BLURB
In America’s oldest and most haunted city, St. Augustine, Florida, Teenager Jeff Golden is in trouble. Horrible dreams won’t let him sleep, and he is up to his eyeballs in terrifying, paranormal experiences.

Finally, Jeff turns to his girlfriend Carla, and Lobo, the mysterious Native American shaman, for help. But what he discovers is a lot more than he bargained for.

A ghostly presence linked to a local historic cemetery is not only threatening Jeff’s sanity but his life as well. And before he knows what’s happening, Jeff finds both himself and Carla pulled into one of the nastiest and bloody events in Florida history. It is a place from which they may never escape.

EXCERPT
“OK,” she replied in a shaky voice after swallowing hard. “Thanks, but we‘ve got to find your ancestor, Jeff, and make him understand. The Seminoles are going to attack again. That‘s when Walton gets killed, and so do we if we can‘t change what‘s going to happen!”

“All right, tough lady,” I said, admiring her even more than ever. I knew she was right, but part of me wanted to hide her in the woods and away from danger.

“You bet I‘m tough, and don‘t you forget it,” she said, grabbing me by the arm and urging me towards the road. “Come on, let‘s go.” The thing is, as we started to walk, Carla kept hold of my arm. Her tight grip told me no matter how strong she sounded, she was still scared to death. Well, that made two of us, especially when we saw all the dead, dying and wounded men lying up and down the road. We tried not to look down too much, but we couldn‘t walk unless we did. In addition to all the men on the ground, there were overcoats, hats, backpacks, muskets, shoes, bayonets, and ammunition boxes all over the place.

When we got close to the dead horses, we started to go around them and not really look, but they were just too large. I mean those huge animals were like magnets pulling our eyes in that direction. Not a good thing. All of those bullet holes in them and tons of blood everywhere were bad enough, but against one horse lay a dead soldier with his head back and his arms outstretched. One of the animal‘s legs had kept him from falling down completely. The smell of blood in that area was overpowering.

“Oh God, Jeff,” Carla moaned as we both stared at him. A rifle ball had smashed its way through the man‘s right eye and into his skull. Blood covered half of his face and the front of his uniform. My stomach lurched and Carla doubled up puking. The poor kid. Man, I knew how she felt, but for whatever reason I didn‘t get sick. All I could do was to stroke her back and wait until the spasms stopped, but in that short time, I realized how much my view of war had changed. Never again would I think of a battle as some stupid little fact in a book nobody cared about.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥Buy NowAmazon / Barnes & Noble♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ExcerptI leaned back against my padded headboard and tried to calm my rolling stomach. As I sat there, trying not to barf a light sound caught my attention. It was the closing of the front door. I perked up, forgetting all about the fact I was suffering from an attack of an unsuspecting hangover. Had I forgotten to lock the door? I never forgot to lock the door. But I was usually not running from my best friend. Great. The one time I don’t lock the damn door is the one time a burglar decides to come a calling. Too bad for mister criminal I had a plan for something like this. I was the kind of girl that always had a plan. I crept into the bathroom, being as quiet as I could and reached into the cabinet. I pulled out my weapons (hey, all the crap that women have to do to themselves to look good definitely qualify as weapons.) and gripped them closely to my chest with both hands. My heart was beating so hard against my ribs that it actually hurt and I had to work to not gasp for breath. Catching my intruder by surprise was key to my plan. Moving quickly through the dark I moved to the bedroom door, leaning against the wall and peering out into the darkened hallway. I could see the top of the stairs from where I stood, as well as the railing that ran alongside the hallway to keep someone from falling into the stairwell from upstairs. Courtesy of the nightlight down in the entry way (it came in handy when I wanted a drink in the middle of the night) I saw a shadow move against the wall, the figure was large and distorted against the tall bare wall of the stairwell. Up until that point I hadn’t been certain someone was in the house. But now I couldn’t deny it. There was a robber in my house. He for sure had nefarious plans. Too bad for him I had a really shitty night and wasn’t in the mood. As his foot stepped on the bottom stairs I slinked out of the door and along the wall, keeping my eyes trained on the top of the stairs. He began climbing the stairs (I was very unimpressed with his quietness, or rather lack thereof.) and as he climbed I slipped along the wall, moving through the darkness until I was standing in the corner directly across from the top of the stairs. I saw his shoulders appear as he continued upwards. He was wearing a dark coat and a dark hat… he was nothing but a large ominous shape in the night. I swallowed, the sound of my saliva scraping down my dry throat made me wince and my palms were sweaty, causing me to tighten my grip on my weapons.

