New novel submitted

I uploaded Final Response to Bookkus Publishing today and hope its synopsis is exciting enough to get downloaded and reviewed by their readers.  My writers group really likes it and so do I, as I think it’s one of my best works.  Unfortunately, after this one I can’t think of another firefighter based novel to write.  It may be my last.  I have a juvenile novel underway which I’m really beginning to like:  VooDoo Boy.

I’m also a volunteer reader/reviewer for Bookkus hoping for some eBooks to fill my Kindle.

More success

Just got a check from Edmonton Senior’s magazine (50+) for a travel article.  It was strange, as I never received acknowledgement of the submission and two months later a friend in my writers group told it appeared in the magazine.  I called up the editor and he said he thought he contacted me about it.  Anyhow, I got paid.

Also was notified about being short-listed in a competition by Polar Expressions Publishing in an upcoming anthology.  I’m guaranteed to be in print but only 1st to 3rd get money.  A few years ago I garnered an ‘honorable mention’ for  my short story    I’m hoping I can get in the bucks with this year’s submission.   came The ll short lister n was publisheme an article in the magazine

Summertime writing

It’s difficult to write a lot when the weather is so good; however I have managed to write chapter 6 of VooDoo Boy and I am really liking it.  Using phoney voodoo to bully a bully is going to work out well.  I’m managing to write two or three page, small scenes, when I can.  I think Bookus Publishing will get this one, too.  The ETA is late fall and then I have to run it through my writers group.  I’ve posted the 1st chapter on this site @ In The Works.  As for The Blob…In My Shoes, chapter 8 of 14 is at my writers group being torn apart.

Since the area here has had some intense thunderstorms with real downpours, the river is still high and muddy. Combine that with the mountain snow  melt and swimming in the river is very cool.  I’m hoping to get in the boat there during August.  I am getting some reading done: Three Stations, Hunger Games, Iron River, and now The Reversal.  My youngest son, William, is getting married in August to his Korean sweetheart Yeong Sil.  She and her family arrive today so Gloria and I will be busy entertaining.

Bookkus Publishing tryout

I’ve decided to place my 3rd firefighter eBook with Bookkus for two good reasons: I hate marketing and they don’t require any initial outlay.  They will take 50% of my take from eBook retailers.  When it comes to internet marketing I am not a savvy guy.  They claim they will go hard at internet marketing.  This will begin in Sept. with a press release.  If it dows better than my weal attempts I will switch all my eBooks to them.

Three New Travel Shorts

http://www.yatscoffbooks.com/short-stories/

Stupid Bloody Tourist occurred many moons ago in Ubud, Bali, when I had my first experience in the Third World along the old hippie trail Sydney to London overland.  Super Optometrist is from last year when my wife and I spent most of the winter in S.E. Asia.  Indonesian Freighter was published by Summit Studio as part of a travel short story anthology I Sold My Gold Tooth For Gas Money and made me a few bucks.  I did not pick the lame title.  The event occurred along the hippie trail and tells how and where  I met my wife.

Another good reason to read eBooks – Shades Of Grey

Being discreet.  Now that Shades of Grey is so popular, do you really expect to find the hardcover laying around the house with the kiddies around?  You can attract attention by reading it in public.  With an eReader you can click off your erotica genre with a flick.  Password protection is a must for discretion.

Grade 4 eBook reading

Yes, it is possible to do a reading of an eBook.  Read ch.1 of ‘Archie’s Gold‘ to Dinah Liko’s gr. 4 class @ Chester school in Toronto last Thursday.  Half the class said there was an eReader in their homes. They enjoyed it so much I had to sit and give autographs afterwards in their daily journals.  They were interested in where I got my ideas from and if the characters were real. With all the fantasy/zombies/vampires/talking creatures, etc., I think the story held its own.  What was really cool was the teacher drew up a character map which is charting all the characters and their relationships to each other; little arrows going back and forth from each other.  Dinah will read the entire story to them and slowly add more as they get to the end.

Old Flames @ Authonomy site

http://www.authonomy.com/books/43968/old-flames-/

Decided to get some input on Old Flames from a site run by Random House Publishing.  I submitted 4 chapters and figure I can get a small review out  of it and hang it on my wall.
