A Father Who Keeps His Promises by Scott Hahn

This is another solid addition to Scott Hahn's repertoire of theological works. The subject of the book is covenantal theology, that is, that God's relationship with humanity is based in a series of covenants, beginning first with Adam and Eve and cu ...more

Terms of Enlistment by Marko Kloos

I enjoyed this, which I think is the point. But I also spent a lot of time not sure how to feel about it.

First, the most jarring thing for the average reader: present-tense storytelling. Mr. Kloos uses the method effectively, I think, because the sto

How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster

This was a good book. In a lot of ways, I think it's very important for people looking to study more about literature, to read it more in-depth, to understand some of those "hidden gems" authors slip into their works.

But it didn't really work for me

This is a quick one-shot book to remind you of what's important in your Christian life and--hopefully--to light a fire under you that will make you pursue God all the more.

Deacon Ralph Poyo very quickly (25 pages!) runs through the four pillars of Ca

Better Than Before by Gretchen Rubin

The short version: this book has good research and good ideas, but imperfect execution.

I think that a lot of the things Ms Rubin articulates are both informative and useful. Framing the question of habits in terms of identity and personality can be a

The Interior Castle by Teresa of Ávila

This book took me a really long time to read. It's not especially dense or complex (although it does get convoluted in some places). The real problem was that, for most of the book, I had little to no common ground with the author's experience. I kep ...more

The Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov

I finished this book some time ago, but never quite got around to writing a review. I hope I shall do it justice with retrospect alone.

It is difficult to say enough about the brilliance of Asimov's work. He always entertains, and his science fiction
