Meet 2014 Golden Heart Finalist Laura Trentham!

Today we’re welcoming a DOUBLE Golden Heart Finalist, Laura Trentham, who has two books in the Historical Romance category: WICKED THINGS and A WILD AND WICKED WIND.

And if that’s not impressive enough, she’s completed two more Regency manuscripts, a contemporary novel, plus two historical novellas.

She may also be the only Regency author out there who was once a hard-hat and steel-toed-boot-wearing Chemical Engineer. She even ran (and I quote) “a testing rig for processing pump-grade gasoline...

The Ruby Slipper Burlesque Revue at RT

This year, the Rubies decided it was time to host our first Ruby Slipper event at the Romantic Times convention and after some brainstorming, we came up with the perfect idea for New Orleans: The Ruby Slipper Burlesque Revue!

In addition to being able to put on an event for readers, it also allowed a group of Rubies, who are busy little bees atconference, to get together for a photo.

The True Cost of Self-Publishing

The True Cost of Self-Publishing

When it comes to self-publishing a novel, I don’t claim to know it all. But I have learned a thing or two from my other indie-pubbed Ruby Sisters and then there’s all of that stumbling around I did when I published my first book, Place Your Betts.

Everyone thinks there’s some secret to self-publishing and that’s it’s horribly expensive, but the truth is, there’s no secret and the initial outlay of money is reasonable. In truth, I’ve made the money I invested in...

RT Virgin No More

RT Virgin No More

Last week I attended the Romantic Time Convention in New Orleans. Since I’d never been, I had no idea what to expect…I could not have imagined RT if I’d tried. Because it’s fan based instead of author based, it was a party all the time. From beer pong to candy and spoons to author spotlights and publisher spotlights, it was amazing and scary and BUSY and wonderful!

I met tons of my fans, made new ones, ran into Charlaine Harris and tried to not go all fan-girl, and hobnobbed w...

Early, On Time, or Late?

After a recent comment my husband made, I’ve been giving this a lot of thought. His comment, “You’re getting better about not running late.” It had almost become a joke at our house that he’d build in extra time to allow me to be ready “on time”. Only, that didn’t always work because I knew he’d added to the “leave” time. What confused matters more, my alarm clock is set for thirty minutes ahead. So, not only was I subtracting my husband’s extra time, but I was also having to subtract thirty...

Up To His Butt in Alligators

It will not surprise you to discover this historical romance writer LOVES period movies and television series. And while I do have the first four seasons of Downton Abbey on DVD, it isn’t my favorite. BBC America’s Ripper Street is my #1 guilty historical pleasure.

Set in Victorian England, just after Jack the Ripper murders his last known victim and slinks back into whatever evil cesspool spawned him, Ripper Street is centered around three men who work in H Division in the White Chapel distri...

Meet 2014 Golden Heart Finalist Shelly Chalmers!

Today we’re welcoming Shelly Chalmers, 2014 Golden Heart Finalist in Paranormal Romance!

Her book, HIDDEN MAGIC, is her seventh complete novel. It’s actually paranormal historical, and part of a series—what she likes to call “CSI: Regency.” In real life, she lives in rural Alberta, Canada, takes care of her three-year-old, and (in her words) pretends she’s taking care of the house and garden (she’s usually writing). She loves learning about unusual nuggets of history, like the Bow Street Runne...
