1984 vs. Today
I was following a thread about comparing the book 1984 to the way we live today. Everyone was playing "Can You Top This" by finding ways in which 1984 has come to life in this country.
I find it appalling that people feel that the combination of government and organized religion have taken over this country and deprived us of our freedoms. I disagree strongly. Paraphrasing a politician, we the voters get the government that we deserve.
People feel disenfranchised today from our government, as though government were a foreign entity that we cannot control. it does what it does. It's terrible that we as a nation have lost the feeling that the government is us. The two parties are so polarized that people blindly pull levers for one party or the other without considering "the content of their character," to quote Martin Luther King.
From now on, let's agree to be careful with our votes. Let's vote with certainly and intentionality.
