Aaron Safronoff's Blog, page 2

Sequels are hard...

Some of the outlining for Fallen Spire--the notes and expectations for characters and moments throughout the story--don't feel right anymore. Overall, from beginning to end, I still want to show the same images, but some of the details feel wrong. It's frustrating because I've completed a large chunk of the opening chapters, transitioning the characters and the reader through what happened between books, and parts are broken, or feeling contrived.
I know what I want, but I feel handcuffed by having split the story across two books. Still, I don't think I could have fit it all into one?

Back to work:D

indieReader Review!

4 out of 5!

"Verdict: Safronoff creates a riveting story, beautifully written, which--though it borrows from other sources--achieves a high level of tension."

And of course, thanks to everyone who has been providing feedback and encouragement over the last several months.

A little poem...

I'm still working on Fallen Spire and other longer material, but for today's update I went with another poem. You can check it out on the Not Science Fiction page of my website, http://wakingdreambooks.com/?page_id=65. I hope it is enjoyable even if it is a little brief.

My next update, for the 26th, will have a new short story. In the meantime, you can always check out my archive page for anything you missed:).

Holidays slowing me down...

It's hard to not take the time to be with friends, but on some level, I do think that my writing is an essential component of my happiness. If I'm not writing, I'm not progressing my life... or something like that? Anyway, I took a few minutes today to update, http://wakingdreambooks.com/. Check it out if you are interested in the Not Science Fiction Safronoff.

Otherwise, enjoy the holidays!

More active on WakingDreamBooks

I have a little blog outside of goodreads that I'm going to update regularly with works almost completely, but not entirely, unlike Spire.
Spire is by far my favorite work, and it has received the most attention and effort, but it is not my only work. There are many other facets of life that I enjoy exploring in my writing and I'll try to give those a little more shine and put those out into the ether.
Anyway, if you are interested you can check out http://wakingdreambooks.com/
I'll be updating a page I added there with new shorts, poems, and whatever, more regularly.

I hope I can connect with some of you in this new way... but if not, I am still hard at work on Fallen Spire. Promise:).

So many books!

Seriously... my kindle is overflowing. All of the sales have filled my reading list from now until, well, forever! I've got to update my goodreads to-read section and also, I have to learn to read much much faster. :)

Current Reading

Perdido Street Station (New Crobuzon, #1) by China Miéville Perdido Street Station is getting better and better. I sincerely enjoy the tactile nature of the world Mieville China has created. And honestly, I'm just loving the strange trip he's taking me on.
I'll probably write my first formal review once I finish the novel.

Then... it's on to my first Goodreads novel! Picked up Beyond the Stars: Kataria by Kelly Beltz.

Kirkus Review is in!

There is some criticism, which I expect and appreciate. Overall, I'm blown away by the review:).

Check it out on the website:
http://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-rev...

The last line just means I need to work harder to really get across the emotional connection I have to the characters, and strive to make that connection more immediately tangible to the readers.

Anyway, wow... pretty fantastic.
