Not Just Rockets and Robots

It’s here! It’s a handsome doorstop. It’s a formidable weapon to carry in dark alleyways. It’s the last piece of gym equipment you’ll ever need to buy… It’s the Daily Science Fiction Year One Anthology! It’s 871 pages of fiction — that’s 260 stories, including three of mine, and it’s available here. Daily Science Fiction [...]

The Next Big Thing

Fran Wilde tagged me in her Next Big Thing blog post and told me to talk about my WIP, then tag other authors and ask them to talk about their WIPs. Ten Interview Questions for The Next Big Thing 1. What is the title of your Work in Progress? Matter-Groove (still undecided if this should [...]

Putting the SUB in Submissions

Photo by Shansby, Creative Commons Well, after half a year of neglecting my short story submissions, I’m back on the wagon…er, submarine, umm…whatever. I sent out 7 short stories this week, and have already gotten my first rejection! I’d forgotten how much I’d look for any traces of personalization in those little painful notes. My [...]

A Quick Gulp of Air

Whew! Well, to say this year has been busy is an understatement! Fortunately, all the free time I can wrangle has been going towards my writing time instead of blogging, but I’ve got a free minute, so I’ll give you a quick update. First, it’s always great to know that there are people out there [...]

My Secret to Creating Well-Rounded Characters

I’ve got creating characters down to a science. Literally! Well, the science of astrology anyway… and you too can know my secret, but first you must suffer through what’s new in Nicky Draydenland! First and most importantly, after ten years of wanting one, I am now the proud owner of a sitar! It’s even more [...]

Story a Day in May!

It’s that time again…Story a Day in May. Time to face the challenge that crippled me emotionally and creatively for the better part of last year. It’ll warp my brain. It’ll make me have insanely twisted thoughts. It will turn me into a sniveling shell of a person who babbles incoherent nonsense…so pretty much my [...]

Shapeshifters Galore!

Two new stories up, and they're related even! "Winning Streak" is up at Drabblecast and "The Aubergine Wok" is up at Comets and Criminals. Go team shapeshifter! An interesting or not so interesting aside, The Aubergine Wok's title came about when I decided to use Google voice search to look up René Auberjonois on my [...]

Three New Stories Up in December

Lots of fiction published this December and lots of updates to my bibliography which had fallen shamefully out of date. "A Stitch in Space-Time", Daily Science Fiction "Nayani", Comets and Criminals "Double Rations", Kaleidotrope Magazine That makes for a total of twelve publications this year! Not too shabby. I've only got a couple of stories [...]

1000 Ebook Sales!

Well, it took six months, but I've finally surpassed 1000 ebook sales! That's pretty exciting for me, especially having gone into this with low expectations. I've got five short story collections out now, including the newest Delightfully Twisted Tales: Love and Other Filthy Habits which contains the much acclaimed "You Had Me At Rarrrgg." Acclaimed [...]

A Day Late and Several Thousand Words Short…

Happy NaNoWriMo everyone! So I'm off to bit of a slow start on my novel, but I'm super excited about it. I've put down a total of 165 words in the last couple days, but I'll catch up this weekend. The more challenges the merrier, right? Actually, this year I'm cheating with my NaNo, working [...]
