Tara Quan’s Operation Owl Tour of the Capital
~ The Key Bridge ~

I owe Jessica a huge thank you for hosting me today. I’m trying something new, which is to chat up my book prior to getting a firm release date. Because of my impending move to Rome, I may soon experience a prolonged Internet blackout and have prescheduled my stops. To the best of my knowledge, my latest multicultural romance from Decadent Publishing comes out some time in July 2014 (so, depending on when you stumble upon this blog, it might be available now). For updates as well as a chance to win a $25 gift card, drop by my website: TaraQuan.com/Owl

In honor of the place I consider home (what the government terms the National Capital Area), I’m dedicating the posts on this tour to Washington, D.C. and its surrounding suburbs. The romantic comedy I’m very blatantly promoting is set entirely in the US capital. A Beyond Fairytales adaptation of The Owl by Brothers Grimm, Operation Owl features a geeky hacker hero and his bookish best friend. They team up to expose a cyber conspiracy at the heart of the US government and end up indulging in some other equally exciting activities.

In this excerpt, I’m sharing a location in the capital over which I’ve walked, run, bused, and biked across a number of times. Lots of memories here, as well as awesome views of the Potomac River. I’m going to miss it.

Waypoint: The Key Bridge (an excerpt from Operation Owl)

“Fuck.” Zack swore as dark gray clouds unleashed a torrential downpour. They were on the Key Bridge, crossing from Northern Virginia to Washington, D.C. After having taken advantage of almost every means of public transport, to include the Capital Bike Share, they weren’t far from where they’d started this journey. Covering the last leg of the roundabout trip on foot ensured their safety, and, as his deplorable luck would have it, might result in pneumonia.

Maya walked next him, her shoulders slumped and her feet dragging. It didn’t take long for the steady rain to plaster her hair and sweatshirt to her body. Thank God, the top reached past her pert little butt. Considering the drenched condition of his own T-shirt and jeans, he was pretty sure her thin pajama shorts were now see-through.

The dark circles under her eyes were far more visible now than they’d been on the train two hours ago, and she hadn’t spoken a word in the past five minutes. He’d known her long enough to tell when her proverbial battery blinked red. “I’ll flag a cab.”

She glared daggers at him as she pointed at the bumper-to-bumper traffic. “It’s after nine on a Saturday. You’re not going to get a cab anywhere in the vicinity of Georgetown.” Pulling the sweatshirt hood over her already wet hair, she marched forward. “Wherever we’re going, we’d better be almost there.”

With her strides so short, it took him two steps to catch up. “Want a piggyback ride?”

“No.” Her response sounded like a growl.

He overtook her and stood in her path. “You’re limping.”

She pointed at her bare toes. “I have multiple blisters and I twisted my ankle getting off the damn bike. I told you riding without helmets was a bad idea.”

“Your foot got hurt, not your head. And why didn’t you wear sneakers?” Probably not the smartest response, considering the circumstances leading up to this moment.

She fisted her hands on her hips as she continued forward. “There was no time to tie the laces, and you didn’t tell me we’d be taking a scenic tour of three different states.”

Since she seemed unfazed by the prospect of ramming him, he started walking backward. “D.C. isn’t technically a state.”

“Tell that to my legs.” She kicked a puddle and sent water spraying over his jeans. Already soaked through, the additional wetness didn’t really matter. At least the temperature remained in the upper 70s.

He lifted his hands in a gesture of surrender. “Look. I know you’re tired. I swear we’ll fix that in about fifteen minutes.”

When she didn’t stop walking, he grabbed her waist. “Stop throwing a tantrum and let me help.”

Her eyes narrowed before her muscles relaxed against his fingers. Maya had a short fuse when her blood sugar dropped below optimum levels, or when she didn’t get her eight hours of beauty sleep, but her self-awareness made it easy to calm her down. “I’m sorry. I’m just hungry.”

He breathed a sigh of relief. “I know. You didn’t use to apologize this quickly.”

“I’ve grown up.” Her face scrunched into a mock pout. “I’m even over the legal drinking age now.”

He tried not to focus on the droplets of water trailing down her bare legs. “I would offer to carry you cheesy RomCom style, but my biceps aren’t as strong as my lats.”

