Johann Andreas IV is a rich loser who has a raw deal in life. He is handsome, yet with a poor self-image, clever, but still uneducated, and despite being the heir apparent in his grandfather’s will, he’s about to be thrown out with nothing.
In the underground colony of his birth, two things matter the most to its denizens: a name, which will guarantee his wealth and status, and a designated branding tattoo, the only thing allowing Colony-Dwellers to l...
Today in the Comfy Chair – Indra Vaughan
My guest today is Indra Vaughan who has just published her debut gay romance novel, The House on Hancock Hill. It is set in Michigan, where Indra lives, and since it concerns the romantic adventures of a pastry chef, she tells me she wrote it in a state of constant hunger.
Thank you for visiting, Indra, and for answering my questions.

Elin: Can you tell me a little about yourself? For instance, do you have to have a day job as well as being a writer?
Indra: Well, I’m from Belgium. I lived th...

Today in the Comfy Chair – Kit Moss
Today my guest is Kit Moss, well known writer of historical novels and reviewer of everything LGBTQ.
Thanks, Kit, for agreeing to answer my questions. First of all, can you tell me a little about yourself? For instance, do you have to have a day job as well as being a writer?
CHM – I wrote my first short story when I was seven and the rest, to coin a phrase, is historical fiction. I actually spent my teen years writing what eventually became my first novel, AN INVOLUNTARY KING. I had to have t...

Chef Rupert’s picking up the pieces after a catastrophe; he’s lost his love, his business, his home and even his dog, and he’s trying to make a fresh start. Linking up with Jake almost on a whim he soon finds himself involved in a strange tale of organic farming, migrant workers, greed and even possibly murder – in the midst of which the attraction is still there, but Rupert’s not sure whether the feeling’s mutual or if he’s ready to try for a p...

Guest Post – Charlie Cochrane
My guest today is Charlie Cochrane, no stranger at all to those of us who love LGBT historicals, and especially the cosy mystery type stories featuring her academic sleuths, Jonty and Orlando.
Hello Charlie, awfully glad you could make it! Speaking of which – would you like to tell us a bit about your latest release?
~~~
“Awfully Glad” was inspired by the preface to Max Arthur’s brilliant book “When this Bloody War is Over”. I knew about the concert parties of WWII (who else remembers “It Ain’t...
Saturday Recs
As usual I’ve lost the plot a bit this week as far as signing up for stuff but here’s a Saturday Rec post anyway.
I’m a big fan of historical action stories, and of action stories in general. Until I found the growing M/M genre knocking on for 10 years ago now, I had never read romances – preferring Fred Forsythe or Patrick O’Brien to Loretta Chase or E L James – and I still have problems getting my head around the tropes. Some of the best stories I’ve read play all kinds of games with these...
Research Part Two: Too Deep
So, last time we talked about not doing enough research. Most writers know they need to do their research, though; workshops teach it and everyone preaches it, and it's easy to be humiliated by someone more knowledgeable if you don't do it. So that seems to me to be a less prevalent problem in published work than the other side of the coin: too much research.
A very valid comment from Sam Starbuck about research and how to take it too far. I...
Today in the Comfy Chair – Mina Carter
My guest today is Mina Carter, renowned for her beautifully produced book covers [I still get a bit of a lump in my throat when I look at the one she made for On A Lee Shore] and for her many romance series. She is here today to publicise the latest instalment of her Lyric Hounds series, Sex, Wolves and Rock and Roll, which has a strong M/M pairing at the heart of it.
Welcome, Mina, and thank you for answering my questions.
