A Joyful Surprise from my Friends

apgftt-002-1

They say if you count the numbers of your real friends using the fingers one hand, then you can consider yourself lucky. I was blessed by many friends, some close and some distant, some good and some barely make the requirements of a ‘friend’. But then I have “twin” friends that keep surprising me with unexpected things that make me happy out of the blue. Why? Just because they can. They ask for no recognition, not even gratitude, just for my happiness.

apgftt-001-1

For example, a big fat bag they had placed on my doorstep the other day and I came home to find it. Inside, a bubble wrap tied with golden ribbon with a purple post it. That post it, one with their handwriting that says “Because you’ve got the purest heart of them all.” meant the world to me. Why?

apgftt-1

Gestures from your friend gives your spirit an instant surge of happiness. Something warm and tingly starts at deepest hollow inside your heart and starts to spread as fast as the smile on your face turns into a goofy grin. Someone, somewhere out there, thought of you, remembered you, made the effort to put a smile on your face, just because you are you.

apgftt-006-1

I do get things sent to me all the time indeed, it’s not that I’m greedy or anything. It’s just… well, everything I’ve ever received was sent to Danderma the blogger, not for Nada the human being sitting behind the screen. Should I quit blogging, I doubt any knocks will be heard on my door. Any knocks except from the Twins and a few other friends that is.

apgftt-007-1

Now how beautiful is this little gold and sea blue ceramic dress, with lovely Arabian calligraphy spelling the Basmala in Arabic what translates to “In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful”? I love it! So beautiful, colourful and fun and traditional and modern.

apgftt-004-1

My dearest twins, I’m blessed to have you in my life. Thank you, for your little gesture reminded me that I’m a person, not just a blogger, and that person is worthy of being surprised and made happy. Love you two, and wish you all the happiness this life has to offer :*

Dinner at C-Omar in the Avenues

cospd-022-1

A while ago I’ve been walking in the Souk district of the Avenues mall when I saw a boarded up coming soon restaurant under the name of “C Omar”. C is a word used in Egypt for mister and if I’m not mistaken there is a black and white movie by the name of C Omar.  Therefore C Omar was clearly a new Egyptian restaurant and judging by the modern looking design and my love for Egyptian food, I knew I will keep an eye out for its opening.

cospd-1

cospd-001-1

Then I got an invitation to dine in C-Omar on the night before its official opening and I knew I would be going. One thing about 80′s children is that they’ve grown up watching Sherihan fawazeer on Ramadan TV, saw Layali Al-Helmiya and Raafat Al-Hajan with their parents, listened to Egyptian singers from Um Kalthum to Amr Diab, and are very familiar with the Egyptian culture and food. Plus, I spent the first five years of my life living in Egypt while my parents went to college there and I was always fascinated by their unique culture, sense of humour, and ancient pharos. I even wanted to become an archaeologist and spend the rest of my life digging for pharos treasures in Egypt but that obviously didn’t happen or else I wouldn’t be here typing this post while listening to my favourite Egyptian -and Arabic- singer, Abdulhaleem!

I’ve been singing Abdulhaleem’s songs ever since I sat at the table in C Omar yesterday and it had his face on it with the lyrics of one of his songs written on it on the place mat.

cospd-002-1

cospd-003-1

C Omar is designed to look like a modern Egyptian Cafe or Qahwa, with plenty of outdoors seating overlooking the Souk district walkway. You dine while people watching and I expect it would be an excellent place for breakfast too.

cospd-009-1

cospd-045-1

When we were seated we were presented right away with Termis topped with cumin. I have absolutely no idea what termis is in English, but you can think of it as Egyptian edamame that eaten as a snack while walking alongside the Nile river -I saw that in their movies-.

cospd-006-1

Also an Egyptian bread basket: fluffy brown Egyptian bread dusted with wheat grain and the flakey misheltet pastry that for some reason I don’t like and I’m thankful for that or else I’d weigh 10 kilos heavier. Misheltet is usually eaten hot and bubbling with clotted cream or honey or in Kuwait with Nutella or Kraft cheese. The Egyptian bread was delicious.

