediately followed by one of those deliciously vulgar curses. Pulling out of the coffin, she glared at him.

His breath strangled in his throat. Heat stormed through him, his cock hardening in his too-thin breeches.

Thrice-damned god, but she was arresting.

Wild ebony hair escaped from the band holding it back while furious black eyes pilloried him, full lips pursed in displeasure. Her worker’s clothes revealed more of her form than they should, the homespun shirt opened to the middle of her breast bone. The undyed fabric seemed too rough for such fine skin, the dull, off-white hue a contrast with her dusky flesh. The brown leather harness of her trade nipped in her waist and cupped her breasts, while trousers outlined full hips and long legs, the latter encased in knee-high boots of soft brown leather capped with steel.

Quite insanely, he wanted to taste the damp skin revealed by her shirt.

“What do you think you’re doing?” she demanded.

She had to be the princess. Only royalty could deal such a stare.

“Doing?” he said.

She folded her arms beneath her breasts. He tried not to notice how her action plumped her flesh deliciously through the leather. “Do not come into a workroom and startle a gear worker, especially if she’s wielding tools that could harm her, the object she works on, and your fat head once she recovers herself.”

“My apologies, Princess.” He offered his most charming smile and ignored how the darkening of her scowl made him harder. “I am the Tailor, and I have been sent to fetch you home.”

~Exclusive Excerpt~

Sunlight played across Thalia’s closed lids, and, reluctantly, she admitted defeat. Sleep had fled, and she’d no recourse but to begin her day. Opening her eyes, she turned from her side to her back, the sheet tangling about her as her arm fell on the empty space next to her.

Surprise had her struggling to sit. Sebastian sat in the chair opposite the bed, the sketchbook balanced on his drawn-up knee. He wore only his trousers, his pale chest golden in the early morning light. Brow creased in concentration, his strong hand feathered the pencil over the page.

She watched him for a time, delighting in the play of smooth muscle. “What are you drawing?”

A ghost of a smile danced over his lips, showing he’d known her gaze had been upon him. “Nothing.”

“No, what are you drawing? Let me see.” Tugging at the sheet to ensure it came with her, she awkwardly walked on her knees to the edge of the bed and then stumbled to his side.

Smile firming, he watched her progress. “Have a care how you step, Princess.”

She ignored him. Ensuring the sheet was gathered over her chest, she looked at what he’d drawn. “Oh.” Her throat worked, strange emotion choking her. “You’ve drawn me.”

He’d drawn her asleep, her cheek against the pillow and the sheets draped around her. He’d drawn her with a gentle glow about her. He’d drawn her so she looked…beautiful.

Glancing at him, she found him regarding her, a half-smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as he watched her reaction. “I’ve also started your gown,” he said.

“My gown?”

“For your Confirmation.”

Still swamped with emotion, she swallowed. “Oh?”

“Here.” Moving the book, he tugged her into his lap. Arms encircling her, he held the book before them and flipped to the page holding the design.

Breath shallow, she tried to focus on the sketch, but the feel of his strong arms about her distracted her to no end. Beneath her, she could feel the beginnings of his arousal, his shaft growing solid and thick. He did nothing about it, though, and she fought to do nothing, too.

He pointed, the move brushing his arm against her side. “See this brace? It’s to be of leather, and mimic the harness of your gearsmock.” Lips whispered against her cheek as he spoke, and her breath seized in her throat. Her heart roared in her ears.

He traced a line just under her collarbone. “The neckline will rest here, following the natural slope, while the bodice’s fit will be snug enough to show your shape, but loose enough to be comfortable.”

His hand curled around her ribcage, his fingers dipping into her waist. Fire followed in the wake of his touch, and she bit back a moan.

His hand made a path over her belly. “I’m not certain of the waistline. Should it be natural? Raised? Drawn to a vee?” He traced out each one, his fingers dancing over her flesh.

She could stand no more. Turning in his arms, she took his mouth with hers.

He dropped the sketchbook and, pushing the sheet aside, he covered her breast with his hand, his thumb worrying her nipple. She gasped, pushing herself into his touch, wanting more, needing more.

