miss major and sylvia rivera were also sex workers and all of them used money from their sex work to keep lgbt kids from homelessness
Brenda Howard, the mother of Pride, was also a sex worker. Sex workers (particularly trans and bi sex workers) were instrumental to forming the modern queer and LGBTQ+ liberation front. If your praxis and activism doesn’t include and uplift sex workers, then it’s nothing more than a sham.

Incredibly Strange and Ridiculously Cheap: Albert Pyun's 30-Year Career in B-Movies
So sad to hear that Albert Pyun passed away. He was a wonderfully gonzo filmmaker, who made a post-apocalyptic musical (!) along with films like Alien from L.A.. He had a wonderful self-deprecating sense of humor, but also a serious dedication to getting films made no matter what it took. I was lucky enough to interview him in depth, ten years ago.

There have always been people who were not allowed to speak freely, and things that it was unacceptable to say. In the past, most of these constraints were for the benefit of a highly privileged minority of people, who didn’t want to hear opinions or jokes about religion, racism, politics or queer topics that challenged their privilege. It’s only quite recently that the balance has shifted and people with immense privilege have had to watch what they say, a little bit. And meanwhile, marginalized people are slightly — slightly! — freer to speak the truth about the things that affect their lives.
The burden of self-censorship has not increased, but has simply been redistributed.
