Wednesday's Monday Tidbit...

Alright! So, um, it's Wednesday and I just realized that my Monday's Tidbit never went live on Monday therefore, I'm posting it now! :D  Today's tidbit is from Crossover, the first book in The Chosen One Trilogy. Happy reading and stay safe!

“Jasper,” I whispered.  “Wake up!”
He mumbled something.  I elbowed him
“Are you alright?” he asked, his voice thick with sleep.
“Something is looking at us across the fire,” I tried to keep my voice as quiet as possible.
He shifted slightly, pretending to still be asleep.
“Dogs!” He growled as he sprang to his feet.  That was all the others needed to wake up on full alert.  Jasper flew over the fire, shifting into a tiger in midair.
Phlann was in front of me, bow and arrow ready.  Shanus already had two huge swords pulled from the scabbards on his back.
The wolves had broken into the clearing.  Jasper collided with the leader and managed to get it by the throat.  Another wolf jumped on Jasper’s back, biting the back of his neck.
I started to scream and stopped.  A black flash swooped down on top of the second wolf, pulling him off of Jasper.  The panther rolled and hissed at the wolf as they circled, eyeing each other.  Zane!
That’s when I heard the sounds behind me.  I spun around and felt Phlann move with me, his arrow already flying through the air.  There was a loud thud as the wolf fell to the ground.  Phlann shot another arrow.  This second wolf was bigger than the others.  It was the size of Dodge.  Its midnight blue eyes stared at me.
Phlann fired two more arrows into the wolf.  It seemed to laugh at us and kept on coming.
It lunged quickly, aiming for me.  Phlann pushed me back, his eyes wide as the wolf closed its jaws around his arm, crushing bone and tearing skin.
“Phlann!”  I screamed, unable to move.
“Shush, Hayden.  It’s ok.”  Jasper’s arms were tight around me.
“How is it ok?” I closed my eyes and buried my face into his chest.
That’s when I noticed we were still laying down on our blanket.  The rest of the group was looking at me, half asleep.  Except for Phlann.  He was out like a light.
I glanced at the fire.  It was still bigger than the one in my dream.
“We have to go now!”  I had never been more certain of anything in my whole life.
“Shlova, it was just a dream.”
“No.  It wasn’t.  Phlann was supposed to take first watch, right?”
Jasper nodded.
“But he’s sleeping.  In the dream, the fire is a little lower than this.  They are coming.  You get the first one.  Zane rips one off your back.  He’s a panther, right?”
They all looked at me.
“No one told me he was like you!  Now tell me I’m wrong and that he doesn’t shift into a panther!”
Zane ran to my saddle and threw it on Dodge.  “Phlann!  Wake up!  You good for nothing toddler!”
“Hey?  What’s going on?”  He saw the looks on everyone’s faces.  “I fell asleep!  What happened?”
“Nothing yet,” growled Jasper.  “Let’s go!”

Monday's Tidbit

Holy tumoly! It's Monday again!  I have to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who went and got their free books and those who helped spread the word. You all made this weekend a phenomenal one. :)
For this week's tidbit, I thought I'd do an excerpt from Chael's Luck.  Chael is up for Best YA Cover of 2012 on Goodreads right now, so if you have a minute, go show it some love HERE.
Have a great week, everyone, and stay safe!
:)  Mireille

