Plotting Princess Kelly Lee Reveals Battle Heat! The fire is on...
Hi, Kelly and welcome to Handbags, Books, Whatever...Congratulations on Battle Heat! Love the title. Love the cover!
First of all, thanks so much for having me on your blog! I'm so honored to be here. And to everyone else – Happy Friday! I'm celebrating for a couple of reasons today.
1. I'm in Miami, FL getting ready for an awards ceremony tomorrow. My debut novel, Murdering Eve, won the 2011 Readers Favorite award, and I'm here to party down for the weekend,&2. Today is opening day of the final installment of the Twilight Saga movies – Breaking Dawn, Part 2.
Okay, seriously. I realize there are two hugely opposing camps on the whole Twilight phenomenon, but whether you love it or hate it – you gotta be happy that the last movie is being released. Either you've been waiting with bated breath for the return of Jacob, Bella, and Edward to the silver screen, or you're just really darn happy it will all be over. J
I'll leave you guessing as to which camp I sit for the YA vampire genre, but will tell you that I am a devout lover of Urban Fantasy and paranormal romance. If you're anything like me, but you enjoy something a little on darker side, I want to tell you about my new release – Battle Heat.
It's the 2nd book in the Four Realms Series, and it's chock full of funny, sarcastic dialogue, action, suspense, and some seriously steamy love scenes!
If you read Murdering Eve, the first book in the series, then you already know our love-to-hate-her female assassin named Holly. Well, she's in a heap of trouble now…
Here's a taste:
Holly Okeanos is alone. Descended of a defeated race whose adult males were either killed or imprisoned, she is the daughter of the last Titan royalty left alive since the Great War. Thousands of years have passed, but Holly refuses to fear the Gods who conquered them, a warrior to her core. Now a prisoner to the God of War, she is torn between loyalty to her race and the overpowering attraction she feels toward the fearsome man who led the bloody battles that destroyed them all.
If you're hankering for a little more, visit my website to read the full first chapter at www.kellyleefiction.com, or head straight on over to Amazon at this link Battle Heat - Amazon for an even bigger excerpt posted in the "Click to look inside" option!
Not into fantasy or paranormal, but you're digging the looks of my cover and want access to a regular feed of hot-to-trot Man Candy? Well, you're in luck. Subscribe to my blog feed at www.kellyleefiction.com/blog or "like" my facebook page, and you'll get a regular, weekly installment of my latest Man Candy Friday post. I like to start every weekend off with a nice little dose of male hotness!

Blog: Vicki Batman-Why Can't we Go on Forever?
Discovering Reading Magic
Many years ago, I'd browsed my local Half Price Books and picked up a book to read: Maeve Binchy's Light a Penny Candle.
I'd seen the movie, Circle of Friends, with Chris O'Donnell and Minnie Driver, and loved it. But HPB didn't have a copy of that one for sale. Instead, I picked up Light a Penny Candle, read the back cover blurb, and said, yeah, I could read this. The book was pretty hefty, too, but not intimidated. Since I'd devoured Gone With the Wind several times, I knew I could whiz through this one.
I went to a conference with Handsome and hadn't had much opportunity to read. When time to leave, we were standing outside of the resort's entryway, waiting for the airport shuttle. I had the tome cradled in my arm. A woman--obviously, a book lover--leaned over and said, "You'll love this book. It's a three hankie one."
Three hankie? Oh, dear. Was it too girly and weepy?
On the plane, I began the book and quickly, became engrossed. I found it to be thoroughly engaging. I totally immersed myself in the characters' lives, and when over, did need a tissue. That's rare.
Ms. Binchy passed away recently at age 72. Most of her books are mainly based on small towns in Ireland and London. She wrote sixteen novels and short stories. Light a Penny Candle was published in 1982 and became a bestseller. A Week in Winter will be published this year. From Mail Online, I found she sold 40 million books and loved champagne. (Me, too!)
Goodbye, Ms. Binchy. And thanks for a lot of great reads.
Maeve Binchy
Have you read an author who passed and really miss reading their work? Who would it be?
Vicki Batman is cradling a newly popped diet Coke and studying her latest work in progress, a holiday story, with no title. Blog: Vicki Batman-It's all SPARKLY!
Handbag Mania - Enid Collins
Several years ago, an Enid Collins bag caught my eye when I was sick and tired of the department store offerings of garbage bags, and I had to have it. Because…
My confession: I ADORE handbags.
Yeah, most of you probably know that. LOL.
I know, I know, most women are into shoes. I would be except I have small feet--7 narrow--and shoes are hard to fit. And I have a bum right ankle; so heels are out.
But handbags... Sigh. I can put one over my arm, around my wrist, under my arm, or over my shoulder and am one happy camper.
So I began to explore eBay. (Uh-oh, you say, not eBay. We'll never see you again, VB. LOL.) I bid on an Enid linen and leather tote, entitled Cable Car (it's on the far right in the photo) and sat back and waited. Imagine me when I won!
Cool! Let's do that again. So I found a box bag--Pavan--and won it!
Cool! Now, I am a collector. And am obsessed. Suddenly, in every antique store, I find an Enid bag I have to have. One clutch I found came from a mall. It had been manufactured by the Tandy Corporation after they bought Enid Collins. Here's a photo of all my treasures:
So my collection grew. I still check on eBay and ETSY. And found more fun...an Enid pin! Now, I have three. See what you think:
So what's your obsession--shoes, bags, pins, books, vintage postcards, kaleidoscopes, Viewmasters (oops, more of VB's collections). Share yours!
With a newly popped diet Coke by her computer screen, Vicki Batman is about ready to click on the eBay button and shop some more. Find her at: http://vickibatman.blogspot.com Or at: http://plottingprincesses.blogspot.com Her latest is "Store Wars," a hilarious romantic short story: http://museituppublishing.com .