“Grab your jacket.” He wrapped his arm around her, pulled her in close, cupped her chin in his hand, and tilted her head up toward his, their lips inches apart. “Do you trust me?” His voice was husky, his breath warm and her knees were about to turn to jelly.“Yes, I think so. Do I have a choice?”“No. Close your eyes,” he whispered. She did as he requested as a weird sensation of air swept through every pore, every cell of her body.“You can open your eyes now, you’re safe.”Addie opened her eyes. He still held her in his arms, which was good because she almost fell over from the shock. She blinked as she looked around, recognizing Cael’s rented beach house, the red leather sofa and marble-topped coffee table from earlier that afternoon. It was dark except for the moonlight trickling in through the large window, giving the room a dreamy ambiance.“How did we ...?”Before she could finish her question, he lifted her chin up to his face and pressed his lips down on hers.Pushing away, she turned her face from his. “How is this possible? We were just standing in my apart ...”Without answering, he resumed kissing her. She started to pull away but then relaxed and tangled her fingers in his hair, pulling him closer to her. After enjoying the kiss for a few seconds, Addie came to her senses and shoved her hands against his chest, stopping the kiss. “Wait. You need to explain ...”Cael ignored her, silencing her with his lips once more. Addie lost herself in his tender embrace, unable to focus on anything else, which she knew was completely wrong. Every instinct told her she should be afraid, but she didn’t care. His mouth traveled down to her neck as she raised her head to accept the slight graze of his teeth and titillating touch of his tongue just below her earlobe, sending quick pulses of excitement though her body. She sighed, “You can’t keep silencing me with your kisses.”“It’s working so far,” he whispered, then brought his mouth back to hers...The rest of the Trilogy Reflections (Whisper Cape, book 2) and  A Secret Fate (Whisper Cape, book 3)  Available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble in both digital and print formats.

Thanking The Authors Blog Hop November 14 - 20

I signed up for this blog hop because the theme of thanking authors (even though I am an author) appealed to me so much. Not because I am an author, but because there are so many insanely talented writers in this world that continue to inspire me and make me proud of what I do. From poets to novelists and all the screenwriters and short story tellers in between, here’s to you! I thank you for your imaginations and the wisdom to execute them so that readers can appreciate and enjoy them.
Talented authors from Romance to Horror have created so many book boyfriends and swoon worthy heroes that it is getting hard to name just one. But, I'm going to ask you to do just that. I want to know which book hero comes to your mind when you think of the sexy, alpha, dream inducing man? And of course, I couldn't expect you to name only one without trying to do so myself. Yes, I am having a difficult time, but here goes. It would be Cian, the sexy, make-my-blood-flow-hot vampire, from The Circle Trilogy by Nora Roberts, my favorite author. Imagine yourself standing naked in front of a mirror watching your reflection as an invisible vampire behind you, touches you, fondling your ... uh oh, I better stop.
Are we hot yet? Go ahead take a couple deep breaths.

This is a blog hop so in keeping with the hop tradition and in honor of all the authors, I am offering two (2) Free Audiobook downloads of my very first novel, Whisper Cape. You can listen to a sample here.

Whisper Cape, Book 1 And if you feel like checking out The Whisper Cape Trilogy, follow the buy links, which will also give you the descriptions. Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to fill out the rafflecopter form below.

Good Luck!a Rafflecopter giveaway
And as always, Happy Reading and Listening!Susan

A Steamy Paranormal Romance/Suspense

5 Stars Phenomenal Book!!! Top Pick Review
- Night Owl Reviews

A powerful woman, an extraordinary man, and a maniac who wants to destroy them. Fate has brought them together, but will it make them stronger or destroy them all in end?

Escape to a world where the impossible becomes possible and sparks ignite.

WHISPER CAPE is a town of secrets and Addison MacKenna soon becomes tangled in a web of them. Plagued with nightmares of her father's sudden and brutal death, Addie struggles with her anguish and refuses to believe his demise was accidental.

