My guest today didn’t just contribute stories to the anthology but also edited it, so we owe her a great vote of thanks. Please join me in welcoming Julie Bozza.

Hi Julie, thank you for answering my questions.

What inspired you to write your stories for the anthology?

I was very interested in exploring the differences in how the war affected GLBTQI people. Of course many of their experiences would have been the same as anyone else’s, such as food shortages, and so on....

A Pride of Poppies interview series – Sam Evans

Art by Robert Vonnoh

My guest today is Sam Evans.

Welcome, Sam and thanks for answering my questions.

What inspired you to write your story for the anthology?

It was a combination of two things. Firstly I attended a booking signing in September in London and ended up talking to Julie Bozza about how I was struggling with my writing. From this conversation came a little challenge of sorts to submit a story for the Pride of Poppies anthology. Secondly I had always wanted to write a story around...

Today’s guest is Lou Faulkner. Welcome, Lou and thanks for answering my questions.

What inspired you to write your story for the anthology?

A memory of a joy-ride in a Tiger Moth, and seeing the earth fall away under me while becoming immeasurably bigger. A book on the work of reconnaissance airmen in the Battle of the Somme. A line in that book saying that pilots and observ...

What inspired you to write your story for the anthology?

When I saw the call for submissions, it caught my interest. What was it like for LGBTQIA people in the First World War?

Two particular stories leapt out at me – the story of people like my own great-great-grandfather, who spent time in a British internment camp for having a German father, and the possib...

A Pride of Poppies interview series – Charlie Cochrane

Welcome to the third interview in a series celebrating the publication of the Great War anthology A Pride of Poppies from Manifld Press.

Today my guest is Charlie Cochrane.

What inspired you to write your story for the anthology?

A visit to the Army Chaplaincy museum, just outside Amport. I have no idea why I hadn’t come across the place before, because it’s relatively local, but as soon as I found out about it I made an appointment to visit. I had a lovely hour there, having a private to...