cospd-004-1

Then arrived an array of appetisers, so many there was almost no place on the table our cutlery!

cospd-010-1

First were the baleela, or cooked chickpeas with cumin and lemon. These were good and cooked to perfection. Not too soft and not too dry still. Give that lemon a good squeeze before you eat them to add more flavour.

cospd-018-1

Next came the stuffed vine leaves, waraq anab. Frankly I didn’t like them. They were sweet to start with and I like my waraq anab savoury and quite tangy. Plus, they had quite a bite to them and could definitely use some more time on the stove.

cospd-014-1

Of course there was the bowl of foul -fava beans- drizzled with oil, perfectly cooked and delicious especially when eaten with the Egyptian bread.

cospd-019-1

cospd-020-1

Rocket, feta, and pine salad. If you are a fan of rocket you will enjoy this one.

cospd-016-1

Hummus topped with fried sweet potatoes. Now this is a must try! The Hummus was unbelievably good and the sweet potatoes, though strange in such a dish, just contributed it to the awesomeness of the dish. Highly recommended.

cospd-015-1

Next came two kinds of falafel: Normal Falafel and Taamiya. I always though the two were the same thing, that Taamiya was just the Egyptian for falafel. Both were excellent and I enjoyed them immensely. The falafel weren’t oil at all and were more green than yellow from the inside, something I appreciate.

cospd-011-1

cospd-012-1

cospd-013-1

A delicious falafel sandwich drizzled with tahini sauce. Yum!

cospd-022-1

After a short break all the appetisers were cleared and out came the main dishes. We tried three main dishes. First, the macaroni béchamel, a dish you always see Egyptian families enjoying in their movies.

cospd-025-1

cospd-026-1

Next, Rozz Moamar with Chicken. Its more like the Egyptian version of a chicken and cream risotto. May I also add that the portion of these dishes would be enough to make an entire family full?

cospd-027-1

cospd-028-1

For fussy eaters who want something familiar, there is margharita pizza. Since the C Omar is by the same owner of Chocolate & Macaroons, Brown Tomato, and Croccante Pizza, you will know how the pizza tastes like and is a welcome item to an otherwise very traditional menu.

cospd-029-1

C Omar also have my favourite Egyptian main dish on the menu, Koshari. I didn’t get to try it though but I’m so going too!

cospd-017-1

Before desserts and tea I decided to peek inside the restaurant and see how it looked like. Quite tiny with only one table, but the chandelier and the pictures hanging on the wall of well known Egyptian actors and actresses, the likes of Faten Hamama, Omar Al-Sherif, and Sherihan to name a few, are lovely!

cospd-040-1

cospd-042-1

cospd-041-1

Next it was dessert and tea time. We ordered both Kuwaiti style tea and Egyptian tea that comes in a mug or a “Kobbaya”, my favourite way to drink tea by the way.

cospd-021-1

cospd-049-1

How cute is the little running man holding bread and chased by a stray cat on the little tea estekana?

cospd-047-1

cospd-052-1

For dessert we had a famous cheesecake, the muhallabiya cheesecake, that is available as well in Chocolate and Macaroons and is quite a best seller. Everyone loved it and if you are a fan of cheesecakes you must try it.

cospd-055-1

And of course, the one and only Um Ali! The lovely thing about C Omar’s Um Ali is that it contains no trace of raisins whatsoever, something I love and usually omit when I make my own Um Ali. A must try!

cospd-058-1

C Omar will be open today, at 5 P.M. so if you are a fan of Egyptian food and fancy some good delicious lunch in a new place with a great seating, you can head to the Souk district in the avenues and try their various other dishes. Thank you C Omar for inviting us over for dinner, it was truly our pleasure and we enjoyed our dinner very much.

C Omar is located in the Souk District of the Avenues mall right down the walkway from Cafe Bazza. For more information you can check their instagram account @C_OmarKW.

