Popular Fiction Today. . .

It occurs to me that the popular novels the public read in the past (especially in the Victorian era) were superb: Vanity Fair, Jane Eyre, Middlemarch, Dickens, Gaskell, et al.

In our time, people read trash like Twilight & Fifty Shades Of Grey.

Have our standards really declined, or are we willingly overlooking the pulp of the past (like Fanny Burney)?
