disastrid:

I’ve decided I’m going to celebrate poetry month by posting poets that I love, preferably performing/reading their own work.  So here’s the first: Megan Falley’s “For Those Right Now Still Looking for Closure.”

I just finished her book “After the Witchhunt” and it is moving and gut-wrenching and awesome.  It’s published through Write Bloody Press and I highly recommend it!

thank you! i hope you have the most inspiring poetry month possible.

TODAY

I wrote a poem about The Long Island Medium, and found out that I was a finalist for the Write Bloody open book contest. I’d say it was a good day.

That’s my teammate. I like that anyone calls this monster a rookie. That’s hilarious. Happy National Poetry Month!

““What the Night Demands is a brutally honest mirror for us to look into and reconsider our relationship to the body. I wanted to shout with joy, I felt so human when I was done with this book. A grand debut from a fresh, needed voice.””

- Danez Smith says something beautiful about my book!

What's Up, Doc?

I wrote 7 poems about being queer this month! I’m sad to be saying goodbye to Queer Week for this April’s 30 poem in 30 days challenge. My next focus? Writing about not-myself. Like some issue-based, this-isn’t-about-me, none-for-Gretchen-Weiner’s type shit. And I am lost lost in this forest. Anyone know a recent news story or public atrocity I should tackle? I’m listening. I need a week’s worth. GO!

NiProWriMo 5/30 or What Could They Possibly Have to Say to Each Other?

nicolehomer:

Let’s get right down to business.

Pick an iconic figure with a famous weak spot. Maybe Superman and his arch nemesis, that pesky kryptonite. Or Achilles and his tender heal. The Wicked Witch of the West and water. The Deathstar and that tiny, yet shootable spot.

I’m feeling persona-y today. Write a letter from the icon to the weakness or from the weakness to the icon. Is it hate mail? A love poem? A blackmail note? Advice?

Asterisk and Sidebar*: NiProWriMo 2/30 or One Little Pig:

nicolehomer:

Look around. What do you see? Pick a common, unassuming object.

In a poem, create a character who builds a domicile (I’m being vague because it could be a shack, a fort, a tree house, a mansion, anything where s/he will live) while onlookers gather around. Are you one of the onlookers? Do the…