Sneak Peek: Fortune Cookie New EmChaknam Boutique in the Avenues

aspofcms-001-1

We were dining yesterday in the Souk district of the Avenues when we were joined by Areej Al-Kharafi, the creative mind behind Fortune Cookie Boutique. In case you haven’t been to Fortune Cookie Boutique before, it’s a wacky store in Olympia mall with unique and colourful modernised Kuwaiti interior and branding selling everything from Fred’s items to perfumes and home accessories to hip and stylish clothes. Areej then granted us a sneak peek and took us inside Fortune Cookie 2, which is her newest branch located in the Souk district of the Avenues mall as well.

aspofcms-1

aspofcms-025-1

Fortune Cookie 2 is much smaller than the first branch hence the name “Fortune Cookie EmChaknam”. EmChaknam is a Kuwaiti word that means little or cute and tiny. EmChaknam and cute it is! We started squealing in glee the moment we passed the threshold. Can you spot what made us first squeal? Sinbad’s head!

aspofcms-024-1

aspofcms-022-1

The heads of SinBad, Little Lulu, and the bee we called Bashar from the 80′s cartoons were all up there near the ceiling smiling at us, welcoming visitors and keeping watch over the EmChaknam.

aspofcms-001-1

If you were a child in the 80′s, this place would give you the exact same feeling of stepping into a time machine that takes you back to your childhood. We didn’t want to leave! Check out Grandizer’s head!!!

aspofcms-002-1

The funky interior was done by none other than the artistic Salah Zamani himself, owner of Barakasz designs (post). I’d say Salah has outdone himself this time, the place looks amazing and I gazed at those toy-based decorative arches forever! Do you recognise any toys from your childhood?

aspofcms-004-1

aspofcms-003-1

aspofcms-005-1

Check out the rest of the store, awesome little details here and there, you have to find them out for yourself and perhaps you’d start squealing behind your screen too!

aspofcms-014-1

I’m so going back to get me this skull glass! I’m in love!

aspofcms-019-1

aspofcms-020-1

aspofcms-021-1

aspofcms-017-1

aspofcms-011-1

There is plenty more to see at the store. Plus, Areej was playing us some cartoon and play songs from our childhood in the 80′s and we were all laughing and singing along as we took pictures. Those very same songs will be playing in the store and I assure you, you will not want to let go of the company of the child in you and leave the store. Thank you lovely Areej for the sneak peek and we are very proud of you, you and Salah Zamani did an amazing job! Keep up the good work.

Fortune Cookie EmChaknam Boutique’s opening is tonight, Tuesday 23 April, at 6 P.M. for more information you can shop at their online store (link) check out their facebook page (link) or contact them via Twitter (@FortuneCookieQ8) or Instagram (@FortuneCookieQ8).

An Encounter with an Angry Delivery Man

thdr

My mobile phone rang with a strange jumbled up number, over and over and over again within the space of a few minutes, until I finally succumb and answer it:

Me: Hello?

Man: Hello? This is house in -insert address-?

Me: Yes?

Man: I call you many time! I’m from -insert delivery company name here- and I have delivery for you.

Me: I’m sorry no one is home, can you please come back later?

Man *exploding in rage*: Shino hatha! Mako Kadama? Laish mako kadama ana shino ysawi? Translation: What’s this, don’t you have a house maid? Why is it that you don’t have a maid? What am I supposed to do now?

Needless to say I had to ask him nicely to wait for a few minutes because apparently my husband was on his way home. When my husband arrived to take whatever he was delivering, he almost threw the package in my bewildered husband’s face and stormed off!

With the rise of door-to-door delivery companies and since we rely heavily in Kuwait on the concept of home delivery especially given that we have no decent postal system to speak off, we encounter delivery men a lot. Sadly, many of them lack the very basic rules of human contact. They don’t just call, they shower your phone with calls and when you pick up they hang up so they don’t waste money on your call and you should call back. Or they ring the bell like there’s a pack of wild wolves running behind him about to close in. Oh and the latest trend? They don’t get out of their vehicles, they call and you are supposed to know that they are waiting and you should walk all the way to their cars to get whatever you ordered or is being sent to you yourself.

