Current Mood

In this video, the USS Kitty Hawk is plowing through heavy seas with waves so massive, they even go across the flight deck and hit the bridge. At the flight deck a black hawk helicopter and an F-18 Hornet have been left, securely chained down.

D.D Dumbo: NPR Music Field Recordings

Mystery seems to swirl around D.D Dumbo. We'd heard all sorts of crazy rumors about this solo musician; namely, that Dumbo is a modern-day nomad whose only worldly possessions are his guitar and some crazy customized pedals. But once he arrived for one of our SXSW Backyard Sessions, here's what we discovered: Dumbo was born outside of Melbourne, Australia (birth name: Oliver Hugh Perry). He performs with a 12-string electric guitar, a simple drum set-up and some loop pedals. And he prefers t...

Jack Gilbert - The Mistake

There is always the harrowing by mortality,
the strafing by age, he thinks. Always defeats.
Sorrows come like epidemics. But we are alive
in the difficult way adults want to be alive.
It is worth having the heart broken,
a blessing to hurt for eighteen years
because a woman is dead. He thinks of long
before that, the summer he was with Gianna
and her sister in Apulia. Having outwitted
the General, their father, and driven south
to the estate of the Contessa. Like an opera.
The fiefdom stretch...

West Side Stories

A rare TV film from 1972. Patti Smith is in love with New York, its art and artists. Will she one day be a star? Jonathan Miller returns to the city where he once starred in 'Beyond the Fringe'. A freewheeling portrait, through two pairs of eyes, of the city that can make or break you.

Things Have Changed

A worried man with a worried mind
No one in front of me and nothing behind
There’s a woman on my lap and she’s drinking champagne
Got white skin, got assassin’s eyes
I’m looking up into the sapphire-tinted skies
I’m well dressed, waiting on the last train

Standing on the gallows with my head in a noose
Any minute now I’m expecting all hell to break loose

People are crazy and times are strange
I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed

This place ain’t doi...
