My new book about bipolar disorder is out!
Thanks so much for your interest in my new book, One Dude’s Guide to Being Bipolar: How to Stay the Hell Out of Grippy Socks Jail, Achieve Anyways, and Abide Always. I’m excited to let you know that it’s now available in paperback and as an ebook on Amazon! Visit my website for more info and the most up-to-date ways you can read and listen to the book.
Why a book? And why now?
I’ve been working on this book now for a year and a half, and my inspiration in writing it was having to deal with my own bipolar diagnosis and learn (often the hard way) the best ways to cope with the disorder. I hope to help others learn from my successes (and mistakes) in this candid, up-close and personal look at how bipolar has impacted my life. I also want to provide hope to other people who are living with bipolar disorder as well, whether they have it themselves or are friends, family members, or loved ones of people with the disorder.
About the book
In the book, I provide readers with real-life cautionary tales, practical advice, and hope that they can do more than just “get by” with bipolar disorder – they can actually thrive in it by capitalizing on the creativity, energy, and unique ways of thinking they possess by virtue of their condition. I also provide bipolar sufferers with several tools they can use to help manage their illness more effectively.
In this book, you will learn how you can:
- Navigate manic and depressive episodes while avoiding hospitalization,
- Develop a drug regimen to help manage bipolar symptoms effectively,
- Put in place the professional and relational supports you need,
- Implement effective strategies for keeping up with work during bipolar mood swings,
- Manage friendships and romantic relationships successfully,
- Go out and achieve anyway in spite of your diagnosis, and so much more.
Anyone struggling with bipolar disorder (or knows someone who does) will benefit greatly from reading the book. Still, fans of the hit Coen Brothers film, The Big Lebowski, will appreciate even more how I draw upon my Dudeist faith (and a healthy dose of Lebowski movie references) to help me abide, even when someone pisses on the rug, man.
My bipolar toolkit
In addition to the book, I also have created a bipolar toolkit designed to help bipolar sufferers manage their illness more effectively. This includes a mood scale, a mania contract, a suicide safety plan, and a mood tracker. You can download them all on my website at www.gemcitydudeistpriest.com/bipolard....
What’s next?
While my book is currently already available as a paperback ($9.99) and as an ebook ($2.99 or free with Kindle Unlimited), I will also be releasing it soon as an audiobook. Eventually, I will be releasing a video version as well of me reading the entire book on YouTube for free! It will also be available in bookstores soon.
8 ways you can help
I would love your help as I seek to get this book to a wider audience, so here are some ways you can do just that:
- Subscribe to my Substack! I promise I won’t spam you.
- Tell people about the book… word of mouth is still the best way to get the word out.
- Buy the book and leave a verified review. This helps tremendously with the algorithm.
- Engage with my social media posts about the book on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and/or Facebook.
- Forward this newsletter to a friend you think might be interested in getting the book.
- Find me on Goodreads and leave a review of my book here.
- Invite me on your podcast to talk about bipolar and the book, if you have one!
- Invite me to speak at your next event if it has a mental health theme!
Get my book for free…
I know money can be tight, so I’m excited to be able to offer my book for free on 4/20/24! It will be available for 24 hours starting at midnight on April 20 on Amazon. This offer applies only to the ebook, but it still counts as a purchase. If you’d like to help out it would be great if you could download it and leave an honest review after reading!
Thank you again for your support, and I’ll let you know when the audiobook has been released!