Fighting to shake off one of those devastating early morning nightmares, Addison finds it even harder to escape from the vision of a man lying on the side of the road--a man she may have just killed. When she frantically tries to locate him, he seemingly disappears, just the beginning of strange occurrences in her life. She also cannot ignore the weird sensations in her own body. Suddenly, the impossible seems possible, but is that a blessing or a curse?

Believing that her continual and worsening nightmares are both the key to her own new abilities and the clue to her father's death, Addie knows she will not rest until she has the answers she craves. As she strives to cope with her new remarkable talents, someone else learns of her abilities--a disgruntled maniacal psychopath with his own agenda that involves eliminating Addie. The only one who can protect her, instruct her in the use of her powers and teach her how to destroy the murderous monster is the same man who makes Addie's heart race and her blood heat with passion. The same man she'd left for dead.

Cael Sheridan may be arrogant and mysterious but he's also undeniably gorgeous. A member of a secret society, he is sworn to protect the woman he believes to be the daughter of his recently murdered mentor. In the process, he finds it impossible to resist her magnetic sensuality, complicating his efforts to shield and guide her as she learns to manage her newly acquired skills. At the same time, Addison has much to teach him about trust and commitment. Will fate win in the end? You be the judge.

Reflections (Whisper Cape book 2)
Publication Date: October 8, 2012

Book 2 in the Steamy Paranormal Romance/Suspense, Whisper Cape Series
What if you heard a voice whispering warnings while you coped with a frightening pregnancy?
Knowing the future has its advantages...or does it?
Can love survive the reflections and memories lost?
Welcome to Maia's world.
Gerry has loved Maia from the very first moment he laid eyes on her and now that she's pregnant with his child, he's over the moon with happiness. Likewise, Maia is overjoyed about having Gerry's baby, but when she starts seeing and hearing an old woman who warns Maia about the pregnancy, Maia starts to think she is losing her mind. But Maia's nightmare has only just begun...

A beautiful woman, the talented lead singer in an up and coming rock band, sets her sights on Gerry determined to rekindle an old flame. But murder befalls the sleepy town of Whisper Cape once again, creating suspicion and betrayal, and a love once considered invincible, begins to crumble and fall apart.

Excerpt from Reflections:

Gerry sat up and rubbed his shoulder. “Thanks, Addie.” He followed her gaze to the place where they had last seen Cael. It pained him, but finally he said, “Addie. Maybe he can’t get back.”

“You don’t think Finn shot him, do you? Cael is strong.”

Gerry shook his head but wasn’t sure if she noticed. “No.”

“Once he got him away from here, I’m sure he used his skills,” she said. “I mean, Cael could take Finn in a fight anytime.”

“He might not be able to come back.” Gerry brushed a strand of hair out of Addie’s face.

“What? What do you mean?” She stood and Gerry got up with her. He moaned a little from the pain and stood next to her.

“I don’t think he got shot. I’m not sure exactly what happened to Cael. When the bullet hit me, I lost balance. He might have received some of my …”

“What? No!” Her face paled and she fought to take in air.

“Breathe,” he said, stroking her back as Maia walked up and stood by her other side.

“I don’t understand.” Her voice was barely a whisper. She walked to where Cael had wrestled with Finn. “What sort of memory were you sending?”

“That’s the problem.” Gerry shook his head. He didn’t want to have to tell Addie that she might never see Cael again.

Teaser Excerpt from A Secret Fate

He lay half on top of her, their legs tangled together on the sofa as their rapid heartbeats slowly returned to normal. He didn’t want to move or let her go, but he’d have to. He needed to get up and leave. How would he ever look Aiden in the eye again? What a mess he’d gotten himself into this time.
She sighed. “That was amazing.” Resting her head on his chest, she leaned her face to his and kissed him, gently, softly, then closed her eyes and rested her head. They stayed that way, silent, for a while.

About Susan I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, spending most of my time daydreaming or playing around in the mud. I grew out of the mud play, well, most of the time, a good soak in the mud is always fun. I still daydream often and sometimes my daydreams interrupt my daydreams. So I write to remember them. If I didn't write, I think my mind would explode from an overload of fantasy and weirdness. To the annoyance of my friends and family, my characters sometimes become a part of my world. During my childhood, I would frequently get in trouble in school for daydreaming. Eventually, my vivid imagination paid off and I had the privilege of writing and co-directing my sixth-grade class play—a dreadful disaster, though not from my writing, of course. I'm pretty sure it was the acting.

