It's My Second Anniversary as a Romance Author!

Two years ago today, I became a published romance author! It's amazing to think two years has gone by already, AND it's amazing to think it's only been two years! In that time, I've published nine novels, and I have three more scheduled to release this year. It's been an incredibly fun and fortunate time for me, and it all started with one book: Hearts in Darkness, which along with me is celebrating its second anniversary. I want to thank everyone who's accompanied me on this journey: readers, author friends, bloggers, editors, and more. It's been all the more special for sharing it with you.

Thanks for reading!

Welcome Guest Author Milly Taiden #WolfProtector

Welcome Guest AuthorMilly Taidento the Blog!
See below for her giveaway!
I'm turning over the blog today to Milly Taiden who's celebrating a new release! Read on...

What’s in a name?
I love writing books but I have to admit I’m a little OCD with names and titles. They have to be perfect and fit the characters or I can’t write. Yeah, you read that right. I can’t write. Not only that, but I end up frustrated if the name doesn’t fit.  For my super smexy Wolf Protector the names of all my characters came to me easily. Trent Buchanan I pictured the minute my mind conjured a sexy alpha male with an ego the size of Alaska. Then there was Erica Villa. A feisty Latina who grew up without a family. Her name came to me in pieces. The first one was easy but her last name came when I passed a coworker’s desk and focused on her last name. I said that’s it! LOL Erica was good to go. Tony Ramirez, Latin heartthrob and a pain in the butt was another that just came to me. Jane Donovan was my anti plain Jane. She’s gorgeous, fiery and she kicks ass. And then there’s Brock. The leader of the FPU calls them all by their last names. But I never mention his first name. There’s a good reason for that. He’s not particularly fond of it and so he prefers to use his last name. Erica knows what it is, but she keeps it to herself.  Names are very important when I write because I need to feel the connection with the character in order to tell their story well. I like to find a name that fits the character. I like strong sounding names that are also appealing to me. I hate names that throw me off.
A woman with a secret…

The Federal Paranormal Unit is an elite squad of supernaturals dedicated to solving missing persons cases. Erica’s gift allows her a special connection with the crime, but it comes at a deep personal cost… Until now, she’s kept her gift a secret, even from the other members of the team. But this case will throw her together with Agent Trent Buchanan. He’s the object of her secret desires, but he’s also a cocky womanizer. She’d rather swim in shark-infested waters with a paper cut than admit she has feelings for him.

 A man with one desire…

Wolf Shifter Trent wants Erica more than he’s ever wanted any woman. He’s spent years patiently waiting for her to admit that she wants him too. Working one-on-one in a race to find a serial killer, Trent’s patience and Erica’s resolve wear thin. When Trent discovers the truth about Erica, will he accept her for who she is? And can he protect her from the horrors that her gift brings?

A case that pushes them to the edge…

Erica will have to risk it all if she wants to stop the killer, and when she does, Trent may have to put his own life on the line to make sure his mate is protected…

Excerpt:
“Brock, he’s doing it again!” Erica glared at the Casanova walking beside her, hating how good he looked in his black T-shirt and ass-hugging jeans. Trent Buchanan. He was her daily temptation and ultimate fantasy. And she’d rather wax her nipples in public than admit it to him. Butterflies swarmed her stomach, twisting and twirling her into one giant, aroused mess.
“What’s Buchanan done this time, Villa?” Brock, their team leader, asked without looking up from the papers on his desk.
“He’s staring at me.” She growled and dropped in one of the empty chairs, huffing out a breath.
Buchanan, The Bastard, as she liked to refer to his cute ass, grinned at her. His full, sexy lips caught her immediate attention. “Excuse me, I can’t help it if it’s a beautiful day, and I’m glad it’s Friday. You’re a grump, Villa.”
It was so unfair that she had to keep pushing him away when her body wanted to curl around his big frame. But if she ever did that she’d turn into another Trent groupie, and that was not her thing. She’d seen the other women in the department walk after him, ogling and almost drooling, as if he were the lead singer in a rock band. Pathetic.
Buchanan folded his arms over his massive chest. Erica’s entire body throbbed every time she looked at him. She drank in the inciting vision and argued with her lust for dominance. Disgusted with her body’s responses, she glared at him again. Her eyes strayed to the scar on his upper lip. She gulped and curled her fingers into her palms, digging her nails deep. Whenever she glanced at the tiny scar, she wanted to nibble and run her tongue over it. It was driving her insane. Thankfully he couldn’t read her mind, or he’d be having a hell of a time making fun of her tough talk.
“Villa, just look at me.” He opened his muscled arms wide and did a full circle for her. Once he was facing her again, he leaned on the wall. He winked at her. “If you didn’t have a stick the size of Texas up your ass, you’d realize what a catch I am.”

