Part Three: The Plan
When I determined that I wanted to make it easy for my book, "Genesis of a Genre: The Birth of Christian Rock" to get into Libraries, my plan started to take shape.
It then became a matter of backward engineering. What does it take to make that happen?
Copyright, ISBN and Barcode for each published version, Library of Congress Control Number, graphics - it all needed to be gathered. Since Ingram doesn't work directly with authors, that meant I had to form an LLC with a Registered Agent.
I suddenly felt legit.
After considering all the options available to publish/distribute the books, it seemed that wide-distribution through Kindle Direct, IngramSpark and Draft 2 Digital would cover all the bases and allow the best royalties.
Convinced that the best use of budget dollars would be to position the book before release, rather than post-release advertising, I sought "public/social validation" for the work.
Submitting for 10 Book Festival awards, securing 5 Editorial Reviews, launching dozens of ARCs on NetGalley and BookSprouts, six months were given to pre-launch promotions.
NEXT-Part Four: The Goodreads Experience.

Part Two:
Publishing your own book is more than just a notion. Particularly if you intend to perform the functions of an actual publisher such as satisfying all the administrative requirements, getting eyeballs on pages and gaining a positive “buzz” for the launch date.
Pre-supposing that we’ve written something of value, distributing a quality product and acting as our own promoter can be near-overwhelming.
Even if you’re one of those unusually creative people who write, edit, format and provide all the necessary graphics at a competitive level, you’re still one of ten thousand a day who want their words to be read.
Musicians want their music to be heard; painters and sculptors want their creations to be seen; authors want their art to be read. It’s not a matter of ego, it’s just the fulfillment of a creative impulse.
Connecting with other minds via the printed page is the hope of every one who dares to write a book. But, how do you get people to look at it in the first place? Moving from the creative, right-side brain activity to logical and calculating left-side minutia may not be instinctive for all.
Hoping to track my “Publishing” journey on this Goodreads Blog, I’m officially throwing my 2-cents worth into the conversation.
Five months until launch day.

Part One
Greetings to all the folks here on Goodreads for whom "a word fitly spoken" is a special thing.
My first post, it will take a while to figure out how things are supposed to work so, "Thank You, " in advance for your patience.
Getting everything ready for the pre-launch of my newest effort, "Genesis of a Genre: The Birth of Christian Rock." Scheduled for a mid-December launch, I look forward to sharing it with Goodread'rs who might find interest in the subject.Joe Markko