Her lips curving, she playfully squeezed his upper arm. Her eyebrows lifted when she pressed down on hard muscle. He didn’t bother resisting the urge to preen. “Since when do you use bodybuilder jargon?”

“Since when do you work out?” He couldn’t help but notice the toned shape of her legs.

To his surprise, she shifted one leg behind the other, her expression almost shy. “I didn’t have much of an excuse with a gym next to my apartment. Besides, have you seen all the women in my neighborhood?”

He had noticed a high density of chicks running around in yoga pants and sports bras, many of whom had infants strapped to their chests. Arlington and San Francisco seemed to have quite a bit in common. “I guess we’re both susceptible to peer pressure. Now that we’ve established my physical fitness, why don’t you hop on my back?”

“I thought we also established I’m not a wimp.” She gave him a scathing look. “I can walk.”

Turning around, he patted her shoulder. “Even Wonder Woman can have princess feet. Come on, you know you want to.”

He heard what sounded like a splashing stomp but soon felt her little hands against his back. “Fine, but only because this is all your super-paranoid fault. The bus would have been just as safe.”

Bending his knees so she could grab his shoulders, he reached back and hooked his arms under her thighs. Needing a distraction from the warm, smooth skin against his palms, he argued, “I learned a while back caution pays off. I didn’t want to take any chances.” Not with her safety on the line.

She hopped up and looped her arms around his neck. “I’m heavier than I look, aren’t I?”

Having her luscious body pressed up against him, her breath warming his nape, bothered him a great deal more than the added weight. “I’ve heard muscle weighs more than fat.”

“Flattery will get you nowhere.” She nipped his earlobe.

Blood rushed to his groin. Fearing he might drop her, he took a calming breath. “What the hell are you doing?”

“What do you think?” Her lips continued to graze his ear.

He put one foot in front of the other. “I’m glad your mood’s improved, but stop playing,” he gritted out. “If we want to stay friends, we need to be careful. You know it as well as I do.”

She rested her chin against his shoulder. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

The time to put his cards on the table had come and gone but better late than never. “You know damn well I want to kiss you.”

“Of course.”

He almost tripped. “What do you mean, ‘of course’?”

She is curious about her alien in CELESTIAL SEDUCTION #MySexySaturday #scifirom

My Sexy Saturday

Hello everyone! Thank you for joining me for the 49th week of My Sexy Saturday. I’ve been away for two weeks with other events, but I’m back. :) Just to let you know, I’ve got The Freedom Hop going on right now, as well as my month-long giveaway celebrating 3 years published.

This week is all about our sexy heroines. You know the gals we’re talking about. We’re talking about those ladies who may start as a timid mouse and by the end of the book, we hear them roar. Or how about those heroines are kick-ass from the get-go. Or those who are wonderfully patriotic about their country. Even those who save their heroes over and over again. It could even be those who don’t realize they are saving anyone until the fact is done.

These are the women who make us groan with some of their decisions, make us delight in their every move as we watch them fall in love, reunite with an old lover or just come together in the heat of the moment. It doesn’t matter if the lady is rich, famous or a farm girl. She even could be a bad girl the hero is hoping to rehabilitate. Sexy holds delights for all our ladies as they fall in love or make passionate love anywhere or any time.

Today I’ve decided to introduce the heroine from CELESTIAL SEDUCTION,

my first story published three years ago.

Celestial Seduction cover

Set-up: Carrie has just learned that her date is an alien. While part of her wants to freak out, her curiosity rises to the surface.

She stood in front of him then and held out her hands. His black eyes met hers as he wrapped her hands in his. “You’re okay with what I told you?”

“No, but I’m trying to stay open-minded.” She tried to keep her hands from shaking even as she showed him she could handle the information. “I don’t feel like you want to hurt me though.”

He lightly squeezed her hands, a smile forming on his lips. “I would never bring you harm.”

Lifting one hand up, she gently placed it on the side of his face. “Will you show me what you really look like? I can see your real eyes, but I want to see the rest.”

“You won’t run away?” She winced seeing all of the confidence he’d had at the beginning of the night gone, but it made her trust him even more. “Whatever you do, please don’t scream.”

“I promised to stay the entire night, didn’t I? And don’t worry, I don’t scream unless someone sneaks up on me, or if I see a spider. You don’t look like a spider, do you?” The very thought sent a chill through her body.

