Walking near the end of September

a season is dying in this reluctant sunset. blood like, summers lust being boiled slow into thick, lazy syrup. spiders bloom to grow in corners. every dark alley should be this full of dry leaves.

Egg? Chicken? On writing for money

Recent arguments have actually swayed many writers who now refuse to write for free. I am speaking from watching the comments and conversations with those that are graduates of j-schools, working and respected journalists, freelancers, contributers to professional organizations such as PWAC, TFEW, CAJ and others. This applies not only to journalists, but fiction authors [...]

Back to school

There is a part of me that will always love September. It is almost October for one, the sun is not nuclear and those who have allergies will slowly stop complaining about them. Not to mention the crisp air, ability to choose jeans without dying of heatstroke and of course the crunch of suicidal leaves [...]

Keeping my head on, lest…

… I become the proverbial chicken. Due to business, late nights and early mornings, I have not been posting with any regularity. Over the week that was Fan Expo, specifically the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear, I was dedicated to blogging at ottawahorror.com. In the time since, I have been catching up of missed [...]

The Zen of horror-fanaticism

Unlike so many of my friends, I take my love of horror films and books very lightly. I cringe when anyone refers to me as an expert, as I know dozens of actual experts (like Howard!) as they are the ones I turn to for information. I wither verily when expected to adore or follow [...]

Festival of Fear – Zombieinfo, Ottawa Horror, Post Mortem Press and assorted wonders

So ~ I will be attending the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear in Toronto. I plan to be covering what I can on twitter. Though I don't expect to be going to many panels I will likely be in the Screaming Rooms and will certainly be reporting from the ground floor. As usual, observations and [...]

In front of a computer, as it should be

or not. Not only am I looking forward to heading to Toronto for the Festival of Fear shortly, I am looking forward to returning to my room once the week is over.  So, I have an attachment to my room. If I played World of Warcraft or watched television, it may be more acceptable. [...]

A Violent State world premiere

I have just returned from a world premiere at the Ottawa International Film Festival. Tonight's feature length film may not be horror, but I really have to give a well deserved shout out. And hey, it does certainly have enough blood! Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing A Violent State to life. Parktown, Kambites Media and Fluke [...]

Pining for Through the Weeping Glass

If only, oh, if only I lived closer to the Mutter! They had commissioned a film by the Quay brothers and if it is anything like this, I want it on infinite loop behind my eyelids. Or on DVD. That would be cool too.