His hand trailed up her thigh. “I’m glad you decided to show me the difference.”

“What?” she managed, focused wholly on the progress of his hand.

“The difference.” His fingers feathered over her core.

“What?” Gods, what was he talking about? Shifting, she let her legs fall open and pushed herself against him.

“Between not intending to seduce me”—he pushed through her wet folds, finding the center of her pleasure—“and intending to.”

Guest author: Tara Quan

With the holidays upon us there are troves of books to curl up with by the fireplace. My paranormal romantic comedy goes great with mulled wine and cinnamon cookies. Part of Decadent Publishing’s 1Night Stand line, Frosty Relations features a young college graduate facing the complicated world of adulthood and confronting the frost mage she’s had a crush on for most of her life. Add some Christmas magic and Madame Eve’s renowned matchmaking service, and we’ve got the beginnings of an icy-hot love story. Those who’ve read my Halloween release Flirting with Fire already know Jack, this tale’s hunk.

2014_11_14_TQ_FrostyRelations_Cover

Attorney Jack Frost never understood why holidays did weird things to people. His secretary went on vacation, his best friend ditched their annual Aspen trip, and the law firm’s stubborn human resources assistant refuses his clerical support request. What’s a warlock to do on Christmas Eve but go on a 1-Night Stand? But when an oddly familiar empath shows up as his date, this ice mage has a hard time denying the magic of the winter solstice.

Faced with an anemic employment market and financial woes, college graduate and former witch Mina Mao lands an HR assistant job at Frost and Sons. Having spent her day saving Christmas from Frost Junior’s Grinch-like behavior, she accepts the gift of Madame Eve’s service and heads over to the Castillo Capital. When her date turns out to be her childhood crush and workplace nemesis, she braces herself for the sexiest icy ride of her life.

~Excerpt~

Curious, she pulled up the accounting module and groaned when she read the current tally. “Please tell me mini-Frost already left.”

“No such luck.” Angela looked over her shoulder. “The invoices I turned in put Leo’s billings above his by a hair, so the Space Cadet is on a warpath. He’s marching down the hallway as we speak. By the way, what possessed you to let Beth take his overflow work this week?”

Mina furrowed her brows. “Why? She’s new, but I’ve heard she’s good.”

Angela rolled her eyes. “That girl spends half her day on the phone and makes careless mistakes. If she wasn’t tall, blonde, and busty, she’d never have gotten through probation. With the testosterone crowd, all she needs to do is bend at the waist and elbow-squeeze her boobs whenever she drops off a document.”

Sighing, Mina filed the information away and clung to a ray of hope. “Jack is young, male, and single. Maybe it’ll work on him, too?”

Angela snorted. “He grew up with us as babysitters, and we call him the Space Cadet for a reason. Do you know what that brat cares about more than womanizing?”

Mina shook her head.

“Proper usage of spaces, periods, apostrophes, and commas.”

Beyond Fairytales Blessings Blog Hop

2014_11_10_BfBlessings Hi peeps!

Welcome to the Beyond Fairytales Blessings Blog Hop! I’m so thrilled to be a part of this blog hop along with fellow Beyond Fairytales authors. This hop is taking the form of a scavenger hunt, where you hop to all the authors’ blogs listed below to find their personalised badges. Then, enter via rafflecopter and you could win a huge bundle of Beyond Fairytale stories! Sounds pretty awesome, right?

But first, let’s chat a little about my story, SLUMBER.

I was assigned the Brothers’ Grimm tale, The Glass Coffin. Now, I’d never heard of this fairy tale before, so it was straight to Wikipedia for me. When I discovered it was a version of Sleeping Beauty, the wheels starting turning and a short four months later I had the bones of an idea! Haha, maybe it didn’t take that long, but it certainly took me a while to get a handle on Thalia and Sebastian’s story. However, I’m super pleased with the result and I hope you are, too.

But now, on with the fun bit of the post. In SLUMBER, Sebastian teases Thalia with an old newssheet article of her antics as a teenage princess. For your delection, here’s the article. Enjoy!

Princess Tali Tells Tall Tale to Thelonic Beau!