He smiled, some of his confidence back while his human image flickered for a few seconds before completely disappearing. Unsure what to expect, she tried not to judge until she’d set eyes on his entire figure. Long, spindly fingers intertwined with hers. He tried to let go, but she held them tight. His body appeared taller and leaner than before. She saw the same black eyes, a less prominent nose and barely visible ears. His hair became jet black and appeared longer and curlier than before. Underneath luminescent scales, his skin shone a light blue.

~ About CELESTIAL SEDUCTION ~

At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun where his intended has already mated with another. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.

Carrie Cooper’s husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.

Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn’t human at all, and that one night can lead to a forever love.

Hello my dear readers! I’m excited to say that today I’ve officially been published for THREE years. On July 1, 2011, my first story, CELESTIAL SEDUCTION, was published by Decadent Publishing as part of their 1Night Stand series.

I still remember the evening (May 1, 2011) when I received a contract offer from Lisa Omstead for the story. I stared at the email in complete shock. The entire submission process happened so fast. I wanted to jump around and shout for joy, but my kids were already in bed. I have many people to thank for helping me to get that story published, including Carol Levesque, Lorna Suzuki, Layna Pimentel, Rebecca Royce, and Valerie Mann.

Since that day three years ago when my first story was made available for sale to the public, I’ve had twenty-three stories published, including seven self-published titles (two as Paisley Brown). It’s been an exciting ride where I’ve met so many wonderful people. I look forward to what the future holds in store for my writing career, as there will be some changes coming. All of them good, I hope.

I will be attending my first author/reader conference in 2015, and I hope to meet you there. If you haven’t heard about ROMANCING THE CAPITAL, hosted by Eve Langlais, check it out!

So, to celebrate three years published, I’m hosting a giveaway. Between July 1 to 31, you can enter to WIN the prizes listed below. Must be 18 or older to enter. Contest is international, but please note, THERE WILL BE NO SUBSTITUTION OF PRIZES. Good luck!

Delayna crawled across the bed to her nightstand. She pulled out a box of condoms and a bottle of lube. “We’re going to need these.” She then shuffled to the end of the bed, pulling him and Bo to stand before her.

Gazing up at them, she grabbed a cock with each hand. Oscar shivered in anticipation. A year of imaginings paled in comparison to the real thing. She drew Bo’s dick into her mouth first. He’d anticipated as much. She had to play favorites, but he didn’t.

He clasped Bo’s jaw and claimed his mouth. The man surprised him by responding to the kiss rather than pulling away. He lined the firm lips with his tongue, seeking entrance. He intended to pleasure them both. When granted access, he plundered the man’s mouth, taking all he offered.

“Holy fuck, that is so hot.”

They broke apart to see Delayna staring up at them.

Bo pulled her into his arms. “Maybe I’ve had this fantasy, too.”

Together, they rained kisses up and down the sides of her body, savoring every inch. Oscar edged slowly around to her front to taste more. He gently sucked her breasts, swirling his tongue around her tits. But she wouldn’t have that. She fell to her knees, encasing his dick with her magical mouth. So warm. Not giving Bo a chance to object, he leaned over Delayna and took in the man’s erect rod. It didn’t take long for Bo to grasp his head and thrust deep inside. His thighs tightened as if he was ready, but Oscar stared up at him and squeezed his sack to prevent him from coming. Not yet, big boy.

The man backed away and laid his wife on the bed, then met his gaze. “I want to see you lick her cunt. And if I’m satisfied, I’ll suck that big prick of yours.”

He shuddered at the thought. Bo was more into the ménage than he’d expected. Oscar dove between her legs, eager to eat her sex-swollen pussy. With his first lick, she arched, grinding against his face. He plunged deeper, sampling her sweet honey.

Did you enjoy that?

Where the hell am I?

Not the most original question, I know, but it’s the best place to start. The only place. I don’t know where I am. I can’t remember where I was. What I was. But nothing about this place is familiar, and some part of me didn’t expect this.

There’s a line of people all the way to infinity. I’m not exaggerating—I do mean infinity. And it hurts to look at it because the human mind can’t handle that. Not completely. You think you know how that looks? You don’t. You can’t. Try to imagine the whole of creation. Can you see every last ant, every last star? No.