Quiet recently I’ve had some very rude ones shouting at me when I say no one is home. It’s not my fault you are delivering something to me without consulting me first. Since the things that are delivered do not conjure themselves out of thin air and must have had some sort of record made of them, it would be very much appreciated if the delivery company would waste a few fils on a polite phone call from a receptionist somewhere letting me know that a- I have a delivery and b- what would be a suitable time for us to deliver it for you. It’s not that hard now, is it?

When you arrive home at 9:30 A.M. do you think someone would be home waiting? Am I supposed to enslave a human being by making her my own domestic maid just for the sake of your convenience? How dare you inquire about my choices in life, scold me for them, and be all huffy and angry afterwards?

Is it just me who is noticing that delivery men are becoming very agitated and more rude lately? I can understand their agitation and frustration, the roads resemble a game of Mario Kart more and more with every passing day, but why should I suffer from their uncalled for behaviour?

A Few of my Favourite Things: Scented Candles

dlcal-002-1

I love to surround myself with beautiful things and one of my favourite things are scented candles. I adore scented candles, they are whimsical, romantic, smell nice, and add a warm glow to every corner of my home. Whenever I travel I always take a travel sized candle with me to make my hotel room feel a little bit more like home. I’m always on the lookout for good quality scented candles that actually leaves the scent behind even after its done burning. I cannot resist scented candles and keep trying them out but more than once I was left disappointed: it would smell amazing in store, then emit almost next to nothing while burning. My absolute and current favourite candle comes from Jo Malone.

dlcal-006-1

I buy the small travel sized Jo Malone candles and distribute them around the house. I take the small ones because they allow me to choose a variety of scents plus they can be taken on my travels. My absolute favourite, the one I continuously run out on, is the Red roses scented candle.

dlcal-005-1

I also love the Pomegranate Noir and the Blackberry and Bay scented candles but the Red Roses remains my favourite. Somehow the Red Roses is the candle with the strongest and longer lasting scent of all Jo Malone candles.

dlcal-001-1

My second current favourite scented candle comes from, surprisingly, Ladurée! I was in their first branch a few months back and I fell in love with their candles, they had the small sized ones but I didn’t buy them. I went back a few days later to get them but they were sold out and remained sold out for months, until they opened up their second branch in the Prestige district of the Avenues mall and started selling them again.

dlcal-002-1

If we are not supposed to have sugar and cream all day long, the least we can do is burn a candle that smells like sugar! I got myself four candles out of the six that were on display: Pralines, Wild Strawberries, and two more with French names but smelled absolutely delicious. The scent of the irresistible Pralines is my absolute favourite.

dlcal-003-1

dlcal-1

The scented candle on my bed stand is currently the Ladurée’s Wild Strawberries. It goes right next to my OSIM uMoments soothing sound maker and my dreadful alarm clock.

dlcal-004-1

I love my bed, I wish I was in my bed right this moment under the warm covers listening to the sound of Thunderstorm and inhaling the sweet scent of strawberries while reading a good book.

Do you love scented candles? If you do and you know of a different brand that produces nicely scented ones with a scent that lingers and doesn’t smell like commercial air freshener, please do share.

A Delightful Invitation from Triangle Restaurant

ttri-012-1

Event invitations in Kuwait range from plain emails to simple business-as-usual cards moving on to more elaborate package gifts with an embedded invite. Not every invitation I get makes it into the blog but this time the beauty of the invitation was worthy of plenty of pictures hence the post. This kind of invitation is one that I’d gladly copy or imitate to send to a loved one if an occasion -or no occasion- should rise. I love it when new invitation ideas come knocking on my door.

ttri-001-1

Triangle Kuwait is a newly opened, or relatively newly opened- restaurant in Kuwait City. I’ve never been there before but many people I know did and I’ve heard they hold Jazz nights, the latest ‘IT’ thing to do for restaurants in Kuwait by the way. On the occasion of Triangle Restaurant turning one I received the following very cute and delightful “bogsha” filled with flowers, a bottle of lemonade, a jar cup, cookies, and the invitation card.

My favourite part of any invitation is always the card especially if its handwritten. It’s the thing I cherish and keep away for the future to look back upon and remember my blogging days. I loved the card, all is well thank you and thank you for sending this invitation my way.

ttri-007-1

Opening up everything, its quite a spread.