Princess Tali has again found herself in hot water after being discovered locked in a torrid embrace with a hunky lad later discovered to be employed in the king’s stables. The young princess, who readers will remember was spotted kissing Lord Semlac of Sulibarr less than a month ago aboard her private ship, was seen to exit the bowels of the very same ship half-dressed and disheveled, the stable lad following close behind. What else can this author assume but the princess has made another conquest, one a little closer to home?

This author has discovered the lad to be of Thelonic origin, who are well known for their mastery of the art of amour. Previous to their discovery, Princess Tali was seen to be in conversation with her Thelonic beau, displaying flirty smiles and a light touch upon the boy’s arm.

The palace denies all knowledge of the princess’s involvement with the servant and instead remind this author of the king’s upcoming tour to Maramiral.

NaNoWriMo and EMERALD SEA

NaNoWriMo

This month marks NaNoWriMo, the time of year when peeps are challenged to write a 50,000 word book in 30 days. This year, I’m taking up the challenge!

I’ll be attempting to write the first draft of EMERALD SEA, the third in the Diamond Series. I’ve started this story, thought lots about it, but other commitments have kept me from progressing any further. No more! This month, I WILL get Hope and Jacob’s story down on the page and nothing will stop me. Well. Possibly Armageddon, but that’s unlikely. Right?

I’ll be offering updates on Facebook and via my Movember page (a worthy cause you can read about here). I hope you’ll join me!

Welcome to the blog, Jess Michaels!

Peeps, today we have Jess Michaels on the blog, chatting about her brand new release!

Have a Piece of Me

Hi everyone and a big thanks to Cassandra Dean for having me here today. If you don’t know me, I’m Jess Michaels and I write erotic historical romance set in the Regency period. It’s actually a big day for me because today is the release of my most recent book, A MOMENT OF PASSION, the second book in my Ladies Book of Pleasures series (A MATTER OF SIN was first if you are interested).

A release day is always a nervous day. I do my best to keep it together, but I admit I spend a lot of time rushing around, trying to spread the word, checking rankings obsessively and freaking out. I guess it’s because with every book I give away a little piece of myself.

First, I pour a lot of emotion onto the page. When I’m angry or sad or frustrated, writing can be a great outlet for me to release those feelings, but sometimes when I read back over a book when I’m done and editing, I can see little hints of themes in my own life in the themes of my books. I won’t say which ones, but now you can assume everything that happens to my characters happens to me, including the super sexy sex and the happily ever afters. It won’t all be true, but I like to leave you guys guessing.

Secondly, I think it’s impossible not to leave a little sprinkle of yourself in your characters. I tend to write female characters I’d like to be friends with and men who have a sense of humor, as well as dark sensuality. I don’t know what that says about me, but it says something.

Finally, when you are interacting with me or seeing me on a blog like this or my Facebook or Twitter on a release day, you are seeing me at the height of my hopefulness, my anxiety, my worry and my joy. Writing is my full-time job, how I support my family, so every release means everything to me. How the books do means everything to me. And I celebrate and cry and sweat it all out.

So here is a piece of me. I hope you enjoy it!

14_10_14_Jess Michaels cover 450x300

The Ladies Book of Pleasures, Book 2

When Lady Jacinda unwraps a scandalous birthday gift, she’s sure the anonymous giver is playing a cruel joke. The Ladies Book of Pleasures may be responsible for one gossiped-about marriage, but for a lady ruined by a rogue and shunned by society, Jacinda is doomed to a lonely, loveless future.

Worse, as she pages through the volume of passionate promises, she is observed by the wicked and dangerous Duke of Carnthorn—and now he is stalking her as a possible willing victim to his shocking preferences.

Jason, Earl of Northfield, is having none of it. Jacinda, keeper of his most painful secret, is a friend he will not abandon to a wolf like Carnthorn. As they embark on a pretend courtship—for her own protection, of course—their proper decorum in public melts into wicked passion in the bedroom.

But even as real feelings begin to develop between them, Carnthorn is watching. He is not convinced. And he is determined to possess Jacinda, no matter whom he has to destroy…
