Dear Adam,

Thank you for submitting “And We’ve Never Fallen” to Uncanny Magazine for consideration. Unfortunately, we’re going to pass on this one. It just didn’t work for us.

We look forward to reading further submissions from you.

Rejection: Cemetery Gates

Please note: this rejection was in response to a query. I chose to categorize it as a “form rejection.”

We chose the final story for the anthology this past week. Thank you for your submission, and we wish you the best in finding a market for your piece.

Rejection: Clarkesworld

Dear Adam,

Thank you for the opportunity to read “The Death of Science Fiction.” Unfortunately, your story isn’t quite what we’re looking for right now.

In the past, we’ve provided detailed feedback on our rejections, but I’m afraid that due to time considerations, we’re no longer able to offer that service. I appreciate your interest in Clarkesworld Magazine and hope that you’ll keep us in mind in the future.

Take care,

Rejection: Barrelhouse

Dear Adam,

Thanks for letting me read Cavendish. Unfortunately, we’re going to pass on this one. I’m sorry to have to tell you this via an obvious form letter, but we receive a very high number of submissions and sometimes don’t have any particular feedback to offer on a given piece. Thanks for thinking of us, and sorry this one didn’t work out. Good luck with this piece and your other writing.

Sincerely,

Rejection: Daily SF

Adam,

Thank you for submitting your story, “The Death of Science Fiction”, to Daily Science Fiction. Unfortunately, we have decided not to publish it. To date, we have reviewed many strong stories that we did not take. Either the fit was wrong or we’d just taken tales with a similar theme or any of a half dozen other reasons.

Best success selling this story elsewhere.

Rejection: F & SF

Dear Adam,

Thank you for giving me a chance to read “The Well-Warded Well.” Unfortunately, this story didn’t quite grab me for Fantasy & Science Fiction and I’m going to pass. But I wish you best of luck finding the right market for it and hope that you’ll keep us in mind in the future.

In the meantime, we hope that you are doing well and staying healthy.

Best regards,

Rejection: Fireside

Dear Adam,

Thank you for sending us “And We’ve Never Fallen”. While we appreciated the chance to read it, we’ve decided not to accept it for publication. This does not mean that your story isn’t good; it’s simply not quite right for us now.

Please don’t be discouraged by this form letter. Because we work hard to reply in a timely manner, we’re unable to provide specific feedback.

Thanks again. Best of luck placing this story elsewhere.

Sincerely,

[name redacted]

Rejection: Beneath Ceaseless Skies

Thanks very much for sending this story; I apologize for taking this long to get back to you. I’m very sorry it’s not quite right for me. I thought it had a very strong and intense vibe and mood, to the world and the society and the narrator’s mindset, and I found the narrator’s life musings interesting and their gumption in the face of such harsh treatment very sympathetic, but the story felt to me so starkly harsh that I was wondering why this world and its people were that way, but the story had left some background things less developed or unanswered, which for me, even in a story of such short length (where the quicker pace and lighter coverage often forestalls my mind asking questions), I couldn’t completely suspend my disbelief; such as why the father was so thoroughly nasty, how this world had settled upon such harsh laws or

customs, and why the narrator didn’t for example up and leave and go make their own way in the world.

I really appreciate your interest in the magazine! I hope you will please send more when you have it; I always enjoy reading your uniquely unusual take on things.

Very best,

[name redacted]