Welcome Guest Author Robin Covington #HisSouthernTemptation #Playlist

Welcome Guest AuthorRobin Covingtonto the Blog!
See below for her giveaway!

I'm thrilled to welcome my friend Robin Covington to the blog today to celebrate her newest release, His Southern Temptation. I'm handing the blog over to Robin, so read on...
His Southern Temptation Playlist…get lucky with the music that inspired the book.
Laura – thanks so much for having me here today.  I don’t know about you but I always write a book with a particular playlist loaded on to my iPod. Now, I’m a self-described “music slut” with 5511 songs on my player so I have tons to choose from when it comes down to setting my story to a tune.
My playlist for contains 19 songs and while they all fit the theme and the characters there were a few that immediately took me “there” whenever I turned them on. If I needed to quickly get in the head of either Lucky or Taylor, these were the songs that transported me to the place in my head and heart where they live. So, here you go:
Mama’s Broken Heart by Miranda Lambert: The lyrics of this song are what got me into Taylor’s head.  When she talks about screaming until the barflies and the Baptists knew her heartbreak and the response of her mother to basically suck it up and save face – that is Taylor in a 3 minute nutshellSkinny Dipping by Whitney Duncan:  This song about stripping it ALL off under the water with that special someone actually inspired an entire scene and took me back to growing up in a small southern town, sweet southern boys and moonlit swims. (oooh la la!)Drunk on You by Luke Bryan:  “Girl you make my speakers go boom boom”.  Lucky would have totally sung that line to Taylor . . . it had to go on the playlist.I Love You by the Eli Young Band:  This songs talks about how each person finds what they are supposed to do with their life – it might be building houses, farming, writing a book – but the songwriter knows his purpose is to love this one girl. That is what Lucky realizes in this book and it was the foundation of his character for me.My Kinda Party by Jason Aldean:  A party out by the lake with all the Boys and a bunch of hot girls?  Of course!  Wine after Whiskey by Carrie Underwood:  Taylor had the best with Lucky and nothing else will ever live up to that.  No one else will carry the burn and fire of him for her but she fights it all the way.Heaven by Jake Owen: I knew that Lucky had “that” special place- his heaven on earth – and Taylor would be the first woman he ever took there. This song fits that moment perfectly.Want To by Sugarland: If Lucky and Taylor have a theme song – this is it. This book is all about their moment to choose, their moment to decide if they take that step towards happiness together or give it up for good. As the lyrics say, “We could keep things just the same/ Leave here the way we came with nothing to lose
But I don't want to, if you don't want to.”
Some women are bad. Some women are a bad idea. The best ones are both…

A former Black Ops assassin, “Lucky” Landon has had more near-misses than a man should ever have. Now he’s out of that business and settling into the simple life in his small hometown. So the last thing he ever expected was to end up at gunpoint. Or that the woman holding the gun would be his best friend’s little sister and Lucky’s on-again/off-again lover.

Taylor Elliott is Trouble, and she likes it that way. And seeing Lucky again? Well, he’s been her dirty little secret for the past few years and everyone knows that secrets in a small town are almost impossible to keep. But Taylor has bigger problems on her plate. Like the local mob boss who wants her dead.

