Vive l’Obamacare!

When I was coming up, the elders used to say, “Let a body talk long enough, and it’ll tell on itself.” So when people say that they love the Affordable Care Act (ACA) but hate Obamacare, they are certainly telling on themselves.

For the past eight years,  Republicans have run their campaign on Obamacare’s  decimation, as if by nullifying Obama’s landmark legislation, they could also nullify his presidency. It’s clear, however, that Trump and his followers hate Obamacare, not because of what i...

Woke

In the 1991 comedy, What about Bob?, a psych patient, played by Bill Murray, follows his psychiatrist, Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss), on vacation. In one scene, Dr. Marvin enters the bedroom where Bob is sleeping and attempts to wake him. Everyone in the house is jarred from sleep by Dr. Marvin’s yelling, everyone, that is, except Bob who continues to sleep blissfully. No amount of aggression wakes Bob from his peaceful slumber. Finally, Dr. Marvin gives up in frustration. Then, in perfect co...

Haterade

If someone does not agree with your politics, he is not a hater; he simply disagrees with your politics.

If someone does not agree with your religious views, he is not a hater; he simply disagrees with your religious views.

If someone does not agree with your philosophical world view, he is not a hater; he simply disagrees with your philosophical world view.

My goal is to climb as many trees (and mountains) as possible so that how I see the world is always expanding. I’m evaluating my fundamental values – Fewer things are more important to me than knowing my values because they inf...

The Elephant Always Returns!

The universe gives you a picture of a village and asks, “What do you see?” And even though all you see are grass huts, skimpy trees, and a few birds overhead, you keep staring at the picture because you know there’s something more. After all, that’s how these optical illusions work. You know the ones! If you stare at the frog long enough, it becomes a horse, and the young damsel with a feather in her cap becomes an old crone.

So you stare at this village until it starts to change. The trees b...

Do the Right Thing

Can you imagine how horrible things would have to be for you to grab your babies and attempt to cross the ocean in a rubber dinghy? How bad must life be when that’s your only option?

Some people say we cannot take in refugees because we have our own homeless population to contend with.

Our homeless brothers and sisters have been on the streets for decades, and it seems rather like cheating to now use them as our best excuse for closing our borders to refugees. Some say, “We can’t even feed ou...