Around us—well, it’s a big gray hall. A really, really huge space, like an aircraft hangar kind of place, only no planes and no doors. In fact, no walls or roof either. The edges just blur into the darkness, as though none of it exists except the floor we’re standing on, and I’m not even sure about that. Looking up makes me giddy. You know when you’re dizzy from spinning around, and you lay down, but you feel as if you just keep on falling? That. So I don’t try it again. I keep my eyes away from the endless line of other people waiting. Instead, I stare at the back of the person in front of me and try not to think about where I am and what may be going on. Because now I have a nasty suspicion about it and what might have happened. My mind scurries away from the thought. This ain’t good.

Oh, by the by, my name is Luke Chester. That much I do know. I can’t be that old—my hands aren’t wrinkled or calloused, although there’s a cool scar across my left palm. My skin is pale gray. So are the long sleeves of my T-shirt. In fact everyone and everything is gray, just like the room. I stare at the guy in front of me, hoping for some clues. He has dreadlocks and his skin is so dark as to be almost black. He’s wearing a tank top, torn and covered with dark streaks that something tells me should be red, but, like everything else here, have no color. There are two deep slashes in the back of his neck, and more on his arms. They aren’t bleeding though. I guess they’ve all dried up, or maybe he’s all bled out. His jeans are ripped too, although that could be a fashion thing. I can’t see any wounds on his legs.

I look down at myself. My jeans are in one piece, but my feet are bare. I wriggle my toes and watch them dance like I’ve never seen them move before. I can’t feel the ground. I don’t feel warm or cold, just kind of numb, and distant. It’s as if I’m not really here, but clearly I am. What happened to me? How did I get here? That bothers me. I shouldn’t be here. Then again, I’m not sure where else I should be.

Chapter One

It’s time to take our relationship to the next level.

The text had Brook’s heart racing ninety miles a minute. Jason had to mean marriage, right? They’d been together for almost a year. Engagement is the obvious next step.

Sucking in a deep breath, Brook opened the bedroom door. What would she find on the other side? She stepped inside and stared. Jason rested on the bed, naked, a sheen of sweat covering his golden skin. A dream come true. Yet, the sheets lay rumpled underneath him, as if she had already been intimate with Jason. She’d left the bed made before reporting to Planet Core for the day. Had he fallen asleep before she returned?

Jason grinned, his heart-warming smile melting her inside. The bed didn’t matter. She was home with her boyfriend, bouncing on her toes, anticipating his proposal.

Everyone, including her father, believed their relationship wouldn’t last. Friends had repeatedly voiced their objections then stopped coming over altogether when she refused to ditch Jason. He’d changed his playboy ways for her, and now he was ready to commit the rest of his life to her. He would prove them all wrong. After tonight, they could apply to be married.

She returned his smile, butterflies swarming in her stomach. “Hi, honey.”

He winked. “Hey, sugar. I was starting to think you weren’t coming home.”

Where else would I go? It’s my apartment. “So, what’s the surprise? Are we going out, or should I grab dinner from the replicator?”

Rising onto his knees, he reached out to her. “Come here. We’ll eat later.”

Her hands shook. She took in his sculpted figure, his jutting cock. How had she landed the most perfect guy in the city? Bridging the gap between them, she joined him on the bed, anxious to be in his arms again, writhing under his taut body. No previous lover had brought her the pleasure he did. Every night.

Arms around his neck, she pulled him tight against her. Brushing feather kisses along his neck, she hummed with anxiousness. “I’m ready to take our relationship to the next level.” She’d already waited so long.

“All in good time, Brook. Right now, I want you naked.” Jason fingered the bottom of her shirt before lifting it off. He snapped open her bra and shuffled her pants down.

She trembled. No teasing or torture tonight. He would take her hard and fast, every second of sex with him, enjoyable. How could it not be with a lover so experienced?

His kisses consumed, devoured all of the stress she carried home. He always made her forget, leave work behind. Tonight was no different.

Plunging his fingers deep inside her pussy, he palmed her breast with his other hand. So rough. But she could handle him. He never hurt her.

Her juices flowed over his digits, making the invasion bearable. She threw her head back and groaned. “God, you’re amazing.”

Jason withdrew his hand, laying her back on the bed. “I know.”