TAG-You're at the Next Big Thing Blog
Ten Interview Questions for The Next Big Thing:
What is the working title of your book? Just finished "Twinkle Lights."
Where did the idea come from for the book? I love to write Christmas stories and said I'm going to write one about Christmas trees. So I did!
What genre does your book fall under? Short contemporary romance
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? I'm clueless!!!
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? A do-gooder teams up with a delinquent turned lawyer to run a Christmas tree stand; only when the revenue goes missing, fingers are pointed.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? Three months? Some stories almost write themselves; others…hard work. And then, there's all the rewrites.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? As far as mine go, the funny stories of Store Wars and Man Theory and Other Stories.
Who or What inspired you to write this book? No one in particular inspired me. I just did it.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? The sassy dialogue and humor.

Chocolate Blog Hop!
Secret Indulgence
I adore chocolate. Peanut M&Ms are my all time favorite. And I like the large Hershey drops, too. I won't turn down the fancy brands. Love chocolate combined with nuts, caramel. Pretty much anything, except for bacon (Yeah, it's a no-no; trust me on this).
Extensive research on Wikipedia told me: chocolate comes from the fermented, roasted, and ground beans of the Theobroma cacao, the cacao or cocoa tree.
The Pre-Columbian peoples of the Americas drank chocolate in a wide variety of forms, mixing in vanilla, maize, chili pepper or achiote. Using recipes handed down the generations, Mexicans incorporate chocolate into many of their meals, not using it simply as an ingredient for confections.
The Europeans sweetened and fattened it by adding refined sugar and milk. In the 19th century, John Cadbury developed an emulsification process to make solid chocolate creating the modern chocolate bar. Although cocoa is originally from the Americas, today Western Africa produces almost two-thirds of the world's cocoa, with Côte d'Ivoire growing almost half of it.
I always knew chocolate was special. There is no good reason not to eat it; just not to overeat it. Chocolate fills a craving nothing else will.
When I sell a story, I grab a girlfriend or Handsome and go to our favorite custard spot. (Yeah, it's worth the hour drive to spoon bites of this delicacy.)
And thank goodness for Sam's Club where I buy the large Hershey nugget assorted chocolate bag. (I have to stash it in the pantry so I don't over indulge on the toffee bits!)
I realize some of you are more salty-inclined. My men consume vast quantities of Cheeze-its and chips.
But not me. Maybe it's a girl thing. <VBG>
So time to share! What's your secret treat? Chocolate? Ice Cream? Bubble bath? Book?
Vicki Batman reluctantly shares her chocolate with anyone. Find her at: http://vickibatman.blogspot.com OR at: http://plottingprincesses.blogspot.com.