Thank you Triangle Restaurant for the very attractive and quite delightful invitation. Happy first anniversary and wishing you all the best for many years to come. I’m going to try them out for the first time soon so, as a change dear readers, do you have any dish recommendations for me try? Vegetarian ones that is?

Triangle restaurant is located in Al-Jawhara Tower in Kuwait City, next to Salhiya Fire Station and Ubon restaurant. For more information you can give them a call on 50838483, check their website (link), follow them on Twitter (@TriangleKw) or on Instagram (@TriangleKw).

When Vitamins Make you Hungry

tbcd

Lately I’ve been having trouble remembering things especially when trying to recall events registered in my short-term memory. Since I’m a fussy vegetarian and can never get enough protein and nutrients in me, I sometimes take supplements and one of which is the Vitamin B Complex pills. They do help in the memory department and the overall wellness thing. However, their side effect is the visible increase in appetite which means you are famished, all day everyday.

I’ve began taking them before going to bed with lots of water, but then I’d wake up ready to devour a small whale. Currently I’m ignoring the hunger pangs and keep drinking water but I’m wondering if there is anything else that would counteract the vitamins open appetite effect? Something to do perhaps or a certain timing or something to eat that won’t make you gain weight like crazy because of the pills? Any suggestions?

Breakfast at Figs by Todd English in the Avenues

bafota-009-1

Ever since Figs by Todd’s English opened up in 360 Mall they served breakfast and judging by the pictures of diners I saw on instagram, it was a breakfast that I really wanted to try. However, I’m not much of a fan of Figs in 360, for one thing the seating area bears too much resemblance to the food court next door. I saw the pictures, got hungry, yet knew I’d never drag myself up from bed during the weekend to go to their 360 branch.

bafota-023-1Then I tried Figs the Avenues branch and liked it way better than their 360 Mall branch. When they officially opened and they started serving breakfast as well, I knew the time has come to have breakfast at Figs and last weekend I finally got the chance to do so. We were there at 9:30 AM yet the Avenues was buzzing with shoppers and when we reached Figs two tables had already been filled up with diners. We decided to sit outside on the balcony overlooking The Cheesecake Factory and the Grand Avenues and watch early morning shoppers. I love the weekend mornings

bafota-1

Moments after we were seated the waiter brought out the menu with pieces of baked bread and a small dish of olives in olive oil.

bafota-001-1

We started by ordering orange juice for me which was extremely fresh with no sugar added, something I truly appreciate. My husband had a “green tea latte sweetened with agave” that he claims was very good but it had an unappetising green hue and though he urged me to try it, I declined. I don’t think green tea with milk is a combination I could stomach early in the morning but to each his own I guess, he loved it.

bafota-002-1

I also asked for an Americano coffee and when it arrived I loved the presentation. The little porcelain saucer doubling as a mini tray, the two Oreo like biscuits. Very cute. The coffee was good too with a lovely honey-like crema on the surface.

bafota-003-1

bafota-006-1

bafota-005-1

The biscuits were a tad on the dry side, too dry to my liking but I guess you had to dunk them in the coffee to soften them up. They were very cute nonetheless.

bafota-004-1

I was really really craving pizza and I saw that they served ‘flat breads’ on their breakfast menu. When you read flat bread in a restaurant that has a wood firing oven and pizzas on their menu you’d think its a small pizza bread. I chose one with cheese and tomato and was expecting a mini margarita.

bafota-016-1

The flat bread was, however, based on something like layered filo pastry drenched with butter. More like open-faced croissant baked in the over than a small pizzetta. Of all the breakfast dishes I liked that one the least, it was too oily and slippery.

bafota-017-1

My husband ordered the mushroom omelette and it arrived in a little skillet like a baked fritata. The presentation was excellent and the omelette was very good.

bafota-014-1

My egg dish was the scrambled eggs with truffles. I love truffles and I only eat scrambled eggs so the moment I saw that dish on the menu I had to try it. It looked amazing for sure!