She shivered at his confidence. A born leader. Once they married, he would take his role in Planet Core management, boosting Father’s seniority with the arrangement. She pulled in a deep breath. He’s everything I’ve always hoped for.

Stripping off the last of her clothing, he crawled over top of her. Always in control. He knew what he liked and always found a way to make her scream in ecstasy. Why would she complain?

Jason positioned the tip of his cock between her delicate folds then plunged deep inside.

Holy hell! Brook gripped his muscled arms, losing focus of everything else. Never had she felt so full. He must be reading that Kama Sutra again. Every time he introduced a new position or move, he claimed to have read the book. More pleasure for her.

Jason pounded in and out, bringing her feet up over his shoulders. Close to release, she met his thrusts, slamming against him.

But he pulled out before she had the chance to orgasm. What the hell?

He lowered her legs to the bed and lay beside her, running the tips of his fingers along her mons. “It’s time. Are you ready?”

A rock fell in the pit of her stomach. Was he really going to propose to her in their bed? Not what she expected, but she’d say yes no matter where he proposed to her. Brook gulped. “Okay.”

Jason glanced toward the en suite bathroom. “Okay, Melina, you can come out now.”

What? Disbelief warred with hurt. Her cheeks burned with anger. Even the stare of the woman approaching the bed did nothing to douse the rage inside. Brook grabbed the blankets, pulling them up high. She recognized the other woman from Planet Core. Why was she involved in their private affairs?

“What’s the meaning of this, Jason? Why would you invite another woman into my bedroom?”

He smiled, eyes twinkling. “The next step in our relationship. A ménage. You said you were willing to try new things.”

She fisted the sheets. Tears stung her eyes. “By new things, I meant using toys, maybe even bondage. I never wanted another woman. Besides, a ménage is illegal. You know that. I thought you were going to propose. That we would get married.” Her chin trembled. “You promised me you’d changed.”

He raised his hands. “Hey, there are some things I just can’t give up. When I invited Melina to join us, she eagerly accepted, especially after I mentioned your name. I just wanted to have some fun, baby.”

Fun? Not with another woman. How could she even think of intruding in an already established relationship? With her large breasts, pretty face, and long legs, she could easily get any guy she wanted.

Brook’s stomach tightened. Does she want Jason?

Tears slipped down her cheeks. How could she compete?

Fury flared. She glared at Jason. “Get out!” Turning to Melina, she pointed to the door. “You, too. Get the hell out of my room and my house!”

“You can’t mean that.” Jason grasped her arm.

She backed away, his touch like fire. “Yes, I do. Obviously, the rules don’t mean anything to you. Nor do I. I can’t believe I trusted you when everyone told me not to.”

Sliding off the bed, he gathered his clothes then stood by the door. “Fine, but it’s only a matter of time before you’re begging me to come back. I’m the best fuck you’ve ever had, remember?” He flicked his head. “C’mon, Melina. We can go back to your place and continue what we started.”

The other woman paled. She shook her head. “I’m sorry, Brook. This isn’t what I hoped for.”

Like she cared what Melina wanted. “Out!” She couldn’t handle them near her anymore, couldn’t handle the pain. Chest heaving, she closed her eyes, hoping this was all a bad dream. A nightmare, nothing more.

When she opened them, she found the room empty. But the ache of betrayal still consumed her. It had all been real. The man she’d trusted had brought another woman inside, expecting her to share him, and have sex with someone else. A woman. An illegal relationship. She grabbed a pillow—the one Jason had slept on—and pitched it across the room. Screaming, she swept everything off the nightstand. The digital picture frame crashed on the floor. The screen shattered. Don’t need those photographs anymore, anyway.

A soft rap on the door.

She glanced up, expected Jason to have returned to apologize. Though she’d never forgive him, never forget his betrayal.

Instead of finding an apologetic Jason, she stared into Melina’s amber-colored eyes. “I told you to leave.”

The woman, now dressed, pushed the door farther open and inched closer. “I will, in a minute. I just wanted you to understand why I am here.”

Understand? “You came to fuck my boyfriend, and by the condition of my bed when I arrived, I’d say mission accomplished.” She squirmed at the realization. Oh God, I just had sex with him. Unprotected. Had he used a condom with Melina?

“No!” She drew closer. “I wanted to be with you. I wouldn’t let him touch me, no matter how hard he tried. After he tried to pin me on the bed, I ran to the bathroom and locked myself inside until you arrived.”

