Saeed Jones - Alive at the End of the World
The End of the World was a nightclub.
Drag queens with machetes and rhinestoned
machine guns guarded the red and impassable
door on Friday nights. Just a look at the crowd,
all dressed up and swaying outside, made people
want to yell the truth about themselves to anyone
who’d listen, but no one heard. The End of the World
was loud. The End of the World leaked music
like radiation, and we loved the neon echo, even
though it taunted us or maybe because it taunted us:

Manuel Amado - Lisboa
Unnecessary Drama

I read your letter from before
You’ve been having so much fun
Is it possible you’re just telling me
To draw me in?
There’s an array of douchebags lining up
To play their stupid parts
And did you ever pause
Before you give your love away?
This is my life
This is my so-called life
This is my life
This is my only life
And when you came to me that summer
You were just a shell
You were holding close to mother
She was ashen with th...
Ariel Yelen - What Is This Air Changing, This Warm Aura, These Threads of Air Vibrating Rows of People
This small effort
Because this little singing
This little sound
Small song
This fathomless effort
This voice which comes from the gut
This soft effort at making song
This effort at song
This effort to make song which birds do effortlessly
What birds do effortlessly
This tiny bird
This tender worthy effort
And sometimes it is no effort
No effort to sing
Sometimes I’ve had a drink or two
Sometimes it’s effortless to make song
If enough people sing in a group
If I’m part of that group, I cry
I am holding a thing t...

Faces on a Big Screen
In this video essay, Evan Puschak argues that explode-y superhero movies aren’t the only movies worth seeing on the big screen, asserting that “massive faces emoting on massive screens is just as epic, if not more epic, than explosions and battles”.

Hometown Dream
Helado Negro - Hometown Dream // Video directed and created by Helado Negro.
Who could really know you now?
Now that you’ve seen these dreams
Who would even know what to say
Even if you feel free
Because now my mind’s made up
There’s no looking back now
And now your mind’s made up
So let’s leave together
Our times
Won’t stop
Lifetimes
Slow down