bafota-011-1

bafota-010-1

What about the taste? Tasted extremely good. The eggs were scrambled just right, not too runny and not too firm. The truffles added that rich touch and depth to the dish and the bread was firm enough to hold the entire thing. I could have done without the white sauce between the eggs and the bread though, it tasted too much like mayonnaise or a tangy sour cream and it didn’t add anything to the taste, just made the dish heavier. Next time I will order my truffle scrambled eggs without it.

bafota-009-1

bafota-007-1

Last but not least came our dessert: the red velvet pancakes. Three fiercely red fluffy pancakes stacked on top of each other with a layer of chocolate sauce in between topped with cream cheese frosting.

bafota-018-1

This is definitely a dish to share between four or more people especially after a hearty breakfast.

bafota-019-1

bafota-021-1

Was it good? Personally I loved it. It wasn’t too sugary, the pancakes were fluffy and the chocolate sauce drenched the inside of the pancakes stack perfectly. The cream cheese frosting did dry out on us as I took the picture and hardened but that didn’t stop us attacking the poor thing.

bafota-022-1

All in all, it was an excellent breakfast experience and I’m glad I finally got to try Figs breakfast. The food was excellent, our waiter was very helpful with his suggestions and very attentive. I had a very good time and I’m definitely going to the Avenues branch again.

Figs by Todd English starts serving breakfast at 9:30 in the morning. Figs first branch is located in the second floor of 360 Mall and second branch is located in the first floor of the Grand Avenues overlooking The Cheesecake Factory. For more information you can give them a call at +(965)-25309559, follow them on Twitter (@FigsKuwait), or Instagram (@FigsKuwait).

Alphonso, the King of Mangoes, is BACK!

nmafh-011-1

It’s no secret that I’m a star-struck Alphonso mango fan. If you’ve been reading my blog for the past few years you’d know that my love for them is fierce and that I celebrate its arrival every single year. If you follow me on instagram you would have already seen me hugging the distinguished blue and yellow Alphonso mango box to my chest as I was shopping in TSC. Alphonso mangoes are my favourite fruits, hands down, and I only eat the King of mangoes -Alphonso- and I only buy one certain brand of Alphonsos available in TSC that come in a blue and yellow box.

nmafh-002-1

A few years ago, around 3 or 4 to be exact, I learned about businesses in Kuwait that sell more selective gourmet Alphonso Mangoes and are shipped by the carton directly from India when they are in season (late March till late May). Those businesses even sold jumbo Alphonso mangoes! When I heard about them, I started placing my name on the order list but I never got any gourmet Alphonso mango boxes since I wasn’t lucky enough. The lists are long and the shipment always sold out before my turn came. Several companies and several years -yes years!- later and I finally struck gold!

nmafh-1

Last Sunday my box of Alphonso mangoes arrived straight from India to my doorstep. I hugged the box fondly, then let go of it long enough to go grab my camera and capture the arrival of long-awaited box of Alphonsos. I opened the box, deeply inhaling the fragrance of those mangoes, and I almost stroked each green emerald fondly. I knew it had to wait two days before they were ready and so I did. Impatiently if I may add.

nmafh-003-1

There are several gourmet mango companies now but the one that I got my box from was Nataa Mangoes. They have an account in instagram you can use to connect with them (@NataaQ8). Nataa means delicious in Kuwaiti by the way, and delicious they were indeed!

nmafh-001-1

Now some of the kings of mangoes have turned golden-yellow, it was time to try them. How different are they from the ones I usually get in blue and yellow box? They are 30% bigger in weight for a start, plus they are very firm and have no spots or strange things on them.

nmafh-004-1

Cutting the Alphonso mangoes is an art on its own. I usually don’t bother cutting it, long have I mastered the art of eating a mango with my bare hands and without wasting a drop. But my husband insisted on dissecting the poor mangoes and I was there for the unveiling of the golden goodness within.

nmafh-005-1

The moment the knife cut into the skin, rivers of mango juice started oozing out. I almost grabbed the mango and ate it right then and there. Taking those pictures took a lot of self-restraint that I don’t bother with.