And right now the only thing standing between Trouble and disaster is a hottie named Lucky…

Excerpt [adult]:
He relaxed his stance enough for her to brush his abdomen with the back of her hand. His T-shirt was warm, soft, and clinging to the hard muscle underneath. He stiffened at her touch, his jaw tightening into a firm edge, eyes narrowed to slits of darkest blue in the dim light. She could almost hear the voice in his head rehearsing the million reasons why he was going to tell her no.
Taylor took a half-step closer, now able to fully explore the breadth of his chest with both hands. Lucky’s breath hitched when her fingernail grazed his nipple and she almost took pity on him when his heartbeat kicked up another notch. She was faring no better, this proximity was making her hands shake and the heat gathering in her belly was consuming her. Leaning up on tiptoe, she traced the line of his neck with her lips—not quite kissing, but enough pressure to leave goose bumps in her wake.
“Stay with me.” Now, she tasted him, punctuating her request with a small bite just below his ear followed by a moist kiss to soothe the burn. He tasted so good—male, spicy and accented by the tang of sweat. Her mouth watered as she mindlessly made her way to his mouth, unable to resist having more of what she’d sampled earlier on the parlor floor.
His lips were supple and open for her. Warm, wet mouth, tongue like velvet as it tangled with hers. The arousal from their earlier encounter was only a banked fire, never fully extinguished and now it flared back to life, making her burn. Her knees gave out and Taylor bunched his shirt in one hand, the other one hooking into the waistband of his jeans to keep from sliding down to the ground. One touch of his hard body and she couldn’t resist exploring further, her fingers dipping down to trace the rigid length of his cock through the soft denim. He was hot, filling her palm with the weight of his desire.
The duffle bag hit the floor with a thud, freeing Lucky to weave his fingers in her hair, tugging gently to tilt her head at an angle to align their mouths better for a deeper, wetter kiss. This one was dark, filled with need and years of lust as he forcefully controlled the depth and pressure of the kiss—his passion taking it to the sharp edge of total possession.
She whimpered, the sound echoing off the walls and matching the trembling in her body as she threw herself into this moment with the man who’d haunted her dreams for half her life.

Welcome Guest Author Afton Locke! #Historical #Erotic

Welcome Guest AuthorAfton Locketo the blog!
See below for her giveaway!
Today, I'm welcoming my fellow Maryland Romance Writers Afton Locke to the blog to talk about her new release, Rose, Exposed. She also has a giveaway and a fun post on romance in Maryland. So read on...
Thank you for hosting me today. I’m excited to discuss why Maryland is romantic and to introduce my recent release, Rose, Exposed, a multicultural historical erotic romance set in the 1930s.
This post is part of the official Rose, Exposed Blog Tour (3/26 - 4/09).        The grand prize for the tour is vintage-style rose earrings for pierced ears (U.S. shipping address only).
To be eligible, COMMENT on this post. Comment should include the historical time period and geographical setting (when and where) you’d most like to see in a romance. The tour winner will be announced on my website on April 11th.
Why Maryland is Romantic
No matter how far my travels take me, I’ll always call Maryland home. I was lucky enough to spend my teenage years living by the Chesapeake Bay. Spring brought a multitude of flowers and birds. Summer brought bay breezes, the hum of boat engines, and the rustle of leaves from big shade trees. Here, my desire to be a romance writer was born as I explored the creativity of painting, writing, and romance.
It’s not surprising that I’d use a setting that had such an impact on me for my latest release, Rose, Exposed. Write what you know, everyone says, but this wasn’t a conscious decision. Hit by the economy, I couldn’t afford to take my usual week-long trip to a new place, so I went to Solomons Island for a day trip. Inspiration struck without warning and a book series was born.
Why is Maryland romantic?
It’s a small state with a lot of diverse scenery, ranging from mountains to big city to seashore. Books with a variety of settings and storylines could be set there. The history, spanning several centuries, is long and colorful. Solomons Island in the 1930s had steamers, similar to Mississippi riverboats, that traveled to Baltimore. Roads were so undeveloped people even commuted to work in boats.Rugged, handsome men, such as watermen and hikers, abound.Like the Deep South, it has abundant greenery, waterfront, and humidity. Those hazy, lazy summer days are perfect for dreaming, and my favorite sight is draping green vines forming arches across roadways.South of the Mason Dixon line, Maryland is part of the South, so it has some of the same values -- just not as intense.Since I have more books planned for this series, I need to take my digital camera to Maryland for a big photo session. Because I grew up there, I guess I took it for granted and didn’t take the pictures I do now when I visit new places. In fact, when I created the video for my new release, I came up a little short and had to use some pictures of Louisiana. (Shh, don’t tell anyone!)
Although Maryland may not be as popular a setting for romance novels as some other states, it should be. For now, I’ll keep writing about this hidden gem.

