Hello and Welcome!
Hi. I just want to welcome the newest subscribers and say thank you for following. I only post 3-4 times a week, so, hopefully, we’ll stay connected for a long time to come.
Look back at previous posts to find definitions of travel words, courtesy of Merriam-Webster, and travel book and movie reviews. Be sure and see the photo gallery of travel pix. Check out the links page, with other helpful travel and travel writer sites. There’s also a titles page, featuring my books.
I hope everyone can find something interesting here on The Road Trip Writer site.
Stay curious,

HUMOR – MEDALIST HONORS
Commune: A Social Experiment
by Java Davis
COMMUNE is the story of an apple commune and the disparate group of wanderers who end up there. The commune becomes a microcosm of conflicts: dedicated vs. slacking, honest vs. traitorous, hopeful vs. cynical, and most importantly, connected vs. disconnected. Is one woman’s vision enough to carry the apple farm to a comfortable prosperity? In this piece of ensemble fiction, the diverse cast of characters includes Momo, the founder of the commune and legal owner; Maia, a former business school roommate, who has something to hide; Linda, another college roommate, who thinks a commune would be a fun vacation; Bobby and Baz, fraternal twins who have a differing view of farming; Dan, the supplies delivery man, who loves the parade of women who come and go at the commune; Dulcie, a bitter, displaced chef; Kick, a self-styled Buddhist; and many others. The future of the commune often hangs by a thread. Who can Momo count on for help when the going gets rough?

Thanksgiving USA

Thanksgiving USA
Two days ago was Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S.A. We remember the Pilgrims who came here to create spaces for religious freedom. Details of the history of the first Thanksgiving are sketchy. Was it one meal, or was it over several days? What was the menu? There’s a question as to whether the turkey was actually the first Thanksgiving’s main course.
I can tell you with complete certainty that, this week, I had the worst Thanksgiving meal I’ve ever eaten. It was a waste of a good holiday.
If you celebrated Thanksgiving Day, I hope your day was wonderful, although family holidays are usually much better in the anticipations than the actualities.

A Cord of Wood
When we bought our wood stove, we had many trees that had been cut down and further cut into stove-sized pieces. Two years ago, we finally ran out of our own wood. Now, for this winter, I ordered a cord of wood from a local tree service. I had no idea what a cord of wood looked like. It could have been a small box of wood, or it could have been an industrial-sized delivery. Blindly, I ordered it anyway.
A cord of wood turned out to be a boat-load of wood, not an industrial size, but a substantial amount. Here in Pennsylvania, the weather is turning cold. The big secret, though, is that the wood stove doesn’t really heat the room. It’s the IDEA of the fire in the wood stove that makes it cozy.
Tricking my brain into thinking that I am warm and cocooned is worth the price of a cord of wood.

Cyber Party
Last night was the virtual launch party for Bette Lee Crosby’s latest book release, What the Heart Remembers. I couldn’t imagine what a cyber party would be like. Well, it was fun and fast, taking place on its own Facebook page. Conversation after conversation would pop up, and it was a challenge to keep up with all of them. There were flash giveaways of different books and other items, and I was surprised to be a flash winner of another of Ms. Crosby’s books, The Loft.
After an hour and a half, my virtual eyes were closing. It was exhausting.
The reason this experience is worthy of note is because I’ll be hosting a similar cyber party, a Meet the Author, on Thursday, December 10, also on Facebook. I sincerely hope that this “seasoned citizen” is up to the task. I’m especially glad that it will only be one hour. I’m happy to give up that extra half hour.
Has anyone out there experienced a cyber party? Thoughts?