nmafh-006-1-2

Cutting the once emerald-green, now golden-yellow mango into diamond-shaped pieces. The fruit is indeed the king of mangoes with a crown of gems to describe its beauty.

nmafh-007-1

nmafh-008-1

nmafh-009-1

Et voila! Dinner is served! Mangoes with slices of Kiwi and clementine. Yes, dinner. The Alphonsos deserve to have a major meal of the day designated for them, and not just merely a snack between meals.

nmafh-012-1

Mamma mia!

nmafh-013-1

I had my Alphonso mango for dinner with a side of…

nmafh-014-1

Another Alphonso mango! I’ve waited for those mangoes for years, literally years, and finally they are here and it was time to celebrate, and it’s still time to celebrate, and I’m going to celebrate them every day until the season is over insah2 Allah. The box of Alphonsos from Nataa costs about 11 KD and they aren’t that expensive compared to the usual blue and yellow box I buy from TSC for 9 KD considering the mangoes are 30% larger and more delicious. To order you can get their information from their instagram account @NataaQ8 but I must warn you, you might not be very lucky for there is a very long waiting list. I don’t think I will be able to get another carton of those this year.

Welcome back Alphonsos, King of the Mangoes, my beloved golden fruits. I’ve missed you, and I’m going to enjoy your company as long as you are here. More about Alphonsos from my previous posts can be found (here), (here), (here), (here), and (here). I told you I was crazy about those Alphonsos!

Dinner at Ribs and Rumps Steakhouse

Ribs and Rumps, an Australian steakhouse franchise and one of Kuwait’s newest eateries, hosted a blogger’s dinner a few nights ago. Ribs and Rumps have been in their soft opening phase for about a week or ten days now and when we arrived the outdoors seating area was busy with diners, the weather was sensational that night and perfect for dining outdoors and people watching.

The moment you cross the restaurant’s entrance you are hit with the BBQ aroma and if you are a meat lover I expect pictures of different cuts of grilled meat would start running through your head as you inhale, or so I was told by a fellow diner.

The bloggers were seated in the first floor area and we climbed a very long flight of stairs -no elevator yet, not recommended to climb while wearing high heels- to reach our table.

I loved the interior of Ribs and Rumps! All cement walls and wood and robes and chains with a dash of red here and there and big windows overlooking the street below. The top floor light fixtures are huge and gorgeous!

We were seated on a table with Ansam and her cousin Mohsin and we finally had our long awaited coffee outing, only it was more of a dinner outing. They’ve already ordered appetisers by the time we were seated and a few minutes after settling in and saying hello the appetisers arrived: grilled mushrooms and cheesy garlic bread.

There was no reason not to join the two appetisers together and have a bit of fun. Can you see the smily face :)

Ansam and her cousin already had this iced-tea looking drink on the table. I think it was drinking Arnold Palmer which is one of her favourite drinks (lemonade mixed with iced tea).

For their main dishes apparently all my fellow diners wanted burgers and thought ribs and steaks were too much to digest for dinner, so two big hamburgers and an order of three sliders – the hugest sliders I’ve ever seen- arrived next on the table with lots and lots and lots of fries. Mammoth size portions as promised by Ribs and Rumps!

According to my fellow dining carnivors, the burgers were juicy and very good. I have to say that it didn’t take long for every single piece of burger to vanish off their plates. Nothing was left but the bun crumbs. No steak or ribs were tried by them though, which is ironic since the name of the restaurant is ribs. However, next came the dessert that cannot be resisted, the sticky date pudding!

I hate dates and I don’t eat anything with dates, but when everyone on the table divided their share of the dessert they urged me to try it. When I did, I had my share and stole some from an unsuspecting fellow diner. It was that good!

Not to sweet, very sticky, very soft and freshly baked. Drenched from the top in toffee and soaked by vanilla ice cream on the bottom! Highly recommended.

We had a great time at Ribs and Rumps bloggers night the other day. Thank you Lujain Al-Fulaij and Dana Al-Salem for your invitation and hospitality and recommending the killer sticky date pudding! Wishing you the best of luck :)