Brook gasped. She wants to be with me? “But why? Why would you agree to a ménage?”

Melina stared at the floor. “I thought it was the only way you would notice me.”

Although empathy tried to bubble to the surface, Brook squelched it back down. With her love life shattered, she couldn’t deal with the confusion Melina’s confession brought. She shook her head. “Same sex relationships are banned. You need to leave.”

“Fine.” Melina pressed her communicator to the house comm system. “But if you need a friend, someone to talk to, give me a call.”

She slid out of the room, leaving Brook alone. Completely alone. Again. Ever since her mother was murdered by members of the Underground, she’d been left on her own, her father too obsessed with the company he worked for to care about his only child.

She pulled the covers over her head, but the scent of Jason’s spicy cologne made her heave. I need to change the sheets. Burn the entire bed.

If only she’d been shopping with her mother the day of the explosion. Then she wouldn’t have to deal with all this pain. She wouldn’t have had to survive without a mother—a parent—during the toughest years of her life. Her father provided what she needed, but lived elsewhere. She never saw him, except at work. All she wanted was someone she could count on, trust, and confide in. She’d thought she had that with Jason. Until tonight. Now, she had no one.

***

Melina slumped onto the padded hover chair. Another monstrously long day spent working at Planet Core. And she hadn’t had a chance to talk to Brook. Not once in the past three weeks. The blonde beauty had holed up in the lab, never making a public appearance. At least no place she’d thought to try.

And every weekend since the fiasco, she’d seen Jason at the bars, picking up other women. At work, he followed her around, reiterating his offer to “fuck her blind.” No wonder Brook hid. If Melina had the opportunity, she’d do the same.

She shoved the plate of replicated fries and a burger across the table. So much for comfort food. She had to find a way to see Brook again, coax her back out into the world. God, when the woman strutted down the corridors wrapped in her uniform, it was all Melina could do to keep her hands and eyes off the ass that caught everyone’s attention. Not too hard, or too bony. Brook had the kind of figure that inspired nude paintings by masters of the past, and her own late-night masturbation fests.

Slamming a fist on the table, Melina groaned. She had to get out, clear her mind with a run. Otherwise, she would be back in her bedroom, fantasizing—again—about the woman she would never have. Brook would never go against the rules, never take a chance at a relationship with a woman. She wasn’t the type to disobey her father.

Melina pushed away from the table and rushed to the door. Slipping on a pair of running shoes, she laced them up. She transformed the PC-issued communicator into an earpiece, and tucked it in place. Selecting a playlist of songs with a heavy beat—her favorite lately—she pressed the door open.

“Good evening, Miss Holloway,” the robotic female voice rang out. “Enjoy your run.”

She sighed. Planet Core had their eyes on her the minute she stepped outside. She wouldn’t be surprised if they somehow monitored her private quarters, too. They owned everything.

I should have lived in the past. During the times when—according to her parents—large populations actually lived outside of the city and ate food other than what came from a replicator.

All before Planet Core took over. Now, everyone depended on the corporation for food, clothing, and shelter, at the cost of their unwavering loyalty. If she ever had the chance to see what was beyond PC’s reach, she’d take it and run.

She sidled out into the street, still feeling the confines of the corporation. God, she wanted to escape, travel far away, like her parents had tried to before they’d been shot dead in front of her. Sure, others lived beyond the borders, but once you signed the contract with PC, you were imprisoned in their territory. Forever. Yet, she’d had no choice, orphaned by their rules, swallowed into the corporate entity.

Melina pounded the asphalt, past block after block of steel and glass structures. The thumping of her heart matched the rhythm of the music blasting in her ears. No matter how far or fast she fled, she would never get away. Not alive. Cameras followed her everywhere.

She focused on the heavy thrum, yearning to forget—even for a moment—she belonged to the corporation. Memories from long ago flashed through her mind. Flipping through her parents’ secret stash of pictures of open roads and miles of colorful fields—what the land was supposed to be like beyond Planet Core’s grasp—while they shared their dreams of leaving for Lexford, a land of freedom, one day. But the photos and dreams were gone forever, like Mom and Dad. Her chest ached. Why did they have to try to escape? Why did they leave me alone?