“Sir Chael.”
I jumped at the voice behind me.  The princess giggled.
“Princess Katheryn.”  I bowed to her and acknowledged her parents before offering my arm.  She looped hers through mine and we walked until we reached the large doors that led into the great hall.  The knights at the doors stood at attention and saluted the king.  General Krane’s voice boomed over all of the conversations in progress.
“Ladies and gentlemen! His Majesty, King Galahad, Queen Margaret, and Princess Katheryn who is accompanied by our newest Shadow Knight, Sir Chael.”
I spotted my father and couldn’t help but smile at the pride he was obviously feeling.  My uncle and aunt stood by his side.  Princess Katheryn gave a small tug on my arm and smiled up at me.  What in the world had made her want me to win?  Of all the knights she could have wanted to escort her, there were many that were more suitable.  Knights were supposed to be tall, thick, and strong.  Though I was about three inches taller than her, I was a good half a foot shorter than the next shortest knight in my group.  And thick?  I’d never be mistaken for thick.  I had inherited my mother’s slight bone structure and couldn’t put on an ounce of muscle had I thrown logs twenty hours a day.
I followed the king to the head table, pulled out the princess’ chair, and sat beside her.  I looked to the table where Harry, Hal, Mac, and the rest of the newly appointed knights sat.  I noticed Caleb was absent.
“Do you know what happened to Caleb, your majesty?”
The princess nodded.  “My father dismissed him from the knighthood.  He is no longer welcome here at the castle.”  She took a sip of her wine.  “It was decided he did not possess the honor needed to be of service on this guard.”
I tried to feel a bit of sympathy toward the man that had made it his life’s ambition to make my life hell, but couldn’t.  I took a drink of my ale and took a deep breath to savor the aromas of the feast being put down in front of us.  I spent most of the time answering questions for the princess, from anything to do with my childhood adventures to what I planned to do in the future.
“Well, I plan on staying on as a knight.”  I frowned, not sure what she was trying to say.
“Has your father found a match for you yet?”
I tried not to choke on the mouthful I had started to swallow.
“Um, no.  Quite frankly, I haven’t really thought of the possibility of taking on a, uh, wife.”
“Surely you plan on having a son to carry on the family tradition.”
This time I pretended to choke so I could excuse myself.  I could feel her gaze on my back as I went out for some fresh air.  I heard the band strike up the first song and the sound of dancers moving along to the music.
“Are you alright?”  Katheryn’s small hand touched my arm.
I smiled.  “I am.  I’m not one to enjoy being in a room filled with people.  I’m mostly comfortable off in the woods on the back of my horse.”
She grinned and moved closer.  “I thought maybe I was the one making you uncomfortable.”
I took a step back and found myself pressed against the railing.
She frowned.  “Do you find me attractive, Chael?”
I felt the blood rise into my face.  “Of course, your majesty.”
Her frown relaxed.  “Can you explain to me then, why it is you look ready to jump over this railing even though you know you’re two stories up?”
“Your majesty?”
“Katheryn.”  She took another step closer.  I tried to look relaxed as her knee touched mine and she placed her hand on my waist.
“I want you to kiss me, Chael.”
“Katheryn?”
“I’m asking you to kiss me.”
“But…”
“I could order you to do it.”
I looked around, hoping to see another person so I could use that as an excuse not to.  “Princess…”
“Katheryn.”
“Katheryn.”  I gazed into her dark eyes and forced myself to forget everything that was racing through my mind.  “You are a beautiful, independent, and obviously strong willed woman…”  I grinned as she tried to hide the smile the complement brought to her lips.  “I just…”
“You’re wondering why you?”
“I’m not the only one wondering.”
“You’re a man of honor, Chael.  You’ve spend years proving yourself.  You’re brave, skilled, and you care about your fellow knights.”  She smiled.  “There are many women who have watched and are interested, Chael.  You just don’t seem to notice.”  She laughed at my frown.  “Some women want big, strong men.  I prefer mine to have brains over brawn.  Honor trumps muscles any day in my books.”  She stood on her tip toes.  “Now, does that answer your question?”
Her lips brushed against mine and I nodded, held her face in my hands, and pressed my lips to hers lightly.

Monday's Tidbit

Today's Monday Tidbit is brought to you by Destiny, the third book in The Chosen One Trilogy. :D

