how big of a place are you looking to get? under 2k in manhattan is hard to find i think if you want more than a 1 bedroom, depending on the neighborhood. i hate williamsburg.

I am all about living like a college student in my 30s! I did the 2 bedroom house with the dyson vacuum & all that & I hated it. We never had savings. Eventually we sold everything and started over. We had a double studio last year that was 500 sq ft and I think we could go much smaller if it was well designed. These kind of things are pretty cute and they seem common enough:

Of course we just got into this artist loft community after being wait listed for 8 months so now I am totally spoiled with 25 ft ceilings. I guess I’ll just enjoy them while I still have them and figure that it’s just a Portland thing. I’m worried I am totally a hipster asshole and I deserve to live in williamsburg like some kind of punishment or something. I guess we all have our neurotic logic about certain things.

New York doesn't love me but sometimes I like to pretend we're dating

So it’s down to the last round of interviews and I will probably know if we are moving to New York this summer in the next couple of weeks. A serious look at the NYC housing market has begun and it’s pretty easy to obsess. I mean we have a ridiculous rent controlled artist loft in the middle of downtown right now so I know we’ll be cutting back a bunch and I’m cool with that.

things to consider:

Must be under 40 min commute to Chelsea
Something 2k a month or less please
Gotta be ok with the little dog
Would we consider living with roommates? I kinda like my space these days but maybe for the right situation
Is Williamsburg overrated? Like jesus I think it might be cheaper to just get a reasonable little studio with a loft bed in Manhattan, how much am I gonna want to hang out in Brooklyn anyway? Are those my people?
Should we use a broker? Do people still use brokers to find apartments?
Do I store my cool stuff at my mom’s, sell it off or drag it across the country? Note to self: mid century modern furniture costs 3x as much out there

Anybody got any connections out there? Give me a holler!

Thanks Boo, my TV remote was totally not in enough pieces.

Baby has been very project oriented lately. The best was the orange and avocado she pilfered from the grocery bag I left on the kitchen floor and carried upstairs to hide in my laundry.

Streets of Laredo – “Girlfriend”

Pairs Well With…Justin Townes Earle, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, The Lumineers

Alt country from NYC always seems to always have a grittier disposition than the Nashville crowd, nicely shown with upstart folk rock band Streets of Laredo.  With orchestral flair, Streets of Laredo honors their Americana roots, but there is a yearning here to be a balls-out rock band.  They hold back smartly – about half of the tunes on the band’s debut double-EP (I guess that’s a thing now) are gentle folk numbers, allowing the rambunctious side to shine brighter such as on key single “Girlfriend”.  No matter the direction, Streets of Laredo have a nice touch, minimally constructing pop-based folk songs in a manner not unlike last year’s breakout The Lumineers.

New York Doesn’t Love You

New York Doesn’t Love You:
Are you okay? Is New York getting to you? Are things not going according to plan? Stop whining. For fuck’s sake. The p…

San Francisco & Oakland broke my heart. Portland has been a disarmingly affectionate rebound. So why do we gotta go and keep taking New York’s calls huh? We should know better.

I will probably know if we’re moving for THE big JOB by the end of the month.

I started doing a 600 word a day thing. It’s been pretty good when I stick to it. It adds up over a month.

I do 750 a day, no exceptions. Making the commitment has really upped my productivity. Sometimes getting it done takes all day, though. Hardest day was when I had a vomiting bug and I was just laying on my side, stomach aching, tapping out my words in between long stretches of dozing. But I fucking did it.

You bad ass!