Silence blocked out the music in her ear. Then came a shrill ring. She slowed. The earpiece rang again, and she cringed at the unmistakable call of management. Had she been too distracted and run too far? She glanced around. No, she was well within PC borders.

Tapping the receive button, she braced for the call. Nothing good could come from the higher-ups buzzing an employee.

“Hello, Melina? Are you busy?” A string of choked sobs followed.

Melina shuffled back a step. “Brook, is that you? Are you okay?”

“No.”

Silence.

Shit, what’s wrong? Her heart hammered. “Where are you? I’ll be right there if you tell me.”

“Home, but….” Brook sniffled. “Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. Sorry to bother you.”

The earpiece clicked. She tapped it, hoping Brook hadn’t hung up. “No, if you need me….”

But it was no use. The droning buzz of a terminated call echoed in her ear.

She spun on her heel. The woman she adored needed her, whether she believed it yet, or not. The fact Brook had called at all was proof she needed a friend at the moment. And if she found out that asshole of an ex-boyfriend had pulled another stunt, she’d skin him.

With no hesitation, she raced toward the first apartment of the city, where Brook occupied the penthouse suite, courtesy of Daddy Dearest.

Why she had to crush on the daughter of one of the heads of the corporation she detested, she would never know. But Brook, other than nicer accommodations, was never given any special privileges over anyone else. She put in time as a biologist.

Melina whipped around a corner then halted in front of the building, staring straight up. Would Brook let her in, or was this a complete waste of time? Another day to be rejected by the woman she longed for and reminded of the regulations concerning sexual relationships. Stepping inside, she slid her card through the magnetic reader.

“Who are you here to see?” a deep robotic voice asked.

“Miss Brook Malock, please.” Crap. Why had she come? It wasn’t like Brook actually wanted her there—she had changed her mind and ended the call. Now Melina looked desperate.

She rocked from foot to foot. I should go.

Reaching for the handle, she glanced back. Maybe one day….

The inner door slid open.

A rush of adrenaline surged through her veins. She’s letting me in!

“How are you feeling?” She ran a hand down his chest, all the way to his still pulsating balls. “You were in rough shape.”

She fondled him, and he gulped, trying to form a coherent thought. “I…. Fine, I think. Thank you for saving me.”

Crawling between his legs, she shook her head. “Mare saved you. I only treated your wounds.”

He glanced at the other man, ready to thank him, but Tara grabbed hold of his rod, and, licking the tip, left his mind blank.

“Oh, yeah.” His eyes rolled back in his head, as she swallowed him.

She hummed, and he thrust his hips toward her. His dick pulsed, as her soft lips traveled its length. Swirling her tongue around and sucking him down her throat, she sent waves of liquid fire to his groin. He reveled in every new, electrifying sensation.

Something brushed his leg. He caught a glimpse of the other man kneeling beside Tara, stroking his massive rod. Mare inched closer, until his cock rubbed against Cael’s. “Suck us both.”

Cael groaned. Seeing his dick next to the other man’s, sliding in and out of Tara’s orifice, left him shaking with excitement. But if Mare wanted his pole sucked, he was willing to do it, too.

“I want you up here,” he said.

Tara glanced up. “Me?”

“No. I want to suck Mare’s cock.”

The man’s eyes grew wide. Was he disgusted by the idea?

“This is an interesting turn of events.” He pulled away from Tara and moved to straddle Cael’s chest. “You want it; you got it.”

Cael lifted his head to take in the light blue shaft. Opening his jaw, he sucked it in.

Mare threw his head back, and a growl rumbled from deep within.

Was he doing it right? He tried to emulate Tara’s motions on his own cock, but with each swirl of her tongue, she stole more and more of his concentration. When Mare swayed above him, moaning, he figured he must be doing something the man liked. He became so engrossed in bringing the other blue guy pleasure he didn’t realize Tara had stopped sucking on him until she removed the other man’s dick from his mouth and kissed him. Her lips were soft, but the force with which they swept over his demanded attention. He couldn’t think, couldn’t stop the passion consuming him. Her kisses seemed removed from sex, more possessive, as though she claimed him.

Did you enjoy that?

Starry Nights – Enter to WIN in the SFR Brigade’s Midsummer Blog Hop #giveaway #romance

SFR Brigade Midsummer Hop 2014

A HUGE thank you to Pippa Jay for organizing this hop!