I enjoy writing about characters living in small quaint towns and tend to lean toward the unusual and edgy.

My paranormal playing field delves into a different milieu, abandoning vampires and werewolves, but not discounting them. Someday I might like to write a novel about vamps and those furry creatures. But for now I like the bizarre mixed with romance. A strong hero or heroine confronted with extraordinary forces of nature, powers and capabilities gets my blood running hot as does an steamy contemporary romantic suspense.

“Hello Kenzie.”
He turned toward me. I gasped in horror. He was faceless. His face was a black hole with no eyes, nose or mouth, like a shadow. Was this what ghosts looked like? I thought for sure they’d be white like in the movies. “Oh, I’m sorry,” he said. “Is this better?”
His face transformed before my eyes. Black turned into peach colored flesh. It stretched and bent to reveal a cartilage filled nose. Two eyes popped out, and ears broke through the side of his head. Lips, hair, a body, and clothes appeared. My mouth dropped open, and hung loosely as if it had come unhinged. I slapped my hand over it to keep from screaming.
“You don’t need to scared,” he said.
“How did you do that?”
“You think that’s amazing? I can do much more than that.”
I nodded, taking a deep breath. “I think that’s enough for me right now.” He moved toward me, crawling stealthily on the bed like a cat. I moved away from him until I was pinned against the wall. He smiled, revealing blood red gums and a perfect row of white teeth. His pupils were black, and the whites were filled with spidery red and purple veins. My body shook.
“Why are you scared, Kenzie? Don’t you recognize me?”  BLURB

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” I asked Tanner as I stared down at the foamy rush of water.
 “Breathtaking.”
I glanced up at Tanner who was staring right at me with a look so intense it caused heat to rise up my neck and spill across my cheeks. Taking a deep breath, I averted my gaze. I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone with the intention of taking a couple photos.
“So, you’re calling him, huh?” I tried to ignore the jealousy in Tanner’s voice; tried to tell myself it was just a figment of my imagination. I wanted to believe that Tanner only thought of me as a friend, and that he supported my relationship with Isaac. But deep down I knew that wasn’t true.
I shook my head. “No, I was just going to take some pictures.”
Relief swept over his features. He beamed at me. “Here, let me.” He grabbed the phone from my hand. Holding it out in front of us, he pressed his cheek to mine and snapped a shot. He was so close I could smell his aftershave lotion, and the sweat on his skin. My pulse quickened. My heart pounded in my chest. He turned to me, his face inches from mine.
I froze, unable to move or even breathe. His face came closer and somewhere in the back of my mind, alarm bells went off. I knew I should step back, or push him away. But my feet stayed rooted to the ground, like I was a tree on the mountain, a permanent fixture. I could hear the blood rushing through my ears, feel the beating of my heart. The world around us stopped. It was as if we were the only people up here. Tanner’s eyes stared into mine. I swallowed hard, and kept my gaze even.

EXCERPT
“What was that about?” Isaac asked when we got inside the house.
“What?”
“The way you said hi to your neighbor and then started looking in another direction and said hi again in a weird voice.”
“Oh.” I smiled.
“That’s just how I talk to kids.”
“Why did you do it right now though?” His brows furrowed in a look of utter confusion.
I was starting to get annoyed with this line of questioning. Can’t I say hi to a neighbor boy without getting the third degree? So what if I use an odd voice when talking to kids. Lots of people do. “Cause I was saying hi to the little boy.”
“What little boy?”
Cold slithered up my spine at Isaac’s tone. “The boy sitting next to Mrs. Kelley in the front yard.”
“There was no boy with her.”
I flung open the front door and raced outside, my heart thumping in my chest. Was I going crazy? I was sure I saw a little boy.
Relief flooded me at the sight of the child still sitting in the grass. I gave Isaac a triumphant look. “See. Right there.”
Isaac narrowed his eyes, staring in the direction I pointed. I expected an apology. Instead, he said, “Are you okay?”
“Fine. Why are you acting so weird?”
“Because there is no little boy there.” A chill brushed over my body, causing goose bumps to rise on my flesh. I glanced back at Mrs. Kelley who kept weeding, oblivious to our conversation. She also seemed not to notice the child, even though he practically sat on her legs. The boy’s neck craned to look at me, but he still didn’t smile.

Fearful, I raced back in my house. Why did I see him if no one else did? Who was he? And what was he doing next door?
