STOP

STOP from Green Brothers on Vimeo.

"Full disclosure: after watching it three times, I’d go so far as to call it a short film masterpiece [...] Stop is a quiet tour-de-force, a pent up cry for humanity and fairness in a system that feeds off its own worst instincts."
-Mike Tully, Hammer to Nail (http://bit.ly/1x8dBmV)

"Reinaldo Marcus Green’s gripping nine-minute drama, shot in two nights on location in Red Hook, Brooklyn, centers around a student athlete who is stopped by the police for no o...

Hilda Hilst - Lobos? São muitos.

Lobos? São muitos.

Mas tu podes ainda

A palavra na língua

Aquietá-los.

Mortos? O mundo.

Mas podes acordá-lo

Sortilégio de vida

Na palavra escrita.

Lúcidos? São poucos.

Mas se farão milhares

Se à lucidez dos poucos

Te juntares.

Raros? Teus preclaros amigos.

E tu mesmo, raro.

Se nas coisas que digo

Acreditares.

Emmenez-moi

The Beguiled

“The Beguiled” is an atmospheric thriller from acclaimed writer/director Sofia Coppola. The story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.

Nancy Willard - Questions My Son Asked Me, Answers I Never Gave Him

1. Do gorillas have birthdays?
Yes. Like the rainbow, they happen.
Like the air, they are not observed.

2. Do butterflies make a noise?
The wire in the butterfly’s tongue
    hums gold.
    Some men hear butterflies
    even in winter.

3. Are they part of our family?
They forgot us, who forgot how to fly.

4. Who tied my navel? Did God tie it?
God made the thread: O man, live forever!
Man made the knot: enough is enough.

5. If I drop my tooth in the telephone
    will it...

Patricia Spears Jones - What Beauty Does

My memory of a perfect scent: pine, sage, and cypress;

My friends' faith in the power of rough and winding paths

to take me up a mountain and bring me back.

Specimens plucked from that mountain's pastures:

Indian paintbrush, sego lily, ordinary wildflowers.

How I got them is a story of friendship and passion

Nancy, now a doctor, once a shy sophmore in college

Her husband Mike, the second, better one, and their obsession

with the Great Outdoors—hence an Idaho address.

Boise's Northend is...

Send In The Clowns

Dame Judi Dench sings "Send in the Clowns" from 'A Little Night Music' at the BBC Proms 2010, Sondheim's 80th Birthday Celebration.

Isn’t it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here, at last, on the ground
You in mid-air
Send in the clowns

Isn’t it bliss?
Don’t you approve?
One who keeps tearing around
One who can’t move
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns

Just when I’d stopped opening doors
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours
Making my entrance again with my usual flair
Sure of my lines
No on...

Margaret Atwood - This Is a Photograph of Me

It was taken some time ago.
At first it seems to be
a smeared
print: blurred lines and grey flecks
blended with the paper;

then, as you scan
it, you see in the left-hand corner
a thing that is like a branch: part of a tree
(balsam or spruce) emerging
and, to the right, halfway up
what ought to be a gentle
slope, a small frame house.

In the background there is a lake,
and beyond that, some low hills.

(The photograph was taken
the day after I drowned.

I am in the lake, in the center
of the...