Making love under the stars is very romantic. Well, when you subtract the bugs from the occasion. (Trust me) But, when on another planet, would it still be the same?

Here’s an excerpt from Never Gonna Let You Go, my Amazon UK bestselling story. Right before this excerpt, Calla had just had her first sexual experience with a woman, under the stars.

Enjoy An Excerpt

A rustling in the grass woke Calla. She assumed Melina was still packing the equipment and rolled over smiling. “I needed that more than you can ever imagine.”

She gasped at the snarl she received in response, a very inhuman snarl replaced all feelings of fulfillment with fear. Opening her eyes, she found herself face to face with a large feline-like creature. There was nothing friendly in its green, glowing eyes or the curl of its lips, showing very sharp, yellowed teeth. Its putrid breath wafted across her face.

A growl came from behind her, only this time it was human. “Don’t move.” A man.

She held her breath, fear preventing her from doing anything else. A line of sticky drool splashed onto her cheek.

A shrill cry filled the air. “Calla….”

She missed the rest of the words. The feline-like creature lunged for her. Its claws dug into her bare skin. She writhed under the sharp pain. When its teeth pierced her side, she screamed before succumbing to darkness.

Enjoy An Excerpt“When is Aidy getting here?” Jessica grabbed the large bowl of scrambled eggs and brought it closer to her plate.

“I think his flight is due in at three.” My mother placed a dish of bacon on the table and took a seat beside me. “He will be in time for the wedding rehearsal; don’t worry.”

My stomach clenched. “Wedding rehearsal?” I coughed, trying to clear the chunk of toast lodged in my throat. “What wedding rehearsal?”

“Today at four. We’re running through the service.” Jess scooped egg onto her plate. “I told you.”

Nervous laughter bubbled in my throat and try as I may, I couldn’t stop shaking my head. “No.” I patted my chest. “No, you never mentioned a rehearsal.”

“Oh.” She placed the bowl back in the middle of the table. “I could have sworn I did.”

“Nope, you didn’t. Believe me, I would have remembered otherwise.” I grabbed my mug and knocked the coffee back before finishing my piece of toast.

“Well, it’s no big deal.” Edward took the bowl of eggs and helped himself. “Just a quick run-through.”

“Will everyone be there?” Forcing a smile on my face, I looked up at them both, hoping like hell my question would pass as innocent and genuine curiosity.

“Anyone who is involved in the wedding itself will be.”

Great. So that meant Jessica, Edward, the parents, and the bridesmaids, plus me. That left Adrian and…. “Will Vicar Taylor, be there?”

Oh God, did my voice just go higher?

“Yes, Margaret, William will be there. He is the one who is marrying Jessie and Edward, so he needs to be there.” My father skewered some bacon and tomatoes onto his fork.

Grimacing, I reached out and grabbed another piece of toast. “Just a question, Pa.” A stupid one, but a question nevertheless….

“It is normal for people to have wedding rehearsals, Margaret. Just because you—”

Jess picked up the coffeepot. “Does anyone want more coffee?”

I straightened, my focus fixed on Pa. “I’m aware of that.”

“Maggie?”

My father’s shoulders went rigid. He lifted his head and our gazes locked. I didn’t miss the way the muscle in the side of his neck ticked. Arguing with my father in front of Jessica and Edward was not an option, so I looked away.

“Please.” I held out my mug and Jess poured the dark liquid.

I could kick myself. A wedding rehearsal hadn’t even crossed my mind. Having to stand at the altar before William on the actual wedding day would be hard enough, but having to do it twice…my stomach churned.

“So, will Adrian come straight to the church?” Edward cut the awkward silence.

“Yes. He will get a taxi to the church, and then we will bring him and his luggage back here.” My mother held her mug out to Jess.

“Adrian is staying here? Tonight?” I added sugar to my coffee. “Won’t it be crowded? I thought—”

“No more crowded than it was in your childhood.” My father took a bite out of his toast.

More and more good news. Of course he would be staying here; it was his family home after all. I guess, it was stupid of me to hope that he would go to a B&B, but my parents wouldn’t have allowed it even if he did suggest it. I hadn’t seen him in six years, hadn’t spoken to him. And yet, in a couple of hours I would be locked in the same house as him.
