I say hello

My first blog. Pondering over what one says in their first blog. The sun is sinking but still shining over the tops of the Redwoods in my backyard at 4:30pm on a Friday work from home day and there's cold beer in the fridge. Yet here I sit. Trying to think of one true thing to kick off this blog with a fantastical kick of literary inertia. And? I guess I'm torn between the allure of Sierra Nevada and daydreaming out in the backyard about being one of the original angel investors for LinkedIn.

Maybe a beer and then continuing this entry? Given that I'm an author, I suppose I should mention the writing here, soon. Aries at Dawn. Book for sale. Second book I ever wrote. Best of the three that I've written. Took maybe 6 months to write a first draft, and about 7 years of rewrites to deliver a final draft. A tad bit obsessive? Well, at least there are no regrets. It's as good as I could make it and now I'm on to a trilogy. Note to self, discuss the trilogy in another blog post. Ok. This is going nowhere. The beer allure has finally overcome all honest intentions of entertaining and educating you, my patient audience, so I'll close with that.

Aries at Dawn free on Amazon for one day

I've put my novel, Aries at Dawn, for sale at the low, low price of nothing on Amazon for a day. Already, hundreds of "sales" so get it while you can because at this price it won't last long. Ah, well, yes I guess it will. The beauty of bits and bytes, eh?!

Results of Free

Managed to give away 584 copies of Aries at Dawn. That probably makes 580 people who downloaded it to stockpile it for a rainy day, 2 readers who downloaded it by hitting the wrong button, and 2 readers who are probably in process reading it now. Am I too pessimistic? Or too optimistic?
Either way, it's had a wonderful effect on writing motivation for my current books. A free giveaway on Amazon is much different than when I did it on Smashwords. Amazon seems to have SO many more readers and potential readers.
I'm not really expecting much in the way of increased Sales of the Aries book, but hey, hopefully a lot more readers, maybe some reviews, etc. All in all, good experience. Even managed to move to #411 in all Amazon free books last night.

I couldn't resist - new free

After giving away so many copies of Aries at Dawn on Amazon last week, then seeing sales pick up afterwards, I decided to go ahead and do it again this week. I underestimated the enthusiasm that all these transactions would give me that I can apply to my every day writing.

It took so much effort to write this book and so much time with the 20+ rewrites over the years that anything less than outstanding sales felt like failure. That's because it's a good book; maybe not in the sense that I've established some sort of literary new frontier. But it sucks you in and keeps up a fine pace that keeps the pages turning. In fact, sometimes when I pop in to check my memory of a scene, I find myself continuing on into the story, long past that initial scene. Ah, what a self-serving sentence that last one was, eh? Sigh. Probably shouldn't blog after a long day at the office, but then restraint has never been a strength for me.

I think I'm in a similar situation to many authors out there. They've written good, compelling stuff. But unless you crack the Amazon top 100, or turn up in searches for books in your niche, it's hard to get the ball rolling. So. Free it is. Again. Hoping to get the ball rolling even more than it has.

For the next day and a half, you can get it for free at:
