Snow Day!

We’ve got a snow day here! Ice day, actually. Texas doesn’t get nice, fluffy snow. We get thunder-sleet storms that drop inches of ice on the roads. Cold weather people laugh at us for how everything shuts down when we get one of these storms, but trust me: You don’t want a Texan driving on ice.

So, I’m sitting here on the sofa with my best bud beside me, Mom on the other end, and B in his office working (when you work from home, there are no snow days.) Even Hoo is inside in his indoor crate....

The Way You Look Tonight

While shifting some things around at my mom’s house, I found the cd B & I played at our wedding. I popped it in the car today, and though Thor howled at Etta James’At Last vocals, like Hoo howls at police sirens, I had a great time listening. The boy was dropped off at school before Etta had finished, so I got to listen to the rest by myself.

We’re coming up on our 10th anniversary. The really nice thing is that if you’d asked me in December of 2003, what I thought December of 2013 would look...

#GivingTuesday. Get it!

We’ve had Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so now it’s time for Giving Tuesday. This is actually a thing! And it’s a thing I can support wholeheartedly.

What is #GivingTuesday? From their website:

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. This year help us create #GivingTuesday. A new day for giving back. On Tuesday December 3, 2013, global charities, families, businesses, community centers, students and more will come together to create #GivingTuesday.

It’s a simple idea. Ju...

Buy a Book, Boost a Senior Citizen!

Every year, I do a special holiday shopping guide of my favorite things. This year, I’m doing it a little differently. I am only hawking one item because ALL the proceeds from the sale will go DIRECTLY to helping Senior Citizens through The Senior Source.

For the month of December, I am donating all royalties from eBook sales of TIARA TROUBLE to The Senior Source. That’s $2.09 going to help the elderly out of each sale of the $2.99 eBook.

My grandparents were all of significant importance to me...

Happy Gobbles

Along with all the usual gratitude, I have a LOT to be thankful for this year, not the least of which is my mother’s improving health. It’s really funny how even just out of surgery, her color already looked better than it had in months. I am very thankful for the team at her hospital, her doctors, her surgeon, and everyone involved in her recovery.

I am also thankful for Cozy Cat Press, and all the readers of TIARA TROUBLE, who have made it such a success. You have no idea how much I apprecia...

This House is Not a Home

I never liked this house.

We moved from a pretty little Colonial, open floor plan, 2-story, on a wooded, water lot in Virginia, to an ugly, ranch style (gold and brown carpet throughout, and terrible, terrible wallpaper that is still here),1-story off a drainage ditch in Texas. Granted, we could have moved into a castle, and I would have sulked. I loved our house in VA, water rats and all (because I wasn’t old enough to be bothered by rats that were as big as our Shih Tzu.)

My first impression...

I Am A Terrible Nurse

This isn’t the ideal setup, but I found out how to connect the keyboard from my iPad to my Android phone, and I now have the ability to blog. There was no way I could have typed out a blog entry with my thumbs. This small thing alone has brightened my dulling mood.

You see, I am a terrible nurse. I am not a care giver by nature. Oh, I’ll help you, but I will be resentful and hurried about it. I think a lot of that is because I am afraid of hurting someone worse, and if I don’t touch them, I ca...

Banner Day!

It is a banner day all around! The best news is that my mother is being released from the hospital today, having had a successful surgery, and excellent recovery. She’ll be back to top form in no time.

The other good news is that I sold the romance novel! I can’t share too much right now, other than the title, PLAYING ALL THE ANGLES, but I am thrilled. I’d had word from the publisher several weeks ago, that I should have an answer within the week, but hadn’t heard back from them. Yesterday, sl...

I just sent my mother back to surgery, and am sitting in ...

I just sent my mother back to surgery, and am sitting in a terribly uncomfortable chair in a waiting room, waiting. The good news is that I have a fully charged iPad, a bluetooth keyboard, and there is free coffee. It’s funny how much hospitals have changed since I was a candy striper. It’s funny how much technology has changed since then. In 1985, the only waiting room entertainment you got was an old National Geographic, and me. I think the chairs were more comfortable, though.

For now, I’m...

Guest Post: Destinee Faith Miller recaps the Top 5 Finalists of Miss Universe 2013

Valarie thought it would be fun to hear what Destinee Faith Miller had to say about the Miss Universe 2013 pageant, and I agreed. However, after trying to “interview” her about it, I found myself getting into a truly crazy-making philosophical argument with her about feminism and body image. You try arguing with an imaginary person you invented out of your own head. No interview. Instead, here is a nice little blog entry where Destinee gives you the run down on the Top 5 finalists of the comp...