Video/trailer (I love creating trailers for all my books!)
When Leroy Johnson gets promoted at the new oyster plant on Pearl Point, all he cares about is working hard. When he meets the flirtatious artist Rose Wainwright, however, nothing matters except getting her to the altar and into bed. Healing from a recent loss, he’s not about to let her go too.
Because Rose’s strict, social-climbing father doesn’t approve of dark-skinned Leroy, they court in secret anyplace they can find. Although Leroy’s raw passion can convince her to do almost anything, why can’t he understand she needs freedom, not marriage?

Her father wants her to be white, but Leroy wants her to be black. Playing both sides of the fence leaves this young biracial beauty exposed in more ways than one.
Excerpt (explicit) Rose, Exposed - Copyright © AFTON LOCKE, 2013 - All Rights Reserved, Ellora's Cave Publishing, Inc.
“You’re so…dark,” she exclaimed. Instead of the disdain he expected, he heard fascination.
Come on, lady. Don’t tell me you’ve never seen a colored man before.
“Yes, I’m dark,” he agreed as he politely removed her hand, “which is why it’s not a good idea for us to sit alone together in this car. Someone might come along and jump to the wrong conclusion.”
A conclusion that could get him beat up or worse with the Klan close by on Oyster Island.
But before he could stop her, she clasped both sides of his face and pressed her sweet mouth to his. Aw, hell. A man only had so much self-control, and she’d just shattered his. Unable to stop himself, he plundered her delicate mouth. Her lips reminded him of rose petals, and he sucked the sweetness out of them as if he were a bee. The more he tasted, the more he wanted.
She opened, giving him access to her even sweeter tongue. His penis strained, hard and now wet, against his undershorts. Hell, even his balls must be twice their normal size. Taking a big breath, he pulled away from her.
“We can’t do this. You’re white.”
She looked down at her upturned palms. “Then I really do look white?”
Leroy frowned. “Aren’t you?”
For the first time, her smile disappeared, making him shiver in his wet clothes. “The truth is, I don’t know what I am. I suppose that’s why I took this foolish drive.”
She must be biracial then, he realized, and not forbidden after all. The thought made him want to dance on the hood of the car. She still looked white, though. If he didn’t have the time to court a girl his own color, he sure didn’t have any for a complicated one like this.
“Kiss me again,” she demanded.
Without waiting for him to answer, she locked her hot, damp mouth on his again and tugged hard on his shoulders. Before he knew it, he was on top of her on the front seat. He wished her dress weren’t so thin when two round breasts pushed against his chest and long, slender legs shifted restlessly under his. Dizzy with the scent of rain and her, he froze.
At that moment, nothing mattered except finding out if her cunt was as sweet and yielding as her mouth. He didn’t care if the entire Klan showed up, knocked on the window and caught him thrusting between her legs on this slippery leather seat. It had been too damn long since he’d had a woman. He needed to stop this while he still could.
“Do you know what you’re asking for?” Lust had turned his voice into a husky croak.
She laughed and touched his face again. “I don’t know. What am I asking for?”
This girl was crazier than he’d first thought. What if someone less honorable than himself had stopped instead? She could’ve been raped.
“A whole lot of trouble.” He sat up. “Look, this is not the time or the place. Now let’s get you home.”
The sooner he could be rid of her—before she derailed him from his job, family, and everything else that mattered—the better.
WIPs Coming Soon for Afton Locke
Rose, Exposed is the sequel to Plucking the Pearl , an interracial historical erotic romance. I have two more books planned for the Oyster Harbor series. Next up for romance are Sadie and Henry.
In addition to interracial/multicultural historicals, I also plan to keep writing erotic contemporaries. Can an older woman find love with a hot male stripper? My current WIP, Two Hours to Entice , will answer that question.

Everyone, please leave Afton some new release love and don't forget to answer her question to enter her giveaway: what historical time period and geographical setting (when and where) would you most like to see in a romance?

Thanks for reading!