“Do you think you can do it?” asked Steven. “I’m not sure.  Not by myself.  But I do think that if I can pool my powers with Rainen’s, Damian’s, and Marilynn’s we should be able to do it.  What I want to do is exactly what Braw wants me for.  I’ll channel all of our powers and project them then keep my fingers crossed.  Of course that means I have to get close enough to the staff without getting close enough for it to touch me because then I would be channeling its powers as well.”  I looked back and reached for Jasper’s hand.  “If that happens…”  I took a deep breath.  “It won’t happen.  If Braw gets close enough to use me, there’s only one way to make sure he can’t.” Jasper growled low in his throat.  “Don’t talk stupid, Shlova.” “Well, what am I supposed to do, Hun.  If Braw gets his hands on me, am I supposed to just let him use me to wipe you out?  I’m supposed to kill everyone I love?” “He won’t get that close.” “It’s an option we have to think about.” “No.” “Jasper…” “No.”  He let go of my hand and walked ahead of me. Dodge snorted behind me.  He’ll die before he lets you do anything of the sort. I swallowed hard.  “He’s used to being able to save me.  There’s nothing he can do against Braw.  If he gets close enough to attack Braw, then Braw is close enough to touch him with that staff.” Gina, who was usually very quiet, put a hand on my shoulder.  “But if Braw is busy separating Jasper from his tiger, then that gives you that much more time to do your thing.” I looked up at her, shocked, but knowing she had tapped into what Jasper had been thinking.  I glanced down the trail in time to see him shift and bound into the woods. “I’ll meet you guys at the campsite.”  Everyone nodded and I sprinted in the direction he had gone.  Of course, I had no chance of catching up to him.  I couldn’t keep up to him when he was a human, much less when he was a tiger. “Jasper!”  I called out into the forest, my heart beating hard from the run and my emotions.  I swallowed and tried to keep the sobs from starting.  The thought of watching him being separated overwhelmed me and I sat on a rock, trying to catch my breath.  The pain that I would feel if he weren’t around engulfed me.  I put my face in my hands and cried. “Hayden.” I looked up to see Jasper standing a few feet away, his hands in his pockets, his shoulders hunched over.  I couldn’t remember ever seeing him looking this miserable.  I ran to him and wrapped my arms around him.  He took a long shuddering breath and tilted my head so I was looking at him.  His face was dirty where he had wiped his tears away. “I can’t live without you,” he whispered.  “Do you understand?  If you go and do a foolish thing like that, I may as well die trying to stop it.”  His eyes searched my face.  “Do you remember when I told you that you brought me back to life the night you kissed me?” I nodded and closed my eyes as he wiped the tears from my face with his thumb. “If you die, my reason for living is gone.”  He crushed me to his chest and I clung to him.  “You can’t leave me.”  His voice was hoarse with emotion. I took a deep breath.  “I won’t,” I whispered. “Promise me.” “I promise I won’t leave you.”  I reached up and put my hand against his cheek then did the same with the other.  His week long stubble scratched against my palms and I smoothed it with my thumbs.  “But you don’t forget your promise.”  I cleared my throat.  “You already promised me you wouldn’t leave me.” He nodded and brushed some stray hairs away from my face.  “I did.  And I won’t.”   I pulled him down to me and kissed him hard.  It was one of those kisses that held every emotion in the book.  Jasper’s lips answered mine.  We were both breathing hard and my head started to spin.  He moved the kiss along my jaw line then down to my collar bone.  He pulled me close and held me against him, his face pressed against my neck. “Don’t ever talk like that again,” he whispered.

Monday's Tidbit

So it's been almost a month since I've put anything new on the blog.  *gasp* I know.  I feel like I'm neglecting my baby.  So I've decided I'll be doing a weekly thing called Monday's Tidbit where readers can get a glimpse at existing and non-published novels I have written or am working on.
Since the last book to be released with the fourth and final volume of Angered Seasons, I thought I'd put up a tidbit from the first volume which is currently free everywhere you can get ebooks at the moment.
For those of you who have no idea what this serial novel is about, it follows a group of friends after they find themselves in a zombie apocalypse.  The twist to this story is what has brought on this end of the world catastrophe. :D
     Enjoy!

“I thought you might want a beer.”  Lane handed me a bottle and took a sip of his.  “How are you feeling?”
I took a sip of my beer and closed my eyes as the bubbles rolled down my throat.  “I’m going to make some nachos.  Do you want some?”  I looked at the floor, scared he’s say no.  Nachos was an after bar tradition.

“You didn’t answer my question.”

“I’m ok.  A bit rattled.  Christ, I got jumped by a woman with glowing yellow eyes.  Then you ran over two guys!  Not to mention everything before that…”  I headed to the oven and pulled out the cookie sheet so I could make some nachos.

Lane watched as I put everything on the sheet and placed it in the oven to melt.  I looked at him sadly and asked the one question I was scared to ask.

“Why are you here?”

He frowned.

“I mean, Michelle’s going to tear you a new one when you get back.  Why were you driving around?”

“When we got to her place, I turned the TV on.  They were reporting on the news about the gang attacks.  I just… I got worried cause I hadn’t driven you home and I know you like to walk when you’re upset.  I phoned the bar, but Haley said you’d left just after I had.  I phoned the house, but there was no answer.  You didn’t answer your cell…  She yelled at me to stay, but I couldn’t.  I had to make sure you were ok.”

I smiled.  “Well, I’m glad you did.”

He ran a hand through his dark hair.  “Me, too.”

Heat washed over my face as I opened the oven to check on the nachos.  Lane set out the pot holders and watched as I set them down.  By the time I’d gotten some sweats and a tank top on, they were cool enough to eat.  I noticed Lane had changed into a green t-shirt and the same old black sweat shorts he always wore to bed.  He caught my glance and shrugged.

“I told her if she couldn’t handle my best friend being a girl that I couldn’t date her.”

“But at the bar…”

“I’m sorry.  I was… frustrated.  Can I stay?”

I tried to hide my grin as I raised an eyebrow at him.  “You realize your name’s on the mortgage too, right?  I can’t really kick you out if you don’t feel like going.”

“I’m just saying, what I said to you was out of line.  It’s always been me and you and if others can’t get it, then it’s their loss.  I’m not willing to give you up because some twenty-two year old can’t handle the sight of another woman walking around my house.  I’m sorry, Gabby.”

I got up and hugged him tightly.  “I’m sorry, too.”

“For what?”

“Punching your girlfriend.”  I gazed up into his dark blue eyes and my mind flew back to the scene in the bar.  Michelle screaming at me that he talked about me in his sleep, the terrified look on his face when I’d questioned him.  My heart started to beat faster in my chest.  What would he do if I stretched up and kissed him?  And then what?  Did I love him?  Of course.  He’d been a constant in my life for ages.  Would taking things past the friend level ruin the great thing we had?  “Lane?”

He frowned at my whisper.

“What she said in the bar…”

The deep blue irises slid behind a curtain of dark lashes and he took a deep breath.

A muffled scream made its way through the walls of the house and interrupted our moment.  Both of us went to the window and looked out.  Nothing.  Lane turned on the TV while I closed the blinds.

“… again, we repeat.  Authorities are urging people to stay indoors and to keep their doors locked.  What was thought to be gang related assaults are now believed to be something else entirely.”

The picture cut to a scene in some city’s downtown area.  Two men were being beaten and killed on a street corner.  The reporter, a tall, blond fellow stood in view, his horror plain.  The five men and two women who had been beating the other two turned towards him as one.  The reporter said something that wasn’t picked up by the mike he’d dropped on the ground.  Whoever was in charge of the camera dropped it and the reporter’s feet could be seen scrambling again.  The yellow eyed gang advanced with amazing speed and a blood curdling scream ripped through the TV’s speakers.

The screen cut back to the reporter at the station who was staring, dazed, back at us, his face devoid of blood.

“Thomas?  Tom?  Can you hear us?”  He stared past the camera.  “Phone 911 and get someone over there!  What the fuck is happening?”

I shivered as the newsman had a breakdown in front of millions of viewers.  “What station is this?”

Lane hit the info button.  “FOX.”

“So it’s not just here?”  My heart was starting to pound its way out of my chest.

The reporter was being led off of the set and was replaced by a slightly calmer woman.  She looked at her notes, took a deep breath, and looked at the camera.

“Though government and medical officials are denying any involvement, suggestions have been made this could be some sort of pandemic infection…”

I tuned out.  “Pandemic?  As in worldwide?”

“This is like one of those real shitty zombie movies you like to watch.”

I rubbed my hands over my face.  “They’re not shitty.  And besides, they didn’t say we were getting taken over by zombies.”  I got up.  “I’m getting dressed.  I feel weird wearing my pajamas after watching that.”

After checking to make sure the bandaids were all still holding on, I put on a pair of blue jeans and a dark green tank top then tied my hair up in a ponytail.  Lane was already in jeans and one of our company t-shirts.  Something ticked against the window and the sound repeated itself.

“Is that…”

Lane nodded and brushed the blinds aside to make sure.  “Rain.”

I flicked channels until I stopped on the Weather Network.

“What’s it say?”

“Plus ten.”

“Mother Nature knows it’s the middle of January, right?”

I forgot about the weather as a car alarm went off.  “You can laugh at me if you want, but I’m going to get the guns.”

The book has been selling despite the fact that it hasn't been advertised very well and for that I am flattered.
I've decided that I need to do a giveaway

What's Going On!

Holy crap!  Are you guys aware that it's been two months since I blogged?  Haha! Oops.  I'm going to blame this one on my temporary alter ego, Meaka.  She was fun and loads of it.  The problem I had was that while trying to start a novel for her, keep working on my Mireille novels and try to network for both of us, well... I just didn't have the time.

So here's what I've decided to do.  I've
